how to disable this prompt screen
from appearing every time I move my mouse pointer to the top left corner.This is annoying because every time i try to select 'computer' from my top placed taskbar, this prompt shows up.
How do I configure the keyboard shortcuts to switch workspace? There are no options for anything like "Switch to Workspace 1" etc in Control Centre->Personal->Keyboard Shortcuts.
I am using compiz with desktop wall, openSUSE 11.4 and GNOME.
After I upgraded to 11.3 version... when I press alt+f2 (how do you call this prompt) it appears on the top of the screen. On 11.2 version it were appearing at the middle of the screen which is of course much better.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had 250gb hard disk with dual boot, xp and ubuntu 10.10.Yesterday, i tried to upgarde my ubuntu 10 to 11 from a live cd....b4 doing so, i used a win software EasyBCD to fix the mbr but it didn't work properly..and i ignored it(my biggest mistake)and deleted the ubuntu partion from the windows device manager. It just displays "Booting from Live CD" for few minutes and again displyas the same above error.What should i do now?Its ok if i m not able to recover my data back...i hv sycnd my docs on the internet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just (finally) upgraded to Natty from Maverick. After the faffing around to restore my favoured AWN and Compiz combo, all's now ok, except for one annoyance to do with Compiz (0.9.4) and the workspace switcher. I can use the mousewheel to rotate workspaces up/down (actually, left/right) to go from 1->2->3->4->5->6->1.. and 6->5->4->3->2->1, but it won't rotate down / left from 1->6. It works ok if I use <Ctrl>left arrow from w/space #1.
I've checked the mappings for Button4 and Button5 in CCSM, and there's no clash. So, am I right in thinking this is probably a bug? Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix? Is downgrading to Compiz 0.8 likely to fix it?
I have installed Fedora 14 on Vmware workstation. When I am trying to switch to runlevel S/1,Just blank window is appearing, and I have to power off it forcibly as it doesnt prompt any shell. How shall I proceed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn KDE I'm using KWin as windows manager and somewhere in the configuration I defined that KDE should rotate the desktop cube to the left or the right each time I move my mouse pointer to the far left or right of the screen.If I keep it there for about a second it rotates the desktop cube to the next desktop.I once activated this but find this very frustrating when I'm trying to reach buttons on the same side. So I want to disable this feature but I can't find it anywhere. I can't remember where that option was that activated this feature.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I boot up my computer, Ubuntu (10.4) brings me to my desktop, then immediately displays a prompt to enter my login keyring. After some searching on the forums, it appears that this is because I set my laptop to auto-login. Am I missing something here, but what does auto-login have to do the the keyring? Why do I even need to enter that password? I understand that many Ubuntu users are picky about security, but why isn't their any option to disable this? It's almost as bad as UAC from Vista, which is one of the reasons I'm dual-booting Ubuntu in the first place. This is an annoying "problem" that has been bugging me since I first installed Ubuntu - how can I change it?

Is there any way to bypass that prompt and just go straight to the live usb mode?

If it is necessary I could just change it so that it boots into a fullscreen terminal so that you would have to input "startx" and then username and password. I have researched this particular problem for a couple of days now, and have explored some of the suggested solutions without success, other than learning much more about Linux. I am hoping someone can offer some good advice.I am working on a kiosk right now and as part of the application, I need to disable the Print Screen keyboard button. I have used 'xmodmap' to map keycode 111 to NoSymbol, but that is not stopping the Snapshot dialog from appearing. I am using OpenSuSE 10.3 with a GNOME desktop on an IBM PC with a Logitech USB keyboard. I have tried swapping the keyboard with a PS/2 keyboard to see if that was the problem, but it was not.
The strange thing is that when I use VNC 4.1.3 Free Edition to remote into this system from another IBM PC (Windows XP Pro OS), I am able to use the xmodmap -e "keycode 111 =NoSymbol" command to successfully prevent the Snapshot dialog from appearing.Is there some kind of keyboard mapping override or shortcut mapping going on here when I am logged into the Linux box locally, but is not happening remotely?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on a laptop with a second monitor configured as a separate x screen.
I configured the workspace switcher applet on the laptop screen to be 2x2 and it changed appropriately. When I go to the preferences for the workspace switcher on the second screen it says it's set to two columns and two rows but still displays as the default four columns and one row and any changes made have no effect.
I changed the setting num_rows from one to two under apps/panel/applets/workspace_switcher_screen1/prefs using gconf-editor and restarted my gnome-panels but it had no effect.
Is there anyway to make the workspace switcher on the second screen display as 2x2?
Running 10.04 on Asus 1005 HA netbook. When AC power is plugged in the screensaver appears after the time specified. However, on battery power the screen goes blank.I have read a number of threads on this topic and have made changes to power management settings (On Battery Power mirroring On Mains Power)and Compiz Settings|General|Unredirect Fullscreen Windows enabled, with no success.This also occurred when running 9.10. Not sure if it is a bug or incorrect settings.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI believe I may have found a bug in Unity. Under the right circumstances an application will jump from the workspace where I left them to my current workspace. This is most noticeable with VirtualBox. I built an Ubuntu 11.04 virtual machine so that I could test out new packages before I push them out to the rest of my machines. But the window for the virtual machine constantly appears in my current workspace. It may take a few minutes, or 30 minutes, but it will happen.
I can kind of understand it if a new window appears, but at least with VirtualBox, this happens on a running virtual machine seemingly randomly.
I've looked quite a bit, but didn't find an answer.
I have a Thinkpad x61s which comes with a "Sierra Wireless Mini Card module".
When I start up my computer, I get prompted for a PUK / PIN.
"Unlocking SIM PUK required" (sorry, this is a direct translation of the French, might not be the exact same words in English)
With three fields to fill:
Code PUK
New PIN Code
Reenter new PIN Code.
I don't have a card in my computer, and broadband mobile is not activated in networkmanager.
Does anyone have an idea how I can disable this prompt (I don't intend to put in a SIM card before some time).
As the title says I am looking for window managers that support having a workspace per screen. Now I'm not talking xrandr, twinview, xinerma or anything. I don't think this feature is possible with metacity. Most tiling window managers are like this and I love it, it makes things so much more efficient.

I just went out and bought a 19" flat screen LCD monitor. Plugged it in and it is not working correctly. When I start the computer the bios info will show up on the screen, then it goes to the screen that let's you choose an O/S if you were to dual boot. After clicking "enter" it will show the first line of the boot then it goes off into horizontal colors then goes black. I have search many different posts and googled but nothing is giving me a hint at this.I changed the xorg.conf to match the refresh rates to match the monitor but that did not work, and did not really think it would considering the point this monitor goes out on me. running: 2.6.27.7-smp 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller:

1) I got a dual screen and I can drag applications on screen No2. But if I log out, reboot or close the application, it will go back to screen No1. Is it possible to memorize the position of an application on Screen No2?
2) I use workspace a lot. I like to split them by function. I got "Development": Netbeans, firefox (one on each screen), "communication": Evolution, gwibber, empathy (Evolution on 1 and the rest on 2) and "Entertainment" (anything not involving work)Every morning, I have to move my applications to the diferent workspace. It would be great if on startup they just go where I told them to be!
Running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit.Is there a way to setup each workspace to have different icons on each workspace. Example:
Workspace 1 = Internet icon stuff (IM, Browsers, Etc...)
Workspace 2 = Multimedia icons (Video Editors, Music Clients)
Is there any way to have workspaces on multiple rows without the workspace switcher added to a panel? I have limited screen space so i want to try and remove any unnecessary items. I have tried using a drawer, but the workspace application is not loaded until the drawer is opened once. Also note I am not running compiz as the computer is a netbook.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a dist-upgrade from Karmic to Lucid. Everything *seems* to be running OK, but there's one thing that's really nerve wrecking: When I boot my computer, the "Loading" screen - before the splash screen where everything is initialized shows up - appears on an absurdly low resolution (not sure exactly which). So the graphics are awful, the text is too big and so on.
Aside from that, before the Loading screen shows up - right after "GRUB is loading" - a lot of characters (like plus signs) fill two lines of the screen. I think this might also be because of the resolution. So bottom line is:
1) Is there a way to fix this?
2) Should I be concerned enough to go with a full fresh install?
