But when I visit http:/localhost ，it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. Query : I've my blog at /var/www with Apache installed and it works fine when i give the IP address of eth0 (Not 127.0.0.1). The last week, I have been getting a "page Load Error" on my web server whilst others told me they are getting a "broken link" error when they try to access my web site. It has been working fine for the last 12 months until last week.
ADSL, modem and router okay according to service provider (verizon)
I can ping my IP address and my domain name.
# netstat -tap
shows http and https both processes running.
# service httpd restart
no issues
I shut down firewall and tried again, but got the same "page load error".

System I am currently running an HP Pavillion laptop 500G HD, 6G RAM, dual boot Fedora 10 and Vista.
Questions: How should I partition HD to allow functionality of LAMP and to later transfer to a online webserver.
I have read several different rational on partitioning the disk. Do I really need a /tmp, /var? Currently I have / /boot, /swap, /home, /usr. Is this okay to start? Will it make transferring the project more difficult for "official use?
Should I not use the laptop at all and create a separate machine for this purpose only?

I came across this script a while back that i found. What i want to do is edit the script to create a default web page in /var/www/html a new user is added through the script.What the script does now is adds a user and sets a password for the user. What possible way (either through a combination of python or c or some other language) could i add to the shell script to do this? I've tried just dointhe command to touch index.html /var/www/html but it puts it on the desktop. Here's the script....

I've got a perl script which generates an html file. What I'd really like to do is send people to just one page (the perl page) which then generates the html and shows the html page in question. Thus the whole transition will be invisible to the user, they'll just have an html page.FYI the perl script generates a list of the users who last logged in to the system, it needs to be up to date (by the second).Let me know if this isn't clear, I understand it sounds a bit confusing...

My ISP provided me with a static IP and I went and bought a domain name with godaddy.com. The issue I'm having now is that I am getting a 403 forbidden error (You don't have permission to access / on this server). The strange part is that when I ssh into my server, and try to go to my website, everything works fine

None of them are anywhere near my alias for the index.php but yet phpmyadmin is broken. Is there away I can mess up robots like this. Send IP's that create multiple wrong page requests on my server back to their own IP address maybe? I would then just set thresholds to decide how strict to be. I did try fail-to-ban before but it is cryptic. I don't have it on this particular server.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently put a new install of Ubuntu 10.04 Server on an old dell I had sitting around the house with the intention of using it as an all purpose server machine (website, teamspeak, ftp, storage, etc.). I am running apache2 for the web server and want to use vsftpd to edit the website contents through FTP. The issue I am running into is that vsftp doesn't have permissions to write /var/www/ which is the default website directory. The flip-side issue is that apache2 doesn't have permission to access the /home/user/ directory which vsftp has permissions to write.
Because I am only interested in running a single website (no virtual machines/no extra IPs) fixing either apache2 permission or vsftpd permissions would fix the problem.Changing DocumentRoot to /home/user/ will make apache2 point to the new directory but I get a 403 error. I have no idea how to change application permissions.I need to use to give permissions for vsftp to write /var/www/ (vsftpd.conf is configured to allow write in home directory) OR the command I need to give permissions for apache2 to access /home/user/? I assume it is a chmod command but I have never used this and don't know what the permission codes (777, etc.) do in terms of giving me the necessary andsufficient app permissions. I don't want to give the app. too much access and risk creating some security flaw.Here are my vsftpd.conf, default (website config file) and apache2.conf.apache2.conf

I have forwarded all necessary port to to the local ip of that box, added rules to ufw to allow traffic on those specific ports. I use dyndns for a second level domain and have used all their tools to check whether the ports are open and have the results I am looking for.
