Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Wireless On 1000HE

Apr 19, 2010

I've recently installed ubuntu 9.10 for the first time on my Asus 1000HE and I can't connect to my wireless.
I first tried it using the default network manager program, it would display the nearby wireless networks but when I entered in my password and clicked on connect it would try for a minute and then just stop, I believed it wasn't properly encrypting my password so I decided to uninstall and then install wicd, but wicd is doing the same thing. I can see nearby wireless networks but it doesn't connect, even though I know the password I'm using is correct.

I've been looking around for an answer for the last few days and I've tried many different things to no avail, so I've pretty much given up, but I thought I'd try here as a last resort. Hopefully someone here will know how to fix it or else I'll just have to go back to Windows =/.

I've got a Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter, if that helps, and here is my output for: sudo ifconfig

OpenSUSE Wireless :: How To Get The WLAN To Connect To The Internet

Jun 3, 2011

Linux is what i'd like to learn, so Howdy to all and i hope to speak to you all regularly
in short, I started with Ubuntu Linux about 6 months ago, Didn't like it, i researched various distro's and came across, PC Linux OS, it was really cool, But i couldn't get it to connect Wirelessly, so i tried something else... the bottom line is i finally settled on SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11, i seem to like it a lot.Ok.. now that introductions are out of the way

Background info: I've installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 on my Sony Vaio Laptop (VGN-NW15G) with no major issues, after a bit of mucking around, i got the LAN to Connect to the internet, after some more mucking around, i figured out how to get the WLAN to connect to the internet.MY Goal: To be able to Wirelessly Network my Laptop with My PC.so that i can access the files on the PC, From my laptop, and Vice Versa, but the important thing is to first be able to access the PC files from the Laptop.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Can't Connect Ralink 2561 Wlan

Mar 6, 2010

I have installed opensuse 11.2 on a second partition, with the ultimate aim of leaving windows altogether. Unfortunately, I seem to be having terrible trouble (as do many others) getting my wireless internet connection working. I have viewed lots of posts in these forums and done everything I can think of, but since I am a linux novice, am unable to identify the problem. The card is working, since it can identify local SSIDs, it has been set up (to the best of my knowledge) correctly in YAST, but nothing seems to work.
I'll include some information I have recorded from my system.. I typed the commands below with the accompanying output listed:

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Only Temporarily Connects On Asus EEE 1000HE?

Jul 4, 2011

I've got an Asus EEE 1000HE, and it's worked fine for a long time with the EEEBUNTU distro (a distro based on Jaunty (i think) with a custom kernel). Unfortunately, Eeebuntu is no longer maintained, so I recently did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04.2. I am now unable to get my wifi to work reliably.

The wifi tries to connect for a while, then pops up the "Wireless Network Authentication Required" window. If I hit "connect" it will try again for a while, then pop up the window. Etc. Note I know that my connection information is OK. I haven't mistyped the password (see below). Also note that the wifi antenna is turned on. For example, iwlist scan is able to find my network.

There is a weird twist though: The netbook is always able to connect through an ethernet cable on eth0 just fine. If I boot the netbook with the ethernet cable plugged in, the wifi instantly connects as well! I can then unplug the ethernet cable (eth0 goes away), but I am still able to use the wifi connection for about 5 minutes before it disconnects, and goes back to trying and failing to connect.

This behavior is 100% replicable--the wifi always works fine (for about 5 minutes) if it boots with the ethernet cable plugged in. Very rarely, the wifi will also connect on boot without the ethernet cable, but that is not replicable.

Other EEE netbooks seem to have issues with multiple wireless drivers, like in this thread. Perhaps something similar is happening here? My card seems to be using rt2860sta as a driver. I tried blacklisting it, to see if another driver was trying to load instead, but that just negated my wifi altogether. (It's unblacklisted again)

My router is a very reliable Linksys WRT54GL with factory firmware which has never been flaky.

I'm at my wit's end. This netbook will be useless without wifi.

Below is the suggested information for a first post:

Here's lspci (note there is nothing listed as "Wireless Brand" to grep out):

Code:
lspci

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Can't Connect Asus N13 Wifi Dongle (Ralink RT2870 )

Nov 7, 2010

Im a Linux newbie and am running OpenSuse 11.3 (Gnome, 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop Kernel) and Ive an Asus N13 wifi dongle (linux compatible). I currently connect using my laptopÅ› internal wifi but I bought the dongle due to trouble with weak signal. It came with some sort of code that can be "compiled" but I havent got a clue how to do that (and I have been researching this matter for quite some time now). I then came across a post where someone with the same USB stick created and added only two small files to his filesystem and it worked...for him (maybe becasuse he was on a different Distro )

Ralink RT2870 USB Stick and created the two files mentioned in the post (network_drivers.rules and network_drivers.conf) and placed them in ETC... etc, etc! I rebooted the system but NetworkManager only lists it as "device not ready" ... So now back to square one.

Fedora Networking :: Can't Connect Wireless With Asus Pce-n13

Jul 20, 2010

I haven't been able to find anything really useful on google either. Was hoping you guys could point me somewhere or explain a process that might work. What I've tried so far is downloading the driver from ralink and trying to follow their procedure for getting it setup. Following the readme I get lost at step 3 and attempting to make it, I get:

[boardbox@niflheim ~]$ cd Desktop/2010_07_16_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0
[boardbox@niflheim 2010_07_16_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0]$ make
make -C tools

[code]...

but this hasn't fixed my problem either. I can see networks but I can't connect to anything, so kinda still stuck at square one.

EDIT: Turns out in frustration and absent-mindedness I didn't reboot and that fixed it.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Device Is An Integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

Dec 25, 2009

My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Not Working \ When Click On Networking Panel, It Says WLAN Interface Is Unavailable?

I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. The results of the sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command produce the following:

Mar 1, 2010

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an ASUS eeepc 1000HE, and my wireless card, RaLink RT 2860, is failing to recognize any wireless networks. It was working fine this morning, until I accidentally hit Fn F2, disabling the wireless card. OpenSUSE Wireless :: WLAN USB Works With 11.3 But Not 11.4?

Apr 18, 2011

While it worked out of the box in 11.3, openSUSE 11.4 does not recognize my TP-Link TL-WN821N any more.

Googling a bit, apparently the old ar9170 driver is deprecated and supposedly a new driver carl9170 is integrated in the kernel now, but since it is not working this cannot be quite right.

Unfortunately, I do not understand much of the instructions given at the above two URLs: Should I try to install the old ar9170 driver? If so, I found older, pre-11.4 posts here that seem to indicate that is not so simple as just copying a firmware file somewhere, so how can I install it in openSUSE 11.4? Or should I rather try getting the new carl9170 to work? If so, how can I do this if it is already supposed to be part of the kernel?

The 11.3 Net-Install (from CD) recognised that USB-WLAN-Stick all by itself, installing 11.3 just fine through the air. With 11.4 it didn't work. So I borrowed a WLAN bridge for a couple of days and installed 11.4 now (32bit plain install plus Packman), but even after the install, plugging in that Stick does not do anything.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Knetworkmanager No Connecting On One Particular Wlan?

Jan 20, 2010

on kde4 with knetworkmanager I cannot get past the wep security key on my home router. Every other wlan works, ethernet works, settings are definitely correct because it works with windows, other computers. And on the same computer even with gnome networkmanager! Also it used to work fine earlier. Behavior the same with different users including root, regardless of using kwallet or not. Networkamanager tries to connect and after one or two minutes throws the setting window back at me. I uninstalled and re-installed and deleted all related files I could think of. I even tried a complete fresh installation of opensuse only keeping the /home partition, so the problem must be lying there I guess. But then why all users?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: OS11.2 Installed But WLAN (Atheros5212)?

Jan 15, 2010

After been convinced by an exchange student from Nashville I am hosting here in Germany I went into openSuse 11.2. I installed and got openSuse 11.2 to work. I must admit, that I was very impressed. It is more than 10 years that I tried a UNIX system and Linux was quite a cryptic thing. First some additional drivers had to be installed to get MP3 to play. However Internet access was possible with cable but the system failed in recognizing the WLAN.

Here is my system:
HP Compaq nc4000
OpenSuse 11.2 (i586)
KDE 4.3.1 "release 6"
Wireless Network
Atheros AR5212

I have looked through some posts but must admit, that I did not understand much of that. I Am willing to learn, however I do not see myself compiling some drivers. If you could tell me which URL could be used for dloading or installing via Yest, If more sophisticated solutions, than I will have to ask my student to do it for me, but he should learn German and learn more about German lifestile in German Bars.

since if read all the forums threads, faqs an tutorials i could find, i hope to find some help here.
i just installed openSuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 a fews days ago to see what's it all about. i don't have any experience in writing code or anything besides the few little commands i've learnd through my research. the system is running on an old laptop (amd64 3000+) with enough RAM and HD. now i since my wlan-card is detected but won't work due to missing driver i tried this ndiswrapper-method. i used the ndis-version that was included in the openSuse-dvd with no success, then i de-installed this version to try manually. i downloaded version 1.55 from the ndiswrapper-website, logged into the console as superadmin and followed the install-intructions and for intances this tutorial. now i'm even stuck with the "make"-command as the console tells me "If 'make' is not a typo. in earlier attempts while trying to install the wlan-driver through the dvd-given ndiswrapper version i often got the error "makefile:23: kernel tree not found..."
as the welcome-note for this forum demands here's some output from the console linux-g6rk:/home/mat/ndis # lspci -nn

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Unable To Access University WLAN Network?

Nov 12, 2010

I'm unable to get into my university's WLAN network. LAN works just fine, but sometimes it's quite convenient to be able to access stuff wirelessly. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, because if I configure my computer according to our computer department's instructions it works fine with Ubuntu (currently I carry around a stick to get into the Internet when I really need it and don't have a cable). Some info:

My device:
Broadcom WLAN controller on a Lenovo G560

My system:
OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit

The drivers are installed, I can get into normal private networks, but have never managed to get into the university network except for with Ubuntu.

The university instructions tell me to use the following settings:
Security: WPA Enterprise
Authentification: TTLS
Inner Authentification: PAP
Username: My username
Password: Password
CA Certificate: Deutsche_Telekom_Root_CA_2.pem
In the KDE instructions, they tell you to write "anonymous" into the anonymous identity field, but in the GNOME instructions it says to leave it blank. In Ubuntu, I leave it blank and it works.

I've got the recommended settings, which also work in GNOME.

I'd ask the tech support here, but I am the tech support We've got it working with other systems, like I said, but not with SUSE, and I'm a SUSE fan.
