It is possible to install this kind of menu on suse? I watched several movies on yt and it seems to be nice usability improvement comparing to standard OS menu - clean,simple, accessible.

opensuse v11.2 The Gnome help describes how to install fonts: copy the font files to </usr/share/fonts>. I have some Type1 fonts with PFB, PFM, AFM and sometimes INF face files. The only ones I see in the <Type1> directory are AFM and PFA. Which font files does Gnome actually require? Is a PFA needed? Are the font files moved/deleted from </usr/share/fonts/> after installation? Is there a more obvious way to install fonts in Gnome?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Opensuse 11.2 DVD on a machine with Windows XP. During the installation I installed the KDE desktop. I had not tried out the KDE desktop. I had a Live CD with the Gnome desktop that i had tried out and liked. I think I like the Gnome desktop better. Now I would like to run both desktops. After going to the install new software and changing the view to patterns and select the "Gnome Desktop Environment" I get this error.

I was able to install the Gnome Base system with no problems or conflicts.
By trying to install opensuse 11.4 / 1 the installation hungsup at a late level. After rebooting the system, the configuration goes on. When finishing the installation on that way, there are no menus so you can to simply nothing. The problem of system hanging exists also with version 11.3 final release but after rebooting the configuration goes on and when finished, you have the menus.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have squeeze with Gnome installed. My problem is the monitor goes into "black" and I'd like to disable any kind of of stanby-mode. If I search for screensaver using Synaptic, I have these packages installed:
xdg-utils
gnome-settings-daemon
but in gnome menu cannot find any screensaver options. Power Manager I've disabled already in the "Startup Programs". Howto disable all screensaver and power-save options from the command line?
I seem to have lost my desktop menu at the top of the screen (for want of the right term the start menu in windows). Can anyone remember how I can get it back or the name and location of the utility I can use to control the look & features of the desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust installed xsnow on my sisters Ubuntu pc and it runs ok, however it seems not to work properly with the desktop icons. When a snowflake falls over the icon it kind of cuts a jagged line through it. The icon is then restored when you hover over it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedF13 just installed for me on a server back in the states for me. I VNC into it to setup my personal website. The GNOME menu listings do not have the tool I am familiar with that tells me which process are running, allows me to stop and start them, and to install them I believe if they are on the machine. I can see that MYSQL are on the machine with the Add/Remove tool. I also see myphpAdmin. I need to get both of these up and running. I should be able to do this with out going back to 1980's terminal commands right?

Its a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 and I want to be able to use gnome desktop environment and connect to it with NX Client from my windows 7.
I have done the basics..

I have done this installations a couple of times before and everytime it's been working for me.
I emailed their support about it as well.
They told me it should work by just doing these first steps, but since it didn't they asked to take a look at it. So they did.
I got this mail back from them:
It seemed that your server is missing some packages/services.
Therefore, I need to ask you first if you acknowledge the ability of being charged with the additional support fee of 37,25 Euro per 15 minutes support?
I will never pay more for 15 minutes of support then I payed for the server thats for sure..
while installing openSuse on my PC, I dont get Desktop but only command line. I can see the following:
1) during boot process its staing: "Failed services in runlevel 5" and "waring GdmDisplay: display lasted 2.1317348 seconds" and " GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximun number of X display failure reached.
2) /var/log/Xorg.n.log files (n=1-5) "AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0"
I installed Gnome desktop environment recently then ;I' ve lost KDE desktop effects settings. I just can see Compiz Configirator. I cant configure effects independently. There is same settings in gnome and kde. And also I cant change windows appearence.

I installed Wine and several menu entries were created in my GNOME applications menu. However, when I went to change the menu items later, (Through [Edit Menus]), the Wine Menu folder was replaced with the 'Other' folder, and the layout of the Wine Menu was destroyed.

After playing with it for a while I wanted to change back but found that right clicking on the desktop no longer launches the usual menu. If I change to "netbook form" rather than desktop, the menu is there, but even rebooting has not fixed the problem.

In addition the network manager does not show up and does not configure the network (wireless). This behavior is since the latest update last week. Has anybody seen this as well? How can I revert to the previous state?
For no known reason there are a few subdirectories added to my Gnome - Locations - menu.
Both the traditional panel menu and the new - computer - menu
In the - computer - menu there is a option to remove items but this does not work.
Is there any way to remove those subdirectories from the menu list. Or/and where can I find that list to edit this manually. (Menueditor alacarte does not edit locations and system). (Suse 11.1)
I switched from 11.2 to 11.4 yesterday. I noticed that the Appearance dialog has only three tabs instead of four tabs. The last tab "Interfaces" does not exist, in where I can select "Show Icon in Context Menu". But I do not know, how to show icons in context menu.

When selecting applications from the gnome menu, randomly the application will appear to not launch. However, if I click anywhere in left, upper portion of my desktop it becomes obvious that the application has launched and is not visible. For example, yast will not appear but clicking in that portion of my desktop causes various windows to appear that correspond to the different options in the yast home screen.

Right click on applications will let you hide an entry, not modify it. Right clicking on the suse computer menu won't even allow that. If I could find the file(s) which hold the actual data I could modify as required, but where are they?

However, I'm loving what I'm seeing with suse/kde combo. I'm planning on making an extensive right-click menu to categorize all my applications. Basically I want to have the "start" menu available to me when I right-click. I've google casually for a couple days and haven't found much that helps, but I think its because I'm not using the correct keywords seeing as I'm new to this environment.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to make a [Desktop Entry], but I'm not sure how to handle hierarchy and stuff like that.
I downloaded Eclipse and am trying to create a launcher for it in the main menu. I finally figured out that a .desktop file needed to be made in /usr/share/applications, but I can't get the icon to show up. For the "Icon" field in the .desktop file,tried giving an absolute path to an icon in my home folder, and I also tried putting the icon in all the folders under /usr/share/icons and just putting "eclipse" (the icon file name) as the valueI had copied this last from some of the existing .desktop files that worked, but still had no luck. Does anyone know how to do this?

The Applications menu has to much sub-menus. I prefer it flat. The nautilus bookmarks are not directly accessible in Places either, which is not really comfortable.
