OpenSUSE Network :: How To Start Apache2 On OpenSuse 11.1
Mar 2, 2010
I have installed the package "Web and LAMPP Server" with the YAST2 installation manager on my openSuse 11.1. The installation runs well without any error messages. When I try to start Apache2 in the YAST2 runlevel manager or from the command line it fails. The start problem seems to me simular as amavis configuration. I have to configure /etc/amavisd.conf before a was able to start amavis in the YAST2 runlevel manager.
How can I make Apache2 to start? Do I have to configure a special file before I am able to start Apache2 in the YAST2 runlevel manager or why doesnt Apache2 start?

THIS ISN'T A SCRIPTING ERROR! I'M USING PHPMYADMIN (or trying to)! People on #httpd are useless for help.
Well, ir jus installed Apache2 and PHP5 on my openSuSE 11.2 server, and I just get blank pages for PHP, but HTML works fine. Ima jus guess this is a common error.

I'm running apache2 and I installed php5 with yast. httpd2 -M states that php5 is loaded. /etc/apache2/conf.d/php5.conf is being included in httpd.conf and it contains:
Code:
<IfModule mod_php5.c>
AddHandler application/x-php .php
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php4
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php5
[Code]....
The first line was added by me since that's what mime.types actually contains.
php.ini is in /etc/php5/apache2 and since I was not sure apache/php was finding it I added a PHPIniDir "directive" into httpd.conf. I have not changed it.
Test file is the typical /srv/www/htdocs/info.php with <?php infophp(); ?>
Normal index.htm is working fine. php -a is working fine.
I spent a long afternoon around this configuration and I looked in plenty of pages for solutions. I only do occasional system administration so I might have easily overlooked something trivial, but I run out of ideas.
There is a thread in this web site with a similar problem but no solution:
Php5 not recognized in SUSE 10.2 Apache2
What could be missing/wrong if php5 is loaded and the addhandler is defined? How can I further test?

I am trying to install BackupPC on openSUSE 11.4 64 bit.BackupPC is complaining that I am not running the Apache server as user backuppc but as user with id 0 (root)I have the following in the /etc/apache2/uid.conf (which is getting read as I can put a syntax error in the file and it complains):
User backuppc
Group www
When I run either the httpd2-itk (default in rcapache2) or the plain httpd2 processes and then do a:
ps aux
The user reported as running the http processes is root NOT backuppc. On a openSUSE 11.3 machine where I have BackupPC running successfully the ps command returns backuppc as the user running the processes. Is this something others are seeing or do I have some configuration incorrect?

I am using an Acer Aspire 5536 AMD dual core laptop with a 64bit installation of Susie 11.4. Using 11.2 I had no problems connecting to the wireless router. As soon as 11.4 was installed, clean install, and the laptop rebooted, network manager failed to start, until manually invoked and then enabling networking through the system tray. Even after this it will not connect to a wired or wireless network sometimes for more than 30 minutes.

I broke my apache server. I went into the Yast administrator / HTTP Server and enabled the "rewrite" module. The server stopped working so I went back in and disabled it. Now the server still doesn't work and when I try browsing to any of the sites on it all I see is a page that says "No database selected" for any sites using databases. For static sites I get a 404 error. I broke rule #1 and didn't have back-up configuration files so now I'm stuck. What could the Yast module have done to my configuration files? I have restarted apache several times and even re-booted the computer.

I tried connect to internet through iPhone (bluetooth tether), so I followed one tutorial... It said I have to change "networkmanager" to "ifup" in yast>network settings, and make some other changes... I did it, but I couldn't connect via iphone... OK... I put back all changes, also changed ifpu to networkmanager.
After reboot, Knetowrkmanager gives me "network management disabled" on startup, instead of list of my networks.
Of course, I google for solution, but without any luck. And then, I don't know why, I killed Knetworkmanager, start it again, and.. it worked!
But now, I have to kill it, and start again always, when I reboot my laptop...(HP Compaq 6720s, BCM4312, KDE 4.3.4)

I seem to have somehow messed up my repositories and now NetworkManager isn't working.
I have two errors happening, which I'm sure are related. First of all, when I try to load knetworkmanager, I get the error:
Code:
knetworkmanager: error while loading shared libraries: libkminterminals.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Second of all, when I restart my computer, upon loading I get a message from Akondi Server Self-Test saying several databases failed. I've never seen this before, so I think fixing these errors would be best? Some of the errors are MySql failed, akondi not registered at dbus, etc.
Lastly, I don't have a wired connection so currently my machine has no internet. I'm using a second laptop to get necessary files and I transfer them with usb.

I'm configuring a computer for someone and I don't know the wireless network they will be using. (They are not technical.) I've setup networking to use NetworkManager. It works just fine. However, Knetworkmanager won't startup at boot/login. Therefore, the network doesn't startup automatically. I have to click on the icon in the menu to start it.That works well, but it should be configurable to startup automatically.I've searched this forum for answers and don't find any good ones. It seems there isn't an answer or there is a bug in KDE 4.x. (I'm using KDE 4.3.x)

I have just installed squid and sarg, both are working well. I cannot get squid to start when the machine boots. I installed webmin and configured the setup through the webmin interface where I checked the "start at boot option". I think the problem is that my network card responsible for the web connection is wireless so when squid tries to load during boot it is trying before the Wireless card is up and so it fails. I have tried multiple methods of adding a script to the "dispatcher.d" folder in "NetworkManager" to load squid after wlan0 is up but all have failed to bring up the squid proxy without my interaction. I have not found any two sites that describe the syntax for "dispatcher.d" alike so I may have the command wrong but I have no what to do.

I made a brief foray into IceWM g which I used tradition ifup" instead of KNetworkManager. I switched back to KDE and even though I have re-enabled "user controlled with network manager" KNetworkManager still doesn't run at KDE login. The connection's fine and I can start it up myself and it works. What is the best way to set it back to run at login so I'm automatically connected to the network?

My eth0 is not up everytime at boot up. I will need to <service network restart> to get it up.
I have used yast's /etc/sysconfig editor to set /etc/sysconfig/network/config -> MANDATORY_DEVICES to eth0
And I have also added <alias eth0 e1000e> to /etc/modprobe.conf.local
And also set eth0 device to activate device at boot time using Network Card Setup.
But eth0 is still not starting up at boot time. What should I do to get it up at boot time?
I'm using openSUSE 10.3. And no, I'm am unable to move to 11.2

Installed opensuse 11.4 and wireless network started automatically. Then I changed the name of the computer in YAST, and restarted. Now I cannot get NM to start automatically at boot. The red X shows up on the panel app Network Management and settings buttons do not activate the wireless device. I have to start NetworkManager from the command line. After about 30 seconds the wireless hardware symbol turns on and then I can connect to the network.

I get "unable to open file: /etc/samba/dhcp.conf" messages in /var/log/samba/log.* worked perfectly fine in 11.3. permissions are 755 on /etc/samba and all files are 644 or 600 in the directory. Starting manually gives same result. My 11.2 and 11.3 machines continue to work. this is a weird one and I don't see any posts relating to this. For other uses, the machine seems ok.

I have one machine (out of a couple dozen) that continues to refuse to allow "vncserver :1" to start. It is perfectly happy with :2 - :9 but tells me :1 is already running - yet ps tells me that there is no running
Xvnc instance.
What have I done here and how do I get that session back? I've cleared the /tmp/.X11-unix entries but that did no good. Could I have checked something in Yast that is launching an invisible session?

Since two week the knetworkmanager needs 3 minutes after login to start and connect. On an other computer (x86) it works fine. What could be the reason for this? I use opensuse 11.3 x64 and yes i need the network manager. Ifup isn't practicable for me.I have read in some thread to start the networkmanager at boot time and as root, but i don't think this is necessary.

I just upgraded my home machine to 11.2 but apache is not starting automatically. I tried deleting apache2 in YaST and reinstalling it but it still doesn't start. It doesn't appear as an icon in YaST under network services either. There's a log directory for it but no logs. There's an /etc/apache2 directory.
I haven't tried starting it manually because (a) I don't want to destroy any evidence and (b) I want it to work automatically in future.
Is there something else I should be doing? Or how to diagnose?
