Networking :: Opensuse 11.4 Cannot Use The Tar.gz File From Realtek Rtl8192se
May 15, 2011
Not too many entries for this Realtek product in the forum, but it appears that the commands MAKE and MAKE INSTALL do not work in opensuse 11.4 for the above Realtek NIC. I suspect that it is Realtek's driver which is a tar.gz file and the problem. They do not provide either an rpm or deb file.
Is there anyone out there who has had success with this driver in opensuse 11.4, or for that matter, opensuse 11.3?
After having installed ubuntu 11.04 my laptop's wireless device (realtek rtl8192se on a packard bell laptop) disappears on ubuntu 11.04. Before, with ubuntu 10.10, I had no problems. Now, when I start ubuntu 11.04, sometimes the wireless card work, but most of times it doesn't: the wireless led is off, and with the lspci command I got no line about wireless card. If I restart the laptop and I start win7, the wireless card doesn't work there too! only after many reboots and/or shutdowns wireless card appears again.
I have just installed an Edimax EW-7612PIn PCI-E Wifi card which has an RTL8192SE chipset. This chipset is not supported under current F15 kernels so I have installed the driver and firmware from source and have that working fine. The driver can see the card and I can issue 'iwconfig' commands successfully enough to see my Wifi network.
The problem I have is that I don't understand the relationship between iwconfig and wpa_supplicatant and as I'm running a headless F15 server I cannot use the NetworkManager GUI to help me. I should also note that the Wifi network is using WPA2-Personal encryption.
This is what I have done:
Configured /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 with what I think are reasonable values (based on google searches), including the ESSID, TYPE as Wireless, etc.
Configured /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf, including using the key value returned from wpa_passphrase.
Arranged for wpa_supplicant to run from boot, using chkconfig.
However when I run 'ifconfig wlan0 up' I get the error message 'link is not ready' and indeed looking at the output from 'iwconfig wlan0' there are no configured values. I also understand that some values are configured by iwconfig and others by wpa_supplicant, however it's not clear what.
I am running Debian 6 & picked up a wireless nic for my desktop since I want to locate it in an area that would be a challenge to wire. I downloaded the driver and ran make and got the strange error below. I tried doing some web research but could not find anything. I also booted up the machine w/ a Ubuntu Live disk to ensure the card was good and found no issues ( I also have the same nic in my kids machine running Ubuntu 10.10. )
I installed CentOS 5.3 Final on a machine today and was having some problems with the NIC. When I installed CentOs the NIC would not work, I looked in the network configuration and saw that neither of my two NICS had IRQ's so I arbitrarily gave them some and they both worked fine. I then ran yum -update, installed updates and rebooted my machine. Again, the NICs stopped working, only this time setting the IRQ did nothing. I did some googling and found this thread: [URL] The output from the first two commands is as follows:
I am wondering if there are working realtek drivers for 11.3 and where to get them? I went to realteks site but only found drivers for linux 2.6 and i dont know if they will work.
I just checked the Realtek website and they have a new Linux Driver for the RTL8185. The new driver is dated 6/26/2009. So it is quite recent. I would have thought it might have gotten into FC11.
I have 2 questions. Has anyone tried it? What would be the steps to install it?
I am brand new to ubuntu (I installed it about 2 hours ago on my new PC). Everything so far has seemed really easy and straight-forward, but I am having problems trying to connect to my wireless network.
I have a Realtek 8185 wireless card, and have the disk with the inf file on it. I installed ndisgtk but when I pointed it to the inf file, I got an "error while installing" message, then it showed up in the list of currently installed drivers in ndisgtk but as an invalid driver. I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong.
I actually have another wireless card in my old PC (a belkin of some sort) - would I be better off using that? I'm using an ethernet cable at the moment and it works absolutely fine, I just plugged it in and off I went.
I have a white label netbook with the Realtek RT8187SE Wireless card on PCIe. It is not detecting wireless networks consistently. When I am even 1 meter from the wireless router, I get no networks in range, but sometimes I pick up networks that are more than 20 meters from me. I can not connect, even if it is unsecure.
WiFi Radar does not detect the card. If I run a system check on the PCI bus I get the following: 02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8187SE Wireless LAN Controller (rev 22) Subsystem: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8187SE Wireless LAN Controller Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17
I've had this problem ever since I've installed this ethernet card in the PC (after the 'effin integrated one blew off for some reason), I wasn't ever able to make the networking work again. Every time I try to trigger the PPPoE connection (DSL), the PPP configurator keeps on looking for the concentrator, reaches over 100% and stayed like that for 1 hour. Here's the terminal log of everything that I've tried:
I have an ASUS M4A785-m and it has the Realtek 8112L gigabit nic. The weird thing is, the 10.10 rc saw the nic card just fine, and windows sees the card so it's not disabled in the bios.
Ubuntu says i have no network connections and i need to get internet. Any suggestions?
I should also note that i'm running from the livecd and lspci shows that it detects my NIC. but my NIC isn't "detected" in that it can be used.
I have tried ndiswrapper using 32 bit and 64 bit winxp drivers and the 32 bit driver just doesn't work period (as expected.) The 64 bit driver locked the system up completely and I ended up reinstalling ubunto. I have now reinstalled and updated and upgraded ubunto 10 times in the last 3 days of trying to get this to work and need some external!
using Code: lshw -C network
I do see my network card and driver.
Where I am at currently: I have a fresh install of ubunto 10.04 with it upgraded and updated. I do not have ndiswrapper gtk installed and I have not downloaded any drivers for the wireless card.
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0bda:8171 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188SU 802.11n WLAN Adapter this adapter shows up in network manager when connected to computer but doesn't detect network and cant connect to any network I have setup in nm, the adapter works fine in windows and it's supposed to work in linux or do I have to install drivers?
Ubuntu 10.10 - the Maverick Meerkat (Installed .iso from cd)The router has a password that I'm not sure if is wep or wpa. When I manually put in the address, netmask, gateway, dns, domain my Realtek usb adapter is connecting to the router but is not receiving packets.I got the driver installed with ndiswrapper.I'm trying to figure out wpa_supplicant
I recently installed ubuntu on my computer and when i put in my network wireless usb adapter (Realtek RTL8191SU) it isn't recognize, and the internet doesn't work. When I do lsusb, it comes up with Realtek Corperation however. And also the light on it doesn't flash either.
trying to get my little Encore USB wireless adapter to work on several flavors of Linux (Ubuntu 10,10, ElementOS, Xubuntu, and Puppy), I emailed tech support at Realtek. I asked where is the Linux driver for this product? I did this because there were no Linux drivers posted on their site and everyone here (and on Newegg) is jumping though hoops trying to get a working wireless connection with the Encore and similar dongles that use the RT8187b chipset. I didn't expect an answer, but felt better after my little vent. I get an email from Realtek with a driver. Realtek needs to promote Jerry -- a beacon of customer service in the age of the "get lost" school of customer relations. I have attached the driver below. Caveat: I have not yet compiled the driver, so I don't know much more about it than I've said already, although the archive appears to contain the source code.
After compiling the Realtek drivers from their page (ver 8.024), installing the module, blacklisting r8169 and updating the initramfs, I still can't get the network card working. The card is listed in lshw as RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller.lsmod shows only r8168.dmesg keeps spitting once and again, every second or so the following:
Code: [ 1293.452274] r8168: eth0: link up [ 1294.449785] r8168: eth0: link down
I needed to get a wireless adapter for my desktop PC so I went to newegg and looked around to see what PCI-E cards they had available. I came across a Encore one that uses the realtek 8192CE chipset. I confirmed before I bought it that it is supported in the kernel as of version 2.6.38. I am running Slackware 13.37 and I compiled a new 2.6.39.1 kernel and after I rebooted the kernel I checked lsmod, iwconfig, and ifconfig and confirmed that all the correct modules are loaded and the card is recognized by both iwconfig and ifconfig. At first Wicd acted as if there was no card in the system so I checked dmesg and found that I was missing the firmware for the drivers. I went to the realtek sight and downloaded the drivers from there and got the firmware and copied it to /lib/firmware/rtlwifi and now wicd recognized the card and finds my networks. But whenever I try to connect to my network I get an error saying "Can't obtain IP address". I have googled around and can't find any clues on this. The only thing I have noticed is that the activity LED is not working which leads me to believe the card is either turned off/or not powered on. The light works fine in Windows 7. The network I am connecting also uses WEP. I am having no trouble connecting in Windows so I know the card works.
Id like to report a bug in the distro that KDE cannot deal with my Sound Card (snd-hda-intel). Its recognized by the kernel and the module works well, the Yast tested it well too, but when I try to use AmaroK or a media/video player it doesnt work, never, since the version 11.1 when I acquired my PC.My sound card is a onboard nForce 630i, that uses Realtek High-Def audio driver; I suppose I aint sayin foolishness, so on openSUSE and KDE the sound doesnt come up,but only on programs, in tests and on another situation it works, even on streaming videos! Thats why I dont understand what is the real deal.I tested it on Gnome too and the problem persists,so Ive to change the distro and Im using Mandriva now, which I dont like it too much, but everything works well.
I have used google and read a few topics here at this forum. ( especially this Getting Your Wireless to Work was very interesting for me ) But it is useless for me, because I am newborn in GNU/Linux. I use openSUSE 11.3 with KDE. I have read, that you need some informations about my hw. I hope these are
i just installed the latest opensuse version on my asus eee pc 1001px which has realtek alc269 sound card. The problem is that there is no sound coming from headphones when plugged in.. I had the same problem in ubuntu 10.04 and i solved it editing the alsa.conf and adding a line.. i didn't manage to find any solution for opensuse though.
I bought a Toshiba A500 two days ago (was in a rush, my old A200 had a catastrophic failure) and the wireless doesn't work. I have two network related devices listed with lspci:
To my question: I found this article (HOWTO: Xplora E16 Ubuntu 9.04 32Bit and 64Bit with wired and wireless networking - Novatech Community Forums), which seems be consistent with my situation (wired connection works, wifi doesn't and my kernel is 2.6.31). I ran the installation and it appears it worked...BUT, is this going to create major problems down the line (kernel upgrades, etc.?)
I have downloaded the driver installed it, and it works fine. But i can't get to turn it off. I do have the ability to unload the driver's kernel modules and the sysyem does not see my card after that. That's ok, but i'm thinking it still uses my battery power. The wifi led is always on no matter what i do. The fn+<wifi key> doesn't to anything.
I have a problem with my internet connection this is the picture the device is Realtek RTL8187. i didn't know how can i manage this device to work so could you help me i don't have an internet connection in ubuntu right know and i really wanna move to ubntu my verison is 9.10
Im not able to establish a Wireless Internet connection in Ubuntu 10.04.
Ive tried these steps:
1. Wireless Internet did not show via the Network-icon. Only the 2 LAN-gates where shown
2. I installed the Windows Driver (net8185.inf) via ndisgtk package
3. After restarting the computer, 2 LAN-gates and 1 WLAN where listed via the Network-icon
4. Normally WLAN should automatically start scanning for available networks, but that didnt happen
5. When I tried to connect to my own network, the computer tries to connect for 1 minute and than stops because no connection could be established
6. A wired Internet-connection does not give any problems
Details: - I first had Ubuntu 9.10 but I wasnt able to make a WLAN connection either. I followed the same steps. After that I upgraded to 10.04 - iwconfig in Terminal gives an IP-address which consists of 12 identical characters. - lspci in Terminal shows these data: 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02)
[Code]....
My questions:
- How to create an Internet connection via my WLAN-card?
- How to install the option to search for available networks automatically?
I have installed 9.04 ( I currently have it on dual boot with Windows XP) and my problem is that I have no internet connection. I have a Motorola modem with a Realtek RTL8139 Family Fast Ethernet NIC network card ( it's a wired connection, btw) When I plug in the cable, there's a little animation, but after a while I get the message: Wired connection is not active (or something like that) Here's what I did so far:
1) I ticked the Wake-On-Lan option in XP, since I read it in the forums that I could solve my problem. It did not
2) I turned off my modem, rebooted my system.
3) I deleted the Auto Ethernet network, and plugged in the cable again...no use.
4) I did an ifconfig, since I know that is what you guys really want
evajulia@Derek:~$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:18:f3:ab:2b:3a inet6 addr: fe80::218:f3ff:feab:2b3a/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
