I want to know if i can install programs of gnome in KDE or otherwise.Gnome have a good editor called Gedit, this program can recognize php, html... and he works using tabs, and i believe that surpasses the Kwrite.This it's one of the examples.Can i run Suse with this two desktops? In One installation?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy gnome-panel is at the left side of my screen (I use the 'splendid' cairo-dock at the bottom of my screen). But when more than eight windows are open, the dock freezes. The 'Computer' button works, as well as the tray icons. My CPU rushes to 26% constantly. Solution is to kill gnome-panel and it reappears without complaining (if few than 8 windows open).

I am relearning much of openSUSE and unsure of the compiling commands, which one(s) should be ran as a user, which commands should be ran as root... I've done a search on this topic and it seems there is a difference in login between make, make install, checkinstall etc.
I understand I'll also need some developer packages to compile tarballs however I don't know which ones. The last time I unsuccessfully tried to work with tarballs was when openSUSE 9.x was current. It's been that long. There is a program I absolutely need, it's SecondLife which I haven't found in any RPM repositories. I've downloaded the "linux" version from their website. The file name is: SecondLife-i686-2.5.2.223426.tar.bz2 I have a 64bit Toshiba notebook running 11.4
I use Factory repositories of KDE4 and there are new releases almost every day in that repository. Although I believe that there are useful updates in the packages, I don't think they are really that crucial that I should update them every day.
When I do update, I usually use graphical frontend and select from menu: Packages >> All Packages >> Update if newer version available. That includes all the updates available either for the program or the package.
I'd really like to be able to sort out these packages that have updates for the programs available. Is there any way to do it?
start out with I don't know much about computers and I'm using my brothers computer that has Opensuse. I am unable to ask him how to do this but I am trying to download programs off the internet.
I click download and software "CrossOver Installer" comes up and it says "Select an application to install." What do I pick?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a SONY PCG-R505TE laptop with an external CD/DVD, it connects via what I think is a PCMCIA card, the drive came with the laptop and functions fine. I currently have Windows XP running on this laptop, but it's very slow.I downloaded openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-i686.iso and sucessfully burned it to a CD.I have the laptop bios set to boot from CD, and it appears to be doing that no problem. When it boots I first see the welcome screen, then the openSUSE Installer, whether I select the Live (GNOME) option, or the Installation.. it loads the kernel, and then loads the KIWI boot systemit is on the third event, waiting for CD/DVD dvices to appear... that something seems to fail... I then see Failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drivethen a rebootexception and it reboots in 120 seconds.

All I can get are errors saying cang find kernel or error like that. I have used linux and windows environment. The iso I am using is fine, I am sure because I have instaled it on two pcs. Iso gnome-live >> usb (bootable to install)
I've just installed 11.4 and then updated to gnome 3. I've noticed that Nautilus doesn't appear to mount my windows NTFS partition. I find this odd because both Ubuntu and Fedora detect and mount it just fine in Gnome 3 (I've been trying all 3 this week).
View 7 Replies View RelatedLinux noob here with a very fresh Debian 5.04 install. Not sure if this is the correct board for this but here goes;*No* programs start in X. Terminal, System Monitor, Epiphany, Gedit, Synaptic Package Manager... They all fail to start.The programs try to start for 15 seconds after which they give up. For example, if I press the Epiphany-icon in the panel I see "Starting Epiphany We..." in the lower-left corner and the mouse cursor changes to the loading animation for 15 seconds but then after that nothing happens and the "Starting Epiphany We..."-icon disappears. I have two users (plus root of course) and the same thing happens with both accounts.
I can start the icons I have on my desktop (Computer, Home folder, Trash and Downloads) and I can Lock the screen/log off/shut down but that's about it. Oh and one more thing; sometimes when I log in everything works just fine, so this whole thing seems a bit random.
Are there frameworks/bindings for writing GNOME programs in LISP or java or one of the BASICs? Can I write a GNOME program in Objective C?

Witch packages do i have to install to have a FULL KDE enviroment as if i would have selected KDE when i installed suse? Not just the desktop, but kde apps, themes, etc. Or even better.
