I am here to ask for some assistance on YAST. When trying to change the date and time through YAST, and clicking on accept, I get an error message saying "cannot save configuration". This is on openSUSE 11.3 x86_64.

Ive a little problem in xen guest machines. The hardware UTC time is grather than the insanity time (ntp doesnt works) and I cant change the date and time from yast. I can`t access the hwclock information (errno=19) unable to get /dev/rtc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI change the audio channels to 6 in alsamixer by choosing my sound card and change the channels to '6ch'. But this setting is not preserved. I see that after a reboot the channels are again going back to 2ch. I have to manually change everytime to 6ch after each reboot. Is there a way to save the setting in alsamixer so that I will get 6ch everytime after reboot? I am not sure I have explained my problem in a way so that you can understand.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just recently found I have a problem under SUSE 10.3. History, I had my PC, an IBM Power Centre box with 4g ram and 2 hard-drives (80gb and 1Tb) fail to reboot after a power drop. Got an error message about the 80gb H/D losing some information. I was able tofix the issues by using "fsck". The PC was able to restart after this, and seemed to be working well.
However in the last couple of days I noiticed that the time was incorrect, it seems the sync for time has switched to normal time too early. Right mouse click to adjust this would not bring up the "adjust time" window. ?Why, unknown. I then decided I would go through "YAST" to do my changes, but now I am unable to load "YAST". I can load it through a terminal window, but there must be some reason why it won't load the GUI? from the menu.? There could be other programs that are also not loading that I have not found.
Q- could something have been lost when I had the H/D reboot issue? And if so is there any way of restoring lost or coruputed OS files?
I have the 10.3 OS on DVD, which is how I installed it, and note that there is a recovey prompt, but need some advise on how to go about it. A total reinstall is not an option at this time until I can get a backup unit running.
My date and time is not syncing correctly. I have 2 opensuse 11.1 servers and on both when you adjust the time in yast, I go back into yast and the setting for the NTP server is not set and "manual" is checked. I tried many times and the setting keeps reverting back. I always click on Save NTP configuration.
View 2 Replies View RelatedInstalled 11.3 KDE today on an old Vaio desktop we were given (Duron 900Mhz, 512mb, 40Gb HD, SiS630 onboard video, Trinitron 15" monitor). Everything works fine except it will not save the 800x600 resolution setting. Every time I reboot it is back to 1280x1024 which it thinks is the default resolution. Any tweak to get 11.3 to save that setting?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a switch tray on my computer and I installed opensuse in one of the hard drives that I have but as I switch between the windows hard drive and opensuse the time changes all the time. For example it's 10pm right now and if I switch the hard drive to opensuse the time automatically gets adjusted 4 hours back and then I fix it and when I switch back to my windows hard drive the time goes forward 4 hours. I check both region settings and they are both set to NY Eastern time. Why is it doing this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed OpenSuse 11.2 3 months ago on my laptop. I'm running with the Gnome Desktop. I live in Chicago and am currently in London. When I set the timezone to Europe/UK the date/time are correct UNTIL I reboot the laptop. After reboot if I type in the 'date' command it shows the time at 6+ hours from London time. When I check the hardware clock 'hwclock' it displays the correct London time. I check the time setup with yast and it shows the correct Timezone but again shows the 6+ hours difference. I change the time in yast and and my applications ( e-mail) display the correct local time again... UNTIL I reboot and then I'm right back where I started - wrong local time ! I suppose I could write a little startup script to do a 'hwclock --hctosys' but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone out there had any ideas..BTW - I hate to say this but on the same laptop running XP I don't have this problem AND I didn't see this problem in OpenSuse 10.3 or 11.1

The question is simple really, I've added a local universality's time server (what is public) and it's live. but it's added to the end of the default time servers what come with fedora. How do I get fedora to just use the local time server, is it a case of removing the default time servers for fedora, but there is a box what says advanced options which are. sync system clock before starting service ???? & use Local time source (( is that the same as the local ntp server that I've got set up ))Hope some body can help me with the network time protocol part of Date/Time settings.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just know it has to be possible to let two users (since I have two kids) share the same PC at the same time using a 2nd graphic card, two displays, two keyboards, two mice. I have seen one 10 year old "how to" which just didn't seem like it would fly with today's XFree/DBUS/all USB setups.
Does anyone know how to do this? I would like each user to see a log in screen and log into a GUI desktop (it doesn't have to be KDE, but that is what we have been using). The MB and the video card use the same type of GPU. The PC has a dual core AMD, and 4 GB of RAM, so the resources should be fine for school work, KDE Educational software/games. Other than squid, there isn't particular server running on it either, so resources should not be an issue.

When I run php my_project_name/app/check.php
It says:

Fix the following mandatory requirements
* date.timezone setting must be set

I already tried to edit php.ini with command :
sudo nano /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini
I deleted ; and so under [Date] section is now following sentence: date.timezone = Europe/Helsinki
after that restarted apache /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

2.3. To Adjust the System Date or Time.
To adjust the system date or time that the Clock applet displays, perform the following steps:
1. Right-click on the applet, then choose Adjust Date & Time.
2. Type the root password, then click OK.
3. The Clock applet starts the system tool that sets the system date and time. Use the tool to adjust the date and time.
The actual way to do this is as follows:
Right-click on the date and time applet. select preferences, and down at the bottom of the window that opens push the 'time settings' button.
Then you will be able to adjust that date and time.

The purpose would be to make one-off changes to dns zone files, or to virtual host configs on an apache server, or changing any type of text file at say 12:01am rather than waking up at 12:01am (when our maintenance windows start) to make changes to production servers.
