Fedora :: Setting Authentication Details For A Samba Printer In F15?
Jun 8, 2011I've been trying to set up my printer that I'm sharing through a desktop running Windows 7 and am having trouble getting the authentication details to stay saved, or even work, for that matter.
No matter whether or not I tell the New Printer program to remember my authentication details, it doesn't. If I tell it to prompt me if it needs details, I get no prompt. So, in order for me to print a document, I have to tell it to print, then go into the print queue and authenticate it from there.
1. IIs there a way, either manually or through GUI, to either save my authentication details or just have it prompt me upon printing to save me from going into the print queue?
2. This isn't exactly on-topic, but it came up while I tried to set up the printer. Has anyone else had their SMB URI come up incorrectly with the spaces incorrectly rendered as "20" instead of "%20:?

Jun 1, 2011I got a workstation with openSuse 10.3 pre-installed. After I did the Online Update from YaST2 and rebooted the machine as requested by YaST2, the system came to fail starting up an X session.

It never lets me input a new password. Two questions:1) Am I doing something wrong, or is this actually a bug? The possibility has been mentioned in other posts on the topic.2) Where does PackageKit store its files? I'll either change the password myself or delete the file where it's written, hopefully that will trigger PackageKit to ask again.

May 7, 2011On this moment i configure a testenvironment with 1 Microsoft active directory server and 1 Opensuse 11 samba filesharing server. But i have a issue. The samba server is add to the domain and the servers can communicate with eachother. I can login to the domain on the samba server and the LDAP settings tab on yast2 samba configuration tool tell me that samba and the MS LDAP server can communicate with eachother. I can see the shares on the samba server but i can't autenticate myself. When i whant to logon than see i always "domain: domainname.local" and "access denied". My question is now how can i give the MS administrator account rights to view the shares and configure the rights for the other users.Samba config file

Aug 16, 2010So far I've been able to get Samba to connect to the my WORKGROUP and I can see my Vista PC as well as my 3 hdd's but when I try and open the folder, any folder, C$; D$; or E$ I'm confronted with a user name and
password prompt. No user name or password combination that's associated with either machine, openSUSE or Vista will grant me access. Why am I seeing this prompt and what I would really like to know is can it be
disabled all together? Otherwise, what user name and password does Suse want? Do I need to tell Suse in a terminal a user name and password?

I attempted to upgrade from the software.opensuse.org website with samba-3.60-10.1.i586.rpm. I get a message: Nothing provides cifs-utils needed by samba-client-3.60-10.1.i586.rpm. So I could not upgrade. There are other upgrades on the site but they are not available for some reason. What is an appropriate upgrade? Is upgrading the solution? If not then what?

Apr 26, 2011i'm trying to add windows print drivers to smb for them to be automatically downloaded to the client upon printer installation. I've followed the samba.org Printing documents which have been helpful to some degree. I have an HP printer and i'd like to just upload and register the .inf,.dll.cab files that the manufacture cd comes with for the client to use the .inf file to install the drivers from that location but i keep getting Werr_invalid_PARAM

I have three Suse Linux pcs on my network.
I'll call them desktop, media center and laptop.
I am logged in to my desktop , I want to open a new session and log in to my media center.
From GUI, I select application launcher - leave -switch user and get a fresh kdm greeter screen.
On the Greeter screen, I select Menu - Remote Login
A window opens displaying three machines - my desktop, my laptop and my media center.
When I move the mouse into the new window to select the media center as the new target machine, the window immediately closes.
I have Xdmcp access enabled in kdmrc on all three systems(and rebooted).
This did work fine back when I was on KDE45 and KDE46.
Is there a new permission or setting now under KDE47?

Sep 7, 2010I'm trying to set my openSUSE desktop up to use the printers on my office network via Samba. I managed to get it working in 11.2 but 11.3 is giving me some trouble.I am able to access the printers and use them but I have to enter my network credentials each time I print. In 11.2 I was able to "save" my username/password and was not required to do this. Are there any Samba packages I need to add in addition to the basic ones? There seems to be a lack of documentation on this particular subject, most is concerning Windows clients printing on Linux print servers.

Mar 29, 2010My first post here. I've been using Ubuntu to run our internal mail server for a while now on Ubuntu server 9.04 and ISPconfig 2. I've read a lot of threads on poeple that have difficulty connecting to their server using SSH from outside the LAN and it is not the same problem I have. Well, not entirely the same.
My problem is that my authentication fails from outside the LAn, but I can connect to the SSH port from outside my LAN. The other threads pointed towards checking the router port forwarding etc, but I can see my SSH log in asking for my username and password. So, at this stage I know the port forwarding worked, otherwise I wouldn't even see the log in prompt.
Has anyone see this before where you can connect, but the authentication fails? I can use the correct username and password from inside the LAN, but using the same credentials from outside fails.

Sep 16, 2010One I cant figure out is a problem of authentication. I'm using open ldap server and try to authenticate a groupware (simple groupware) against it. As it fails, I tested with a ldap client to understand things better. Using GQ ldap client, I 'm able to browse my ldap tree successfully and to search some args from the base DN i specified. but when entering the exact uid as a search string iI got no answer whereas searching the cn returns the correct entry (and display its related entry including the uid I can't find ..) Here is the only thing I can trace in logs (syslog) when trying to seach firstname.lastname (= uid)

Sep 9, 2010I recently upgraded my video card from a GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8X to a GeForce FX 5500 AGP 8X. After that my 1360x768 monitor was stuck on a 1024x768 resolution. I ran system-config-display and under Hardware tab I changed the monitor setting from "Generic LCD Screen" to "1360x768 LCD Screen" with the acknowledgment that /etc/X11/xorg.conf file was been modified. After reboot the boot process stuck on:tarting kojid: Kerberos authentication failed. "Resource temporary unavailable" (11) [FAILED]I tried that with both 2.6.34.6-54 and 2.6.34.6-47 kernels available on my system.I use the latest KDE version available for Fedora.

Feb 6, 2010I'm trying to connect to my Xubuntu box (zelda) remotely using my RSA key. I'm using Cygwin on my Windows box (link) to SSH in to the Xubuntu box. I've created the key and placed it in the authorized_keys file on my remote box. Here's where it gets weird. When I ssh into zelda the first time, it prompts me for my password. However, if I'm already connected to zelda and try to open another connection, it prompts me for my RSA passphrase. This is very confusing, and I have no idea what's going on.Here's my sshd_config file on zelda.

Ubuntu :: Users And Groups Authentication Fails
Jun 13, 2010I recently tried installing a new version of VirtualBox PUEL version, after uninstalling an earlier version. But the major issue I have now is that I can no longer modify my User Settings. Clicking on the "Autnenticate" icon gets me a failure notice: "System policy prevents modifying the system configuration", with details reading "Action: org.freedesktop.systemtoolsbackends.set". Hovering over this link says to click on the link to edit the file, but nothing happens. Searching the file system tells me this file does not exist. Prior to this episode with VirtualBox, I had no trouble modifying Users and Groups. I was able to remove a group from the command line, but the cannot get the GUI authorization to work. I have searched the forums and bugs for similar problems, and, although there appear to be a number of similar issues, no where can I find any clear information on how this system is supposed to work, or what I need to do to correct the problem.

Security :: Setting Up Server With IPSec Authentication
Aug 6, 2010As part of the project I'm working on, I need to set up a server with IPSec authentication only connections to a large number of low bandwidth clients. I'm making use of the PF_KEY interface to populate the keys on the server and while prototyping things I've found that the initial setup is taking longer than I had expected. At the start of my test, entries are being added to the database at a rate of around 30/second, but as time goes on this is dropping significantly. I ran a test up to around 100k entries and by then the rate had dropped to 10/second. It's key to me that if I reboot my server that the Security Associations can be repopulated in a very short period, so I do genuinely need this to be much faster.
Two questions:
1) Does anyone have any experience of running with a large number of SAs set up, and if so what sort of setup rate did you get?
2) Are there things I can do to speed up the provisioning of these SAs? I'd really like to see a rate in the thousands per second.
We've been doing the prototyping on the 2.6 kernel.
Server :: Setting F13 With 389 Directory Service For Authentication
Jun 28, 2010I am setting up Fedora-13 with "389 directory server" for authentication. I had performed the following steps.
1. Install FD-13.
2. Yum install 389-ds.
3. Run script to configure.
4. Start 389-condole and create few group and user for testing.
I can see these user with "ldapsearch" and with "phpldapadmin". It looks my server is responding. However, I am unable to see any user name with "getent passwd". also "ssh server_user@server" is not able to login. Whereas "getent passwd" shows local user and "ssh local_user@server" is able to login. Also note that I am not using ssl, so want to avoid ssl.

Slackware :: FreeNX - Authentication Works But Session Fails
Jul 21, 2010I installed freenx-0.7.3-i486-1alien.tgz on the server (with Slack 12.1), all according to instructions. I installed the no machine nxclient 3.4.0-7 on the client (with Slack 12.2). I ran setup and configured. I used the default no-machine keys, not custom ones. Since authentication failed at the beginning, I enabled DBauthentication, and added my user and password, which seemed to allow authentication to occur.

General :: Samba Not Showing Authentication Errors?
Jun 22, 2011I changed the password on my samba server and now I cannot mount the share anymore from my Windows 7 box. The logs shows no errors whatsoever about authentication, is that normal? I remember from a long time ago that I never saw samba do that and it has made troubleshooting very difficult.
I changed the password with the smbpasswd wanuser command the samba version is 3.2.5

When I crank up the log level, samba shows lots and lots of totally irrelevant messages like connected and disconnected, but not why it got disconnected. On the Windows 7 machine, I get an error that the user and password is not correct. Why does Samba not report it?

Now i'm using vmware to test my system, but the 'real' system, is a small network with around 30 workstations connected in a cisco switch + router. Server :: Possible To Use Kerberos For Samba Authentication Without A Domain?
Oct 14, 2010I have a samba server for company file shares but we do not use domain services or active directory service. Each workstation is its own standalone system. (And we want to keep it this way.) I would like to have some centralized authentication though, and it looks like Kerberos will provide that. After a lot of searching though, I can't find any instructions for setting up samba to authenticate users using kerberos without an ADS (active directory service) or domain. Is this possible?
