I need to compile a program and make it portable to other computers, but it needs some external libraries and I don't want them to be linked dynamically, I would like to compile them as one single executable or at least compile them in the same directory as the main output files. The program is sphinx>, it has its own configure and make scripts. I know I can run g++ with the -static flag, but I don't know how to do this with make or configure. This is the ./configure --help output
I am trying to recompile a large open source project with the Nvidia Cuda Compiler: 'nvcc' [URL].. nvcc supports all the compile flags that gcc does but not all of the linking options. This shouldn't be a problem however as nvcc generates object files that are compatible with gcc and I should hence be able to compile with nvcc and then link with gcc (linking against the CUDA library).
To compile with nvcc I use: ./configure CC=nvcc
Which successfully creates make files that se nvcc to compile. But the Configuration script does not seem to honor LD=gcc in the same way, ie: ./configure CC=nvcc LD=gcc still tries to link everything with nvcc which promptly fails because nvcc does not support the option '-soname' without which the project will not link correctly. What am I doing wrong? How can tell the config script to link with gcc?

I did a ./configure and make and got this returned about 1/2 hr later:

The libidata.so.42 is there in that folder. I guess the file might be in a big endian. Is there a way to check if the libidata.so.42 i have might be a big endian format, rather than little endian?

I'm setting up a home webserver with Ubuntu 10.10 and want to configure the interface to static. I'm using a router, which is setup and working correctly. I have been using linux workstation with dhcp for some time.
I've edited my interfaces file to reflect the parameters for setting static ip, with the exception of 'network'. No matter what I put into this setting, it causes me to loose connectivity to the outside world. I've tried to put my router IP, and my IP set by my provider. What should the 'network' value be?

I am currently using transmisson on ubuntu 9.10 however want to switch over to Utorrent using wine to get more options as rss feeds etc.. I will still use transmission some aswell.

Coming fresh out of a newly installed 10.4, I obviously was able to get network connectivity but then I ran into trouble the minute that I tried to change eth0/eth1 connections via network-manager's applet. What I found was, that when I attempted to define static connections, all bets were off. It seems that once one attempts to change eth0/eth1 which are wired devices, I was no longer able to recover my network connectivity!
I was however able to setup a wireless connection, so in this way I was able to get back network (and Internet) connectivity, and write this thread on this forum. I notice also, that there is no longer 'Networks' in the System->Administration menus! Geez, what the hell is going on? how to properly configure my static wired connection? Networks in 10.4 have really changed alot!

i have followed multiple guides to make my home server use a static ip address. no matter what i do it always reverts back to its dhcp address after about 2 minutes. how do i get the static ip address to stick, or be permanant.
I don't use wireless tools myself currently, since I'm wired to the internet; but, I found that a package I wanted to build, required at the least, a shared version of libiw, if not both the shared AND static version.
