Everything works perfect in kde 4.2 except pidgin. I have tried everything (automatic sound, with a command "aplay", esd, ...) and nothing. It sounds when i push the preview, but when i'm on a chat, or a new message its incoming, never sounds ...
View 1 RepliesI can't make sound work in Pidgin. I've tries every single method (aplay %s with Command, ALSA, Automatic etc.). Anyway, I once was hearing sounds, but later they've gone again. I have ALSA set up in 'System - Prefs - Sound' and also in 'Multimedia Systems Selector', Debian Testing (sid) 2.6.32-3-686. I also cannot set the tray icon to 'Blink On New Message'. When I recieve a message - I only see a smilie there, no 'blinking'.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly fresh Slack install. When I start or shutdown X, the sounds that are supposed to play do. Also, sometimes everything else that is supposed to play sounds does.
However, sometimes the sound doesn't work for flash content or pidgin. I have never had a similar problem and I don't know where to start in resolving this issue.
I have a Kubuntu 10.10 install on which I can't update my packages due to some fail conflict between pidgin and pidgin-facebookchat. I can't even remove the stuff via apt-get due to this conflict...

Previously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error
pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type
I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
after installation of pidgin 2.7.1 on 11.2 64 from suse download site it doesn't start. i had previous version 2.6 and it was ok.anyone encounter same issue?

Just updated to KDE 4.5.1, and im having a hard time getting the tray icons to work.
For instance, i cant get the Pidgin tray icon to show. I cant get Qinternet to show either.
I was using Ubuntu and installed Opensuse 11.4. I have installed Pidgin 2.7. I copied the old .purple directory from Ubuntu into my Opensuse home directory. But now the Pidgin is not reading the data, logs and configuration from the .purple directory.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I tried to uninstall some applications, pidgin, for example, via 'Add/Remove Software', YaST told me that I have to uninstall another 200+ packages. Is this something normal? I'm new to Linux and don't want ruin the system, so I seek for another way.
I found that 'Software Manager' can also be used to uninstall the package, so I use it to uninstall pidgin. The problem is after I pressed 'Apply' button, there are so many package installing by themselves. I saw that most of them are appended with '-lang'.
I have been an OpenSuse 11.2 user since the past 8 months. Recently I had a issue with the operating system and therefore had to re-install the OS again. However, since the fresh install, I have not been able to capture any sound from my laptop's microphone. This is weird because it used to work fine with OpenSuse 11.2 before I had to re-install the same OS again. Additionally I can assure that there are no issues with the hardware since it works fine with Windows 7. I have tried almost everything, but in vain.

I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.

I installed 11.3 but haven't been able to get any sound out of it. The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ45-307tx (more specs at link below) [URL] The first thing I tried was I updating the alsa firmware using the konsole command "zypper install alsa-firmware". The firmware updated fine, but still no sound. The next thing I tried was editing a file based on the advice found at the link below. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have to recreate a new version of my old thread about my laptop Lenovo Thinkpad EDGE(13) sound trouble. At this point I simply have no clue and tired of trying to fix it. Well after reboot I have no sound in movies, only mp3 has sound, and I can play them via any player. Well to make my video have sound I have to always yast>sound> and manualy setup my Azalia(HDA intel) driver "Fix DMA pointer" to "0" value and my "Use single command to communicate with codecs" to "0" value also, then everything starts to work until next reboot. I don't know why the config is reseted always. I installed new kernel even in hope that my soundcard would work properly, but nothing changed. I reported a bug even, but dunno whether it will be fixed or not, now, if I can write my sound config manually and save it so it is not reseted or anything. Or maybe I can write a script that at autostart will write the desired config for my soundcard, just anything. I'm frustrated at this point, coding as I don't know bash, so I cant do it myself, I need code so I could make a script out of it.
