Programming :: Editing Script To Create A Default Web Page?
Nov 14, 2010
The title of this post may sound like it's real easy and simple enough for a noob to do but my situation isn't noobish.I have this script that i found on the internet that i wish to edit and create a new user and set a pass word AND create a default web page in the /var/www/html directory. This is the script with my edits included. The commented out field are my own editing.....
Code: #!/bin/bash
# Script to add a user to Linux system
if [ $(id -u) -eq 0 ]; then
I came across this script a while back that i found. What i want to do is edit the script to create a default web page in /var/www/html a new user is added through the script. What the script does now is adds a user and sets a password for the user. What possible way (either through a combination of python or c or some other language) could i add to the shell script to do this? I've tried just dointhe command to touch index.html /var/www/html but it puts it on the desktop. Here's the script....
Code: #!/bin/bash # Script to add a user to Linux system
I have apache httpd server on my Fedora 10I got 2 problems:First : I copied the web page files to its Document Root <var/www/html> & Disabled the default web page. But when I visit http:/localhost ,it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you). So I want to know did I miss something to set up a web server in this kind of situation
I would like to create perl script that take the default value instead of waiting for me to enter the enter. I have running script that make key for vpn and when I run the script it will start creating key and then ask me questions like what is your country[:us] what is your state name[:nj] ......
so every time I just have to enter cause I need to enter only default values. So is there any way that I can create script that just take me directly to the end without waiting for me to enter anything and taking by default values.
wanted to know if i can execute commands on linux console through a web page and redirect it back to my web page !For example :if i send a query "ls"it should execute this command on my linux console and also redirect the list of the files to the web page from which i give the command !
Have searched for this and am sure the answer is out there somewhere, but I can't find it. My wired network is configured as AUTO, and is DHCP, I can add a new static config, but can't get it to load, as the original AUTO always loads on a reboot. I need to be able to run sudo Network manager so I can reconfigure the default..
I am a new Ubuntu user, and I am attempting to set Windows 7 64 bit as my default OS in the boot loader instead of Ubuntu 10.10. I have entered the command gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst into terminal, and the menu.lst file does open. However, this file appears to be completely blank, which does not seem to make sense and is preventing me from changing the boot order.
I installed Windows XP Pro and RedHat Linux Enterprise 5 on my PC for my purpose. The PC is used by other family members too and they need only Windows OS for browsing. It is becoming problem for them to reboot after the PC enters into Linux by default. I am still learning Linux and I want to edit the /boot/grub.conf file to make Windows as default OS to boot. The following is the content of my grub.conf file (FYI):
I have set up a LAN/WLAN, DDNS server, DCHP server, and a proxy/NAT server using Debian/GNU. Now I would like to redirect the host web browser to a welcome web page so the users of my network can read the terms of use and accept them before having access to the internet. Could some one help me to achieve this?
When you first access Nagios, it displays the Home page (the Nagios Core version and check for updates page). I would like to have a way to change the default page to either the Tactical Overview display or the Services display. This question was asked here, but not answered
Is there a way to create a Seperate X Server on openSUSE 11.2 without editing the xorg.conf file? I red on this forum that should not be used any longer.
I have apache installed and I have it all setup so that when I create a user, in their home directory i created a folder called public_html and then that user can upload web content. Users then can browse to their site by going to[URL],,.How can I get apache to show a different or default page if the user does not have a index.html file in their public_html folder. Cause if they dont, you get a 401 saying you dont have permissions to view, etc. So id like apache to default to something else if the user doesnt have a index.html.
Ubuntu's keyserver page just brings back a default it works page. Is there a way to manually search or enter keys here, since this page seems to not have been completed? Doesn't look like this page will be completed either last edit date on this page is Tue 06 Oct 2009 05:49:36 AM CDT

I check multible times but I got always just a big red EM. What's to enter at 'named tag' and at 'to bugs'?
I am using apache web server for my website. I have the main page up and I want to create another page. For example, I want to have "thisiswhatiwant" being the page I want to add
but ive two problems. 1st: The first is how do i change the default page on load up of localhost.eg when i enter the http://localhost/ i get the usual it works symbol.this is because its loading the index.html file in my var/www/ folder.i dont want too create another index file, but how do i change the configuration too load up a different one like home.html2nd: i tried installing sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin and for the most part it worked.but nothign comes up when i go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/
I am now using CentOS5 as the server providing Apache services. I have managed to setup the web page under /home/user1/public_html, now I wish to change the default web page of our server to /home/user1/public_html. i tried to modify httpd.conf, in which i changed the "/var/www/" to the above user directory, but didnot work. Please kindly suggest.
I've got a perl script which generates an html file. What I'd really like to do is send people to just one page (the perl page) which then generates the html and shows the html page in question. Thus the whole transition will be invisible to the user, they'll just have an html page.FYI the perl script generates a list of the users who last logged in to the system, it needs to be up to date (by the second).Let me know if this isn't clear, I understand it sounds a bit confusing...
In my logs for Apache I have lots and lots of failed attempts for incorrect incarnations of [URL]. None of them are anywhere near my alias for the index.php but yet phpmyadmin is broken. Is there away I can mess up robots like this. Send IP's that create multiple wrong page requests on my server back to their own IP address maybe? I would then just set thresholds to decide how strict to be. I did try fail-to-ban before but it is cryptic. I don't have it on this particular server.
I have an security cam with a built-in webpage inside my home network. That camera is using basic HTTP authentication instead of SSL. I want to be able to access the camera's webpage from outside my network, but I don't want to open an unencrypted video stream to the outside world. Right now, I'm doing some cumbersome ssh tunneling where I bounce off an ssh server like: ssh -N -L 9090:[URl]..and then I connect to my web page like: http://localhost:9090
But this is a pain. Now, gentle reader, I beseech you to tell me how I can use linux (Ubuntu) to get a fully encrypted SSL connection to my internal web page without the hassle of creating an ssh tunnel each time. I believe I can use stunnel, but I'm not sure of the command.
I'm working with a dual-boot laptop running Ubuntu 10.0/Windows 7 and a Debian 5 VPS while the OS's shouldn't have much impact on my question.
What I would like to do is create a html page that I can upload to my VPS which lists all of the files/folders on my local 2TB hard drive (Specifically media such as Movies, Music, TV Shows...). The media obviously will not reside on the server, but I would like to at least have a list which will allow me to select, for instance, a bands artist so that it redirects me to the albums in the directory below.
Ultimately, I'm looking for Open Directory Browsing without actually having the media on my server. I have been attempting to create something to this effect using lynx, however, I'm not sure if it can be done with this command or if it's even possible for that matter.
I am trying to increase the font size in the evolution xml file to make the sub-menu easier to read (the menu with new, send/receive, reply, reply to all, forward) I found where the xml file is located but i can not seem to adjust the font. is there a different syntax for xml for changing font than html/css?
