OpenSUSE :: Access And Install Programs From KDEEDU?
Jul 17, 2010
I went to download a typing tutor and it says if you have linux, it should come with most new distros in a file library called KDEEDU ... how do I access and install programs from KDEEDU? I'd like to install kTouch.
I would like to be able to monitor which programs are allowed to access the internet, but a search for programs to do this has turned up nothing. Preferably, I would like a notification to come up every time an application uses the internet. Is there any (n00b friendly) software available to do that?
I want to know if i can install programs of gnome in KDE or otherwise.Gnome have a good editor called Gedit, this program can recognize php, html... and he works using tabs, and i believe that surpasses the Kwrite. This it's one of the examples. Can i run Suse with this two desktops? In One installation?
Is there an "easy" explanation somewhere in the forum about how to install programs which are in tarball form? I am relearning much of openSUSE and unsure of the compiling commands, which one(s) should be ran as a user, which commands should be ran as root... I've done a search on this topic and it seems there is a difference in login between make, make install, checkinstall etc.
I understand I'll also need some developer packages to compile tarballs however I don't know which ones. The last time I unsuccessfully tried to work with tarballs was when openSUSE 9.x was current. It's been that long. There is a program I absolutely need, it's SecondLife which I haven't found in any RPM repositories. I've downloaded the "linux" version from their website. The file name is: SecondLife-i686-2.5.2.223426.tar.bz2 I have a 64bit Toshiba notebook running 11.4
I use Factory repositories of KDE4 and there are new releases almost every day in that repository. Although I believe that there are useful updates in the packages, I don't think they are really that crucial that I should update them every day.
When I do update, I usually use graphical frontend and select from menu: Packages >> All Packages >> Update if newer version available. That includes all the updates available either for the program or the package.
I'd really like to be able to sort out these packages that have updates for the programs available. Is there any way to do it?
start out with I don't know much about computers and I'm using my brothers computer that has Opensuse. I am unable to ask him how to do this but I am trying to download programs off the internet.
I click download and software "CrossOver Installer" comes up and it says "Select an application to install." What do I pick?
I am coming from Kubuntu 10.10, which is a Debian based OS. I am used to going into the terminal and typing sudo apt-get install or sudo apt-get remove to install and remove programs. I know it is the hard way to do it, but I find it gave me more flexibility. So how do I do this in openSUSE 11.3? Or can I even install things through terminal? What is the command? I know there is YaST but I also want to learn how to use the terminal
after removing some programs I'm not able to login (I'm using an other computer now). I'm using opensuse 11.4the boot screen has changed from the normal to a grey one. before login following messages came up:
Frostwire and Nicotine + they both have outdated RPM's for 10.x that dose not support 11.3. They have newer .deb files. What would I have to do to install a .deb file. Navigate to the file using CD (change dir) and then? Model: Toshiba L505-ES3045 (Intel i3, 4gb Memory, OpenSuse 11.3/Windows 7, Intel HD Graphics) OS: OpenSUSE 11.3 Prior OS's: Mac OS/X11/Fink/Windows XP/Vista/7.
I want to install opensuse,add/remove programs, themes, customise and then re-spin it into an image which I can carry, perhaps as a live medium. I have heard Fedora has tools to do it.Does opensuse have any tool to do that?
I installed the latest version...Everything works like a charm. I have Windows Home Server 2003 running and would like to access all of my folders. How can i setup OPENSUSE to find/access my Windows Home Server 2003. Can you help me with this. Just to let you know. Am i missing something so i can access them locally.
I have F11 running on an MSI wind. I installed KDE and then downloaded LXDE and have been using it for a few days. All of the sudden LXDE panel and a program called GTK-gnash started eating up all my cpu. So, I stopped the processes and restarted the desktop via CTL-ALT_BACKSPACE and rebooted. Now I cant open anything in the fedora menu, no programs, nothing comes up. Cant find any info on what I should do. Can still run firefox and stuff from applets, just cant access my programs menu.
I am behind NAT using private IPs like 172.x.x.x in my lab. I need to access programs from other machines which are also behind NAT. What is the syntax of ssh command that i can run? Because when i make connection within one LAN for example:ssh -X 172.x.x.10 to 172.x.x.3 it works fine. I can access programs like gedit, firefox etc. But when i try to do the same on the machine that are behind NAT then i get this error;
[root@localhost ~]# gedit (gedit:3977):WARNING **: cannot open display:
I have an old PC on which I want to install openSuse 11.1. After install the PC will sit as a box minus any screen or keyboard. I aim to access it using VNC from another VISTA laptop. How should I configure the linux box to support this scenario? In otherwords I want to be able to switch on a Linux box that has no keyboard or screen, and then connect to it from a remote laptop using VNC?
I have used other distros on and off in the past with no trouble, but for some reason I seem to have had this problem with several versions and flavours of Ubuntu on various systems. I've never solved this problem the previous times I've had it, just given up. But this time I actually need to get this working. I've recently upgraded my computer, so my old system has been relegated to HTPC duties in my lounge. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and I'm having issues getting internet access with some programs, while others work fine.
Firefox and Evolution haven't been able to access the internet from the start.Empathy IM has no trouble connecting to my MSN and Facebook accounts.I had no trouble downloading and installing Google Chromium browser through Ubuntu Software Center, and have no trouble accessing the internet with Chromium. On the first boot after the install, Ubuntu automatically told me to update my nVidia drivers online, and did so without error.Update Manager detects updates, but fails to download them.
I successfully and flawlessly downloaded installed XBMC Media Center and some related skins and things through Synaptic, but XBMC cannot access the internet. However it can access shared files over my LAN, including Windows 7 shares.Ubuntu itself cannot access any files on my Windows 7 computer. It can access the work group and see my Win7 shares, but refuses to mount them. Strangely, XBMC can access these shares and stream media from them fine.
Let me see if I can put this coherently: Programs that require super user authentication AFTER they have been launched (for instance,in the time settings applet, you have to sudo authenticate to update the clock, but not just to open the applet. Another instance is Ubuntu-Tweak, which requires admin rights for some of it's functions.)

Any other information provided on request. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1, all updates applied.
installed sabayon 5 kde last week... am downloading game cd for sabayon gnome.. will i b able to use this on my sabayon kde? i was told there is 'wine' which can be used to access windows programs but i din find it in sabayon 5..
I see from the netspeed applet that my computer is downloading stuff almost constantly. Not a whole lot, 8b - 700b per second while apparently doing nothing. Some of this is just responding to broadcasts from the router, but surely not all. I would like to be able to determine which programs are accessing the internet over that wireless card, with a view to cutting down on my bandwidth usage. Is there a program that can tell me which ones are doing what at a given time?
At least this is what it looks like to me. Amarok can play music but asks to open kde wallet manager for some password. All other programs (vlc, media player, audacity, etc) seem to function normally but no sound comes out of the speakers. code...
So simply running program requiring sound enabling as root does not work - plus it would not be very good practice, IMHO.
I have a project stored on a university server which I'd like to be able to work on from home.
I already have an SFTP folder set up, which I can access easily in Nautilus, and I can freely copy files back and forth, or open them in e.g. gedit.
However, the project is in Matlab, and I cannot see the mounted SFTP folder from within Matlab. This means that I can't work on the project in Matlab without copying the whole lot across to my local machine when I want to work on it.
Is there some way I can get Matlab to "see" the connection so that I can use the mounted SFTP folder like any other in my filesystem? It appears on my desktop when connected - does it have some other mount location?
What distro is the easiest for a new person to get started? I also need wireless internet access. I've tried to do this once before with linux (mandriva as I recall, I gave up)before and had problems installing the programs that would allow that. Also are there Linux versions that I could install on my pocket PC?
I recently installed like every single package of wine on the "install programs" thingamabob. The only thing is that in my applications, it doesn't show wine. I went to the main site to download it and this is what I getIndex of /repositories/Emulators:/Wine/openSUSE_11.2How do I install Wine from this site?
I recently installed opensuse 11.2 on my laptop which also had windows vista and windows 7, i created a new partition and the installation went smoothly, after i went to boot back into windows 7 i got a blue screen of death, strangely vista boots perfectly.I could just reinstall windows 7 but its a pain to reinstall all my programs and such
