Ubuntu :: Load Any Webpages On Firefox In 10.10

Dec 5, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64bit and am having a problem with Firefox. I'm currently dual booting windows 7 and Ubuntu. My net works perfectly on Windows 7 and even on Ubuntu I was able to download a NVIDIA driver and 193MB worth of updates for Ubuntu. I just can't seem to load any webpages on Firefox. I have DHCP enabled but I also tried a static IP address but still had no success. I also tried adjusting my proxy settings in Firefox cycling through no proxy, Auto-detect proxy settings etc. but i still could not load any pages.

The error message is always "The connection has timed out. The server at ubuntu.com is taking too long to respond." I've tried other websites and can't load them. As a point of interest I was able to access my routers web config page.

For some reason I can't load any webpages with FF. I get this error: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at en-us.mozilla. I can ping everything and ssh and other protocols work just fine. Here is the output of my /etc/resolv.conf file (Comcast)

Ubuntu Networking :: Some Webpages Won't Load 11.04?

Apr 28, 2011

I had actually the same problem in 10.10, but I was patiently hoping that 11.04 will fix it for me. At the moment it's facebook(nothing will load) and lifehacker(mainpage will load, but further on no news will load) First of it loads facebook after fresh install, but when i closed firefox, and reopened it, it won't load. I pinged facebook.com and it's working:S Chrome for instance loaded facebook atm, but didnt load lifehacker news aswell. Altho Windows on same machine will do it perfectly. I would like to use 100% ubuntu, but its not possible if some essential webpages won't load

Debian :: Webpages Doesn't Load?

Apr 1, 2011

I use Debian 6. I noticed that when ever I try to open certain websites, the pages doesn't load at all. This happens when I try to open [URL] and certain other web pages. Browsers like chrome, epiphany, iceweasel, opera all had the same issue. The download speed is pretty normal. note that disabling ipv6 inside the browser configuration didn't help fight this issue.

Fedora Networking :: Webpages Won't Load ?

Jan 20, 2011

The wired internet connection for my notebook works fine after starting up Fedora. Webpages load quickly. But if I close the notebook for as little as 10 minutes, webpages won't load at all, even though NetworkManager still shows that there's an internet connection.

Disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't fix the problem, and neither does logging out and logging back in. Restarting the computer does fix the problem. This problem doesn't occur with Windows 7 on the same machine.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Looks Fine But Webpages Won't Load

May 4, 2010

I haven't used linux in years, but decided to try out Ubuntu. I'm a total newb at this but it has been pretty easy to transition over from Vista. I have had no problem with it for months, and then all of a sudden my internet doesn't work. It says that it is connected to my router but i can't connect to the internet. Typical troubleshooting has not helped. Most advice I have gotten was to try installing the NDISwrapper, but Ubuntu won't let me install it without internet access (that, or the package I tried to use from my USB is messed up??).

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connecting, But No Webpages Load?

Feb 22, 2011

So last night I decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 using the WUBI installer, everything went well and it installed, but there was one problem. I didn't have any wireless networking options, so I scavenged this forum using google and came across on how to fix it using System -> Adminstrator -> Additional Drivers. I reset my laptop(Dell Inspiron 14R N4010 I believe) and to my success, I was able to join my network. So I took out the cable(The wired connection has worked since fresh install) and it didn't work... I updated using Synaptic Package Manager and restarted, hoping it would work, but it didn't.

Debian :: Konqeror - Make It Load Webpages Faster?

Apr 29, 2010

I put the KDE NOIPV6 in the /etc/environment file, but nothing happened it seems.

The problem = Midori / other browsers are too unstable with Flash; but Konqueror is lightning-fast with Flash and apparently takes up the least resources too. But the problem with that is, the aforementioned 20 seconds to 2 minute web page load time, even though I have 5-8 MBps cable Internet.

Midori is a little slow too to load web pages, now that I think about it, but faster once I have first visited a domain.

Ubuntu :: WebPages Not Compatible With Firefox

Jul 13, 2011

I just recently had to have Ubuntu installed on my computer, and of course, the Web Browser they put on here is Firefox, which I love, however...... Before I had Ubuntu, I had Windows, but due to a problem with a nasty virus, and then not having the original product code for Windows, I couldn't get Windows back on my computer so they put lovely Ubuntu on it. Now, I am a Manager at a hotel, and I have to be able to view my hotel security cameras from home when I am not at work. It is an IP web address and it is not compatible with Firefox. My question is this. Is there any plugin out there that would make webpages that are non compatible with Firefox able to be viewed?

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 X64 Webpages Load 5x Slower On Eth0 Than Wlan0?

Jan 8, 2010

currently on an acer aspire 5532, and using mozilla and google chrome. webpages take about 10-12 seconds to load using the ethernet, wifi its about 2-3 seconds. using eth0 loading videos - broadcast yourself. in chrome, will sit at "resolving host" for about 10 seconds before bringing up the page. you would think eth0 is faster than wlan0, but for browsing the web its slower. i tested the speeds at speedtest.net - the global broadband speed test and both wlan0 and eth0 get the max speed my internet provides.i never downloaded drivers for the ethernet card or wifi, they worked so i didn't try to mess with them. but perhaps that is my problem?

Ubuntu :: Programs Fail To Redirect Firefox To Webpages?

Apr 19, 2011

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, I have this problem where programs to redirect me to webpages. It just loads up my home page and acts like it's finished. Even if I have Firefox previously open, nothing happens.Programs this happens with are Apport (when I try to file bug-reports), Tomboy (if I click "get add-ins"), and Liferea until I edited a setting telling it not to use the default gnome browser but to use Firefox.I know the first thing you'd think hearing that is that my web browser isn't set in my gnome default applications, but it is. When I open firefox in terminal this error pops up

Ubuntu :: Firefox Won't Redirect To Webpages From Bug Report & Others (11.04 Natty Narwhal)

Apr 6, 2011

I think from upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. Whenever programs ask me to send reports (bug reports) they fail to redirect me to the proper launch pad bug report page. It just loads up my home page and acts like it's finished. Even if I have Firefox previously open, nothing happens.

Liferea was doing the same thing until I changed it from using the Gnome Default to Firefox. Perhaps this is a gnome default failure or something?

Slackware :: Firefox Default Fonts Will Not Display On Webpages?

Feb 12, 2010

Recently I was creating an image in GIMP when I needed to add a new font. I went to my mounted XP drive and copied the file I wanted over into /usr/X11R6/share/fonts/TTF then I went to the font installer as root and installed the font system wide. After that I reloaded GIMP and the font was available. A little while later I went to browse the internet and when I loaded up firefox, it showed a properly formatted and spaced page with no text on it at all. If I highlighted a line, the invisible text would copy to the clipboard properly and I could read it that way. I figured it might've been a just a FF issue, but when I loaded up Seamonkey, I wound up with the same problem. I'm using Firefox 3.0.16 and Seamonkey 2.0.1. I tried going into the preferences and changing the default font, but no matter what I change it to, it doesn't fix it. Slack 1.2 running kernel 2.6.27.31-smp. I use slapt-get to stay up to date and as far as I can tell i have the latest patches and pkgs.

Code:

bash-3.1$ fc-cache -rv
/usr/share/fonts/OTF: caching, new cache contents: 23 fonts, 0 dirs
/usr/share/fonts/TTF: caching, new cache contents: 91 fonts, 0 dirs

Ubuntu :: Getting Firefox To Load All Favicons?

I can't stand it when my bookmarks (especially on the toolbar) have the default icon. Is there any way (whether via extension or otherwise) to load up the favicons for all bookmarks? The only extensions of the sort I've found let you manually add favicons but obviously that's a huge pain for several hundred bookmarks.

Ubuntu :: Firefox Can't Load Web Pages?

May 17, 2010

Out of no where Firefox has just decided to not load web pages anymore. I've restarted my router, restarted my wifi card, restarted my computer, *completly* uninstalled Firefox then reinstalled it, still no luck at all. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I'm stuck using Google Chrome now, I like it but I need the Add-Ons FireFox has (AdBlock Plus, Xmarks, DownThemAll, etc.)

Here are my specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 64bit
Acer Aspire 3680
Intel Celeron M 1.6GHz Single Core
1GiB RAM
40GiB Hard Drive

Basically all it does is sit there saying "Connecting to www.google.com..." for like 15seconds then gives me one of two pages, "The connection has timed out - The server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond." or "Unable to connect - Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com."Google Chrome, Skype, Ubuntu's built in messenger, System Update, and so on connect just fine to the internet.

Ubuntu :: Firefox Won't Load NY Times Pages / Solution For This?

Oct 23, 2010

I have an odd problem loading certain webpages (not all) from the New York Times in Firefox.

If I try to load this for instance:http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/1...-shoes-or-not/
the page will not load and I see the text "Waiting for graphics8.nytimes.com..." in the status bar.

I did a complete reinstallation of Firefox and it worked fine (yesterday). Today the problem is back again.

I tried the page on a friend's computer also running Firefox in Ubuntu and it worked fine.

I tried it in Windows Firefox and it worked fine.

I have the same add-ons/extensions in Windows as I have in Ubuntu and, in any case, I have removed them all once and tried the page with the same non-result. I also noted that the same thing happens if I try to load the page in Google Chrome in Ubuntu.

Software :: Firefox Just Won't Load On OpenSUSE 11.4

May 22, 2011

Everything on this computer is running perfectly except Firefox. I have Chrome, Opera, Konqureor, all working; however Firefox just won't load. It was working fine after initial install (4.0b12), but after update to 4.0.1 from the update repository, it stopped working. Seeking into ~/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports and I can't make any sense of it. Loading firefox at the console imediately fails and returns no error, and as far as I can see, there is no verbose mode. Same happens with safe mode and any other argument flags allowed. I downgraded back to 4.0b12, didn't work. I downgraded to 3.6.x, didn't work. I updated to 5.0 beta nightly build, didn't work. Moved over to 4.0.1 32 bit version and it DID work. So I am fairly certain that it has to do with one of its many 64 bit library dependencies.
