I have a strange problem which I've encountered for a long time but still weren't able to solve it. In openoffice writer, when clicking on extra->literature database the program immediately crashes. I encounter this problem with all the latest versions of Oo (3.2,3.1...) and on OpenSuse and on Kubuntu, so I guess it must be a widespread problem.
View 3 RepliesI have OO.o 3.1.1.4 installed on my SuSE 11.2 system. (It came with it.)I've tried connecting to my older OO.o address book database and it seems to have connected (I get no error messages) but when I try to open the database source from within Writer, or any other OO.o tool (either by pressing F4 or going to View > Data Sources) OpenOffice crashes. I can open my database as an .ods or a .dbf or .odb.When I open it as an .odb, I end up with some sort of form wizard designer. All looks ok, the table is there (and it looks good!) but then what? If I close that wizard, the table then closes with it.
I've also used File > Templates > Address Book Source. After using that, if I hit F4, OOo crashes.My main problem is that OO.o crashes when I try to view the database source from within a document.P.S. I do have Java (Sun's version of Java 1.6.0) installed and OO.o seems to know it's there and is registered.
Every couple of hours OOo Base crashes - just closes the program of its' own accord.
Annoying enough in itself, but at least it usually recovers up to the last point I saved my work. The last time it happened though it didn't even recover to my last save point - it recovered to an old save point! So I have lost 30 minutes' work.
Recently OpenOffice has started crashing on me when loading the program. The splash screen will appear for a moment then the KDE crash handler comes up. Here's what I get when launching from the console:

I've tried deleting the .ooo3 directory in my home directory but that doesn't seem to help. Also, I'm running with Sun's JDK in case that makes any difference. I know that OpenOffice was working fine for me immediately after my fresh install of 11.3. I only use OpenOffice once every couple of weeks so I'm not sure if there was a specific update or anything that broke things for me.
When I've installed openSUSE 11.3, OpenOffice was asking me to install JRE, and I did it. However, next time i run it, it crashed without any error log. When I run it again, it sad a couple of time that JRE is defective, and asked me to reinstall it again. Eons passed, but my patience was rewarded. OpenOffice.org Impress was up. but just for a few seconds. Then it crashed again, and left no signs of life. I've repeated the same cycle few times... Then I decided to search for a solution, and read topics where similar problems were discussed. One solution was to expand my swap memory, and the another one was to install an older version of OO. I wasn't very eager to install an older version of OO, so I tried to expand swap memory by cutting memory from the other partitions. I found reference that swap memory should be twice bigger than RAM. Since i have 512 + 256 MB RAM, I've typed 1536 MB as a new value for swap memory. Error appeared that value of swap memory must be between 42MB and 684MB. I'm not sure about the second number, but it was between 600 and 700... I must get OpenOffice.org working as soon as possible, because it's very important for my work. I'm running 64bit openSUSE 11.3 on AMD Sempron 2800+ with 768MB RAM using OpenOffice 3.2.1.4-1.2 and java-1_6_0-sun

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a native 64 bit 11.3 system with vmware 7.0x as an application. I have installed a win 7 guest which works fine 99% of the time. But if I try to plug usb headphones into my system after I boot win 7, it will crash entire system, but if I plug headphones into system before loading vmware, this does not happen. Is this a kernel issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently on vacation, and noted that the kdenlive version on my laptop (running 64-bit openSUSE-11.3 with KDE-4.4.4) will crash when loading a kdenlive file that has an audio track previously saved.
ie one can no longer reload a project, after saving it, if one has an audio track in the project.
I note my desktop (just before I went on vacation) did not have this behaviour. Has anyone else encountered this?
When I get back from vacation, I'll compare the packages between the two (ie between laptop and desktop). I note these packages on my laptop, which may or may not be relevant.

Whenever I used "Ctrl+S", "Ctrl+O", or any other keyboard command that opens a KDE FileDialog, OpenOffice crashes every time. OpenOffice produces the dialog closes it and produces another two and then crashes. This happens from every OpenOffice program. As I have been learning it, I have put together a dictionary, which I made as an openoffice database, so I could search and edit as necessary. Unfortunately, it now has several thousand entries and grinds to a complete halt if I try and search it. For now I have exported the data into a pdf which means I can look words up, but it doesn'tan alternative programme which would cope better with this much data and be easy to set up? Ideally one I can export my current data into.

But I press the test button, I receive an error: JDBC Driver can't be loaded (really, the message is in spanish).
I've installed OpenOffice 3.2.1 on Linux s390x System z server after downloading the OOo_3.2.1_Linux_S390X_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz file from [URL].. I installed it using the following command rpm -ihv *.rpm. Now everything installs successfully with no errors. But when I cd /opt/openoffice.org3/program and type in soffice to start OpenOffice I see the splash screen for a second, the loading bar moving to around 33% before it crashes and shuts down with no errors or exceptions. I am trying to start OpenOffice Base (3.2.0) but it keeps crashing once I begin to edit a new data base. Calc, Writer and Impress work fine.

I have the problem that whenever I write something it freezes up the window, my processor use rise to 100% and then it crash showing the OpenOffice.org crash-screen. This only happens in Writer and not Spreadsheets, Presentation refuses to start.

Normally phpMyAdmin loads properly, but the other day I created a large database of 6,000+ tables and 1.3 GB of data in the entire database. Now phpMyAdmin loads and shows my different databases, but if I try to open the new large database, it just loads a white page with no content. Does anyone know if I can reconfigure my server so it will be able to show parts of the database?

If I try to open one of these files in openOffice for Lucid, it causes OpenOffice to freeze every time. If I save the files in OpenOffice format and share them between Maverick and Lucid - everything works fine. Anyone know what might be causing OpenOffice in Lucid to freeze when loading word 97/2000 files?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI use to use amarok a lot back in the day and loved it. Saw that I could install it on ubuntu (which was a great suprise, since I though amarok was a KDE application).
Anyways, EVERY time I load amarok, I see it pop up for about 1 or 2 seconds and then my xserver (is that what it is called? the GUI portion of linux) crashes and restarts. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Open amarok, xserver crashes and restarts.
I'm Dual-booting XP with Ubuntu Karmic Koala, heres my other specs:
CPU: Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz family(15) model(4) stepping(4)
GFX: Geforce 7800 GT (had problems with GFX when I first installed Ubuntu, I had to update my drivers)
2 GB RAM
This is a nearly fresh install of Karmic Koala, I've only installed whatever updates I needed, graphics card drivers, KPlayer, and Google Chrome. Because I prefer Chrome over Firefox I immediately went to download Chrome, and Firefox would get to the Chrome page and then crash. I then got the Chrome install file from another computer and installed it. Chrome will not even launch, so I go to search the problem in Firefox and it crashes on ANY link I click in Google Search. I also tried to directly type websites into the URL box: it loads the pages title (Ex. "Yahoo! Mail"), and crashes before displaying the page at all.
This is a very odd problem to me as I used the same disc to install dual-boot with Win7 and Ubuntu on my laptop which works perfectly, and now this happens to my desktop.
Upon loading the music store in rythmbox it crashes the program. Probably not the best way to start off the new endeavor.

I installed openoffice 3.0 from openoffice site (www.openoffice.org) in my Fedora Core 6 OS computer. However, while doing that I might have made some mistakes. I removed openoffice 2.4 and 2.0 by using openoffice uninstall. In fact, couple of occasions, I have uninstalled and again fresh installed openoffice 3.0 when I noticed that moment I pressed any key, the program crashes. I have by mistaken the script ooffice, thinking that it would automatically install a new one. But there is no ooffice. I have to call soffice for that.

According to my coworkers this thing boot some version of debian about two years ago. currently I have used there old image and a new one I made of the latest Debian stable build. both images fail to get passed grub.
to be clear the BIOS simply replies "loading grub" takes ten minutes and then crashes.
has anyone ever had trouble with grub crashing systems? this problem seems odd since is did boot with this two years ago and i still have that image.

am using zabbix open source solution for systems monitoring. Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.
i've updated to oo 3.2.1 in 11.2 (64 bit) by deleting all previous oo packages and installing new. exporting (for example from draw) only gives the option of pdf. no jpeg etc.something's obviously missing but i can't find it. this has been posted back in 2009.
