Ive a little problem in xen guest machines. The hardware UTC time is grather than the insanity time (ntp doesnt works) and I cant change the date and time from yast. I can`t access the hwclock information (errno=19) unable to get /dev/rtc.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just recently found I have a problem under SUSE 10.3. History, I had my PC, an IBM Power Centre box with 4g ram and 2 hard-drives (80gb and 1Tb) fail to reboot after a power drop. Got an error message about the 80gb H/D losing some information. I was able tofix the issues by using "fsck". The PC was able to restart after this, and seemed to be working well.
However in the last couple of days I noiticed that the time was incorrect, it seems the sync for time has switched to normal time too early. Right mouse click to adjust this would not bring up the "adjust time" window. ?Why, unknown. I then decided I would go through "YAST" to do my changes, but now I am unable to load "YAST". I can load it through a terminal window, but there must be some reason why it won't load the GUI? from the menu.? There could be other programs that are also not loading that I have not found.
Q- could something have been lost when I had the H/D reboot issue? And if so is there any way of restoring lost or coruputed OS files?
I have the 10.3 OS on DVD, which is how I installed it, and note that there is a recovey prompt, but need some advise on how to go about it. A total reinstall is not an option at this time until I can get a backup unit running.
I set my location, but Debian displays DATE in some messed format. I would expect such neat OS to recognize all those local settings based on my location, but that's not the case. It seems that Debian follows locale settings by set language (which is en_us in my case, as I guess in majority uses) or this format is default in any case
I would like to set date/time to DD.MM.YY. hh:mm:ss, and programs that display date data to follow this setting. Simply put, in Windows there is Control Panel and you set location, then OS uses some regional settings, like currency, separators, date/time format.
In the past, I just edited the /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/dateMenu.js file to alter the date and time format. Today when I tried that, it crashed GNOME Shell and wouldn't let it start..

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to change the time stamps on a bunch of pictures in the same directory, because several cameras were used, some of them with the wrong time zone.exiftool seems to be the correct package to use, but it doesn't seem to work.
The following command seems to be the recommended way to subtract 1 hour from all .JPG files in the directory, but the exif data in the file and even the time stamps don't change.

I want to change the Date and Time of the system from my application. This can be done using the "Date -s" linux command. But the application has to be executed as root/sudo. is it possible that root can give permission to normal user to execute the "Date -s" command?

The code runs fine and Ubuntu loads also from the ISO stored in the C: drive of my system.
The problem is when Ubuntu loads it changes my clock time. I have set the timezone to Indian Standard Time. Since it is live CD it should not make any changes in the system however, it does change the Data/Time of my system.
I have the application and kernel module running on my system. In the meantime, I am changing the date and time of the system. However, this change doesn't reflect on log messages of the application that's being executed.

I have 2 opensuse 11.1 servers and on both when you adjust the time in yast, I go back into yast and the setting for the NTP server is not set and "manual" is checked. View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a switch tray on my computer and I installed opensuse in one of the hard drives that I have but as I switch between the windows hard drive and opensuse the time changes all the time. For example it's 10pm right now and if I switch the hard drive to opensuse the time automatically gets adjusted 4 hours back and then I fix it and when I switch back to my windows hard drive the time goes forward 4 hours. I check both region settings and they are both set to NY Eastern time. Why is it doing this?

But when I try to add community repositories I get the 11.3 repositories, not the 11.4 repositories. So there must be a .conf or .rc file somewhere telling yast that we're on 11.3 when in fact we are on 11.4. How/where can I change that? And while we're at it, how do I load a Factory repository? They do not appear in the list of Community" repositories.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having a wireless issue (go figure) where I can't get to the internet, can get to my LAN just fine, but trying to ping anywhere on the net just gives me "network unavailable" message.One thing I've seen noted here time and again is people saying "Use Yast vs Network manager" when I go through the Yast Network Devices GUI it tells me it's using network manager, and I need to use ifup (if I want to use Yast), however I have no clue how to go about changing it from one to the other?
Currently I'm using hard-link to get all the updates and see if that will resolve my problems, but figured I'd learn how I'm supposed to switch it for the future.
I just installed OpenSuse 11.2 3 months ago on my laptop. I'm running with the Gnome Desktop. I live in Chicago and am currently in London. When I set the timezone to Europe/UK the date/time are correct UNTIL I reboot the laptop. After reboot if I type in the 'date' command it shows the time at 6+ hours from London time. When I check the hardware clock 'hwclock' it displays the correct London time. I check the time setup with yast and it shows the correct Timezone but again shows the 6+ hours difference. I change the time in yast and and my applications ( e-mail) display the correct local time again... UNTIL I reboot and then I'm right back where I started - wrong local time ! I suppose I could write a little startup script to do a 'hwclock --hctosys' but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone out there had any ideas..BTW - I hate to say this but on the same laptop running XP I don't have this problem AND I didn't see this problem in OpenSuse 10.3 or 11.1

Something like doing a kfilereplace on the /etc/zypp/repos.d/ folder and changing all occurances of 11.3 to 11.4 (in all *repo, which are all the files in the folder). Will this work?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE on my notebook with an usb drive using openSUSE 11.4 KDE LIVE iso. The installation process set the name to "linux-ygrl" which I don't really like. (I probably just missed the setting during the installation.). I tried to change it through YaST -> Network -> Hostnames and I set everything where needed to the new name and restarted but the changed weren't applied. I searched the web and found out about the /etc/HOSTNAME file which still contains "linux-ygrl". Now I could change it manually but I was wondering if there is a GUI for it? (I mean, openSUSE has for alsmost everything a GUI.

I've tried googling, but can't manage to figure out how to change the priority order of the sound cards in yast. From yast > hardware > sound, I can see the (default) internal audio from the motherboard, and I can see the usb headset that I would like to be using as the default. I've got fedora 11 set up to use network time protocol to sync my laptop's date & time when I'm on-line. The question is simple really, I've added a local universality's time server (what is public) and it's live. but it's added to the end of the default time servers what come with fedora. How do I get fedora to just use the local time server, is it a case of removing the default time servers for fedora, but there is a box what says advanced options which are. sync system clock before starting service ???? & use Local time source (( is that the same as the local ntp server that I've got set up ))Hope some body can help me with the network time protocol part of Date/Time settings.
