View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently due to partitioning and a power failure Ive had to now copy all my backup movies etc. back onto ubuntu as they are corrupted. At the moment the thumbnails of the movies are the generic orange media image and when I replace it with the backup movie, across to ubuntu and refresh the browser, the thumbnail stays the same i.e. it doesn't show a small screen cap of the movie. Is there a way to 'refresh' them properly as it were? I am running Ubuntu 10.10.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing a problem with viewing 1080p movies. The frames get stuck and don't refresh, so I am left with a single image while the sound plays on fine. I find that this only occurs with high resolution movies, but I am curious as to where the problem lies and if I can fix this at all. Here are my computer's specs and configurations:
I am using Ubuntu 10.10 (didn't want to get 11.04) with 2GB or ram and 972.6MB of swap (I need to increase that to 4GB, I think? Correct me if I am wrong). I am using a Toshiba u400 Satellite which comes with a Intel X3100 Integrated Graphics chipset (don't really know the strength of this set up) and has two 1.73 GHz processors. The only thing that is within my power to change is the swap allocation. When I start the movie and bring up the System Monitor, VLC takes up almost the entire CPU usage.
This morning I was looking around and went to the display settings and such. And I noticed refresh rate was at 75Hz. I changed it to 85Hz and the screen went black. I tryed to reboot but after I got passed the Login the screen went black again. Now I want to change it back to 75Hz because the monitor wont allow it.
How do I change it back to 75Hz from the login screen?
First off I am dual booting Windows 7. While in Win7 I have absolutely NO monitor issues. Since installing 10.04 I get a shaky unreadable display. To remedy the situation temporarily I have adjusted the resolution to 1200/800 but this is not a fix just a band aid. I should be able to run 1920/1080. As soon as I do this I get the shaky screen. I cannot change the refresh rate from 60 mhz. Again I am apprehensive by posting this because I have been flamed in other forums simply for being a noob and not knowing what to do but I would love to tap into the resources of you more experienced members.

i can't change my refresh rates(i want to change ir from 75 to 85 KHZwhich are the only options) as each time i change 85 in KDE from system settings works until i restart X then it goes to the previous setting which is 75.my xorg.conf looks like this code...
I have just set up a high available San with 2 nodes which run on debian 7.
Replication and high disponibility works fine but i have some problem with iscsi.
I have create on 2 windows server 2012 1 iscsi iniator on each, my problem is when i create a file or a directory on one server, I have to put the hard drive offline then online and the change appear but it's not really useful.
So i would like to know if there is a way to automatically do this.
I just upgraded from a 1280x1024 17" to a 1920x1200 24".However, at 1920x1200, I do not have an option to change the refresh rate to anything but 60Hz, but Id like to run 70 or 75Hz.My monitor is an Asus PA246Q. Digital Signal Frequency : 30~83 KHz(H)/ 50~76 Hz(V).I am running Debian 6.Video card is an ATI Radeon 4850/1GB, and I am using the fglrx driver.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to enable a non standad vertical refresh rate of my crt in squeeze/gnome under the radeon driver, which does work under lenny and fglrx out of the box without any additional manual configuration. I already tried adding the VertRefresh option to xorg.conf under the Monitor Section, but that didn't worked out so far. One strange thing is that if i look into the Xorg log file i can see a line which sais as if the driver can see the possible refresh rates, but still in gnome i cant set those refresh rates to be active
# /var/log/Xorg.0.log|less
(II) RADEON(0): Ranges: V min: 50 V max: 160 Hz, H min: 30 H max: 85 kHz, PixClock max 180 MHz
These are probably only the rates which my crt can handle, but still im unable to set 1024x768x100Hz because the max i get is 85Hz for that resolution.
I just got a CRT monitor today, used of course, and plugged it in, pleased with many things. However, the screen is blinking subtly as a result of low refresh rate. This monitor is supposed to be 1024x768 @87 hz and 1280x1024 @66hz (here are the specs [URL]. I only get the following from Xrandr:
Code: Select allfoo@debian:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
1024x768 60.0*
800x600 60.3 56.2
848x480 60.0
640x480 59.9
Is there anyway I can get my desired resolution? I can't find the xorg.config which I read about.
I use the integrated graphics card from intel -- Intel GMA3100.
At console mode, I set the resolution to 1024x768 through vga=ask.
But the refresh rate is too low at 60hz, and my eyes are uncomfortable.
I tried fbset utility, but it doesn't work on my machine. (There is no response)
increase the refresh rate to 75hz?
When I start yast2 it seems to hang at around 50% (the lower progress bar) while refreshing the repositories. It can sit there for a minute before moving on. Once yast2 has started and I add / remove repos the refresh happens very quickly. It's only when starting that it gets stuck.
This is something that really only started after I upgraded to 11.2. In 11.1 the progress bar would move cross quickly and you could see the various repos flashing up above the progress bar. I didn't bother with it too much but it's starting to annoy me now. It also sometimes just hangs there permanently and I have to abort it.
I've tried unconditionally updating the yast stuff but it hasn't helped. My network connection is fine and I have now problems or speed issues with browsing the repo urls from a browser.
When i install openSUSE 11.3, reboot the system, and then yast stay in automatic configuration. It take a long time to download some packages, and it seems that it has no response already. How would i skip this step?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE last night thinking I'd give it a try after once using Ubuntu for a couple months and giving up on Windows completely. When I used Windows and Ubuntu I never had much trouble setting the resolution or refresh rates and ran my monitor at 1280x960 72Hz, openSUSE will let me select 1280x960, but the only refresh rate I can select is 60Hz...I've tried the default Nvidia driver that installed with the OS and I tried the one from the website, it's a Geforce FX 5200, is there some way to force the refresh rate to what I want it to be?

The monitor is Hanns-G HH251 (25", 1920x1080@60 max) I cannot make either "Display Settings" or "ATI Configuration" to show the refresh rate of 60 Hz as available. When I change the resolution to 1440x900 then I can pick 60 (but obviously I don't want that resolution). However, if I pick 1920x1080, the only two refresh rates available are 25 and 30 Hz, causing the image to flicker and whatnot.
I updated my laptop to Ubuntu 10.04 and among the many problems I've had is this strange one with Thunderbird 3. It will not refresh it's window. That is, it loads, and some of the panes (such as the one on the bottom right that shows the selected message) remain blank.
The work around I found is to grab the title bar and move the window. That will force a refresh, but it is terribly annoying to write a message and not see the words until I stop and move the window a hair.
This behavior happens when the Appearance settings (System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual effect) are set to "Normal" or "Extra". Under "none" Thunderbird behaves normally, but everything else looks terrible!
I'm guessing this is a Compiz problem; has anyone else seen this happen? more importantly, how do I fix it? and all other programs work fine under all appearance settings.
Just got a spare computer running ubuntu. The monitor it has atm has a problem where the screen goes crazy, the colours flicker and there are lines all over. I'm pretty sure its the refresh rate as the monitor can only support 55hz and 60hz. However, Xserver wont allow me to go below 75hz.Specs (very low I know ;D)nVidia 7600GS
