View 9 RepliesI have a Kubuntu 10.10 install on which I can't update my packages due to some fail conflict between pidgin and pidgin-facebookchat. I can't even remove the stuff via apt-get due to this conflict...
sudo apt-get remove pidgin
Code:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:

I am using Ubuntu 9.04. After doing sudo apt-get update When I try to insatll pidgin via terminal it shows: XXX@XXX-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install pidgin Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: pidgin: Depends: libpurple0 (>= 1:2.6.0) but it is not going to be installed Depends: perl (>= 5.10.0-19ubuntu1.1) but 5.10.0-19ubuntu1 is to be installed E: Broken packages
Everything works perfect in kde 4.2 except pidgin. I have tried everything (automatic sound, with a command "aplay", esd, ...) and nothing. It sounds when i push the preview, but when i'm on a chat, or a new message its incoming, never sounds ...

Previously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error
pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type
I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.
Pidgin won't start for me any more. Upon execution from the command line, this is the output:
pidgin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/gst-0.10/gst/interfaces.so: undefined symbol: gst_stream_volume_format_get_type
I've run sudo /sbin/ldconfig, but it didn't help. I've also reinstalled pidgin and libpurple.
Just updated to KDE 4.5.1, and im having a hard time getting the tray icons to work.
For instance, i cant get the Pidgin tray icon to show. I cant get Qinternet to show either.
I was using Ubuntu and installed Opensuse 11.4. I have installed Pidgin 2.7. I copied the old .purple directory from Ubuntu into my Opensuse home directory. But now the Pidgin is not reading the data, logs and configuration from the .purple directory.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I tried to uninstall some applications, pidgin, for example, via 'Add/Remove Software', YaST told me that I have to uninstall another 200+ packages. Is this something normal? I'm new to Linux and don't want ruin the system, so I seek for another way.
I found that 'Software Manager' can also be used to uninstall the package, so I use it to uninstall pidgin. The problem is after I pressed 'Apply' button, there are so many package installing by themselves. I saw that most of them are appended with '-lang'.
I have been an OpenSuse 11.2 user since the past 8 months. Recently I had a issue with the operating system and therefore had to re-install the OS again. However, since the fresh install, I have not been able to capture any sound from my laptop's microphone. This is weird because it used to work fine with OpenSuse 11.2 before I had to re-install the same OS again. Additionally I can assure that there are no issues with the hardware since it works fine with Windows 7. I have tried almost everything, but in vain.

I have an 1TB hard drive, half of it for Windows XP SP3, another half for OpenSUSE 11.4. After installing OpenSUSE, it didn't take me much time to notice that there was something wrong with KDE: sometimes it loaded quite fast, as expected, but most of the time I'd have to wait around 1 minute in that loading screen. Then I updated the kernel, as well as KDE itself, but that didn't solve the problem.
After that I tried to start the system using Enlightnment, and it was lightning fast compared to KDE, however, I didn't quite like its interface, and for some reason GNOME refused to start. All that was too frustrating to me, so I gave up and have been using Windows for the last few weeks. Got sick of it now and here I am on OpenSUSE again. Oh, it feels sooo much better! BUT, I'm still with the same problem.
My specs are as follow:
Motherboard: Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H (with updated BIOS, version F11)
Processor: AMD Phenom X3 8450
Memory: 2GB
Videocard: Nvidia Geforce 8500GT (using NVIDIA proprietary drivers)
OpenSUSE 11.4
KDE 4.6.0
Did I forget anything important?
Ps.: I didn't have these problems with Mandriva 2010.2, which, if I'm correct, used the same KDE version.
I have installed the package "Web and LAMPP Server" with the YAST2 installation manager on my openSuse 11.1. The installation runs well without any error messages. When I try to start Apache2 in the YAST2 runlevel manager or from the command line it fails. The start problem seems to me simular as amavis configuration. I have to configure /etc/amavisd.conf before a was able to start amavis in the YAST2 runlevel manager.
How can I make Apache2 to start? Do I have to configure a special file before I am able to start Apache2 in the YAST2 runlevel manager or why doesnt Apache2 start?
How do I install Pidgin on Fedora 11? I do not find it in yum or System -> Administration -> Add/Remove Software. The Pidgin download page says they don't provide packages for Fedora 8 or later: http://www.pidgin.im/download/fedora_core/

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently began at a new company that uses google apps for domains. The problem is, there are nearly 150 employees and no centralized address book to speak of. I managed to get a list of legal names and email addresses out of the HR department, but I'd like to build my google address book as well as my pidgin buddy list.Pidgin buddy lists are in the format code...
I've tried to simply edit blist.xml, but the act of actually ADDING a buddy does more than simply stick them into your list, it actually performs a server action to do mutual authentication and stuff. So my question is: Is there a way I can run a script that will "add" all these people onto my buddy list without me having to type each email address and full name by hand?
I have found Pidgin to be very useful but I am lacking a very essential functionality of SIP based calling.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThere seems to have been a change in how you add buddies in Pidgin, since I last used Pidgin in Ubuntu. When I open the add buddy window in Pidgin I get the image attached. It allows me to "search" Personal or Ubuntu One from the drop down list, but nothing is ever populated in the main text area. Similarly, when I select a group from the drop down list in the lower right corner, it never selects it. Also when I click "New Person" it simply closes the window without ever adding a new buddy to my buddy list.
