I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.3 x86_64 on my dual core AMD box. Everything seems to run great except for OpenOffice Spreadsheet. Whenever I attempt to open a spreadsheet it crashes on me.
For a couple of weeks, I have had constant crashes of all my applications on Lucid:Thunderbird 3.1 (updated since crashing started using Ubuntuzilla)Firefox 3.6.6 (updated since crashing started using Ubuntuzilla) - also crashes in safe mode OpenOffice 3.2 Opera 9.63 Most frequently it is Firefox and Thunderbird crashing, because they're the applications I use most. (Also F-Spot has crashed, but F-Spot frequently crashed before all this, so may not be related).
Sometimes applications will run for a few hours and then crash (either suddenly close or freeze, it varies). Other times the application crashes before it even opens, and I just get the Mozilla crash reporter. If an application won't start at all, it will usually start if I restart the computer, but may crash again soon afterwards. There is no obvious pattern to when it crashes - sometimes on starting, sometimes when I click something, sometimes when I'm not even at the computer and I just come back to find it crashed.
My husband (a programmer) has run Memtest on my machine, which found no problems. He is also running lucid on the same hardware apart from the monitors, and has the same versions of OpenOffice, Thunderbird and Firefox except for extensions, but has not any problems. A warning that shows on the terminal if Firefox crashes in safe mode, is:
WARNING: pipe error: Broken pipe: file /builds/slave/linux_build/build/ipc/chromium/src/chrome/common/ipc_channel_posix.cc, line 627 WARNING: pipe error (3): Connection reset by peer: file /builds/slave/linux_build/build/ipc/chromium/src/chrome/common/ipc_channel_posix.cc, line 404
This is strange because I did not, when that warning first appeared, have Chromium installed (although I did have Picasa). My husband installed Chromium on my machine after seeing the warning and Chromium is running okay so far but other applications are still crashing.
I've installed quantum GIS on opensuse 11.3 gnome, so far so good. I run the app and it opens fine. To get the app to use data on the HD you get a dialogue box with a browse button. It should just be a case of clicking browse and selecting the required data file. Unfortunately when I click on browse the app crashes. I've no idea how to get info about the crash in an attempt to solve the problem. Had a similar problem with gimp in suse 11 kde could only fix it by updating the os to 11.3.
Anybody knows a bluetooth application that works? Not like kbluetooth/KDE 3 that crashes anytime I run it. And where I can found it! (I need this to put some files on my mobile phone).
OpenSuse 11.4, 64-bit, using LXDE (but with KDE also installed. The system updated Firefox to version 6 yesterday, but now Firefox keeps crashing.I don't see anything in any logs, nor is there anything in the ~/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports directory. When I restart Firefox, sometimes it asks if I want to restart the lost sessions, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I have Firefox in the background, and I'm not even using it, and it will crash. Is there some other information I could grab? GPU Accelerated Windows 0/1. Blocked for your graphics driver version. Try updating your graphics driver to version <NOT Gallium> or newer.
I'm trying to install a language-pack for my OpenOffice, but there seems to be a dependency-problem. Maybe someone has a suggestion. FC12, x64 OOo.x64 3.1.1
I'm currently running openSUSE 11.3 x86_64 I've avant-window-navigator and awn-extras both 0.4.0-1.2python-awn and vala-awn are installedalmost all applets that I'm adding crash with "Whoops! The applet crashed. Click to restart it."what's still missingthe error-message, btw, is:
avant-window-navigator Screen is composited ** (avant-window-navigator:25211): DEBUG: Updating dialog colours
Dolphin crashes when previewing PNG files - with other image files (PS, PDF, JPG, DVI) when you roll the mouse over the file you get a preview pic in the top right corner - when I roll it over a PNG file, it halts for a second then crashes.
now I got a problem with kopete.. before this I'm using OpenSuSE 11.2 .. there are no problem at all... after i do the the upgrade to 11.3 and there is one issue .. always crash after I put the status ONLINE.. What should I do? a snapshot screen after I click ONLINE...
I'm trying to figure out why firefox and thunderbird keep crashing on me. I just installed Suse 11.3 64-bit with Gnome 2.30.0. I am using firefox version 3.6.12 and thunderbird version 3.1.6. They crash half of the time when something has to load, such as an attachment or download. Is there anything I can do about this?
I'm having an issue my suse 11.3 just freezes out of no where several times during the day. this is the out put of /var/log/messages right before it freezes I have many of this:
Dec 8 21:48:03 linux-md1h kernel: [ 30.889715] [drm:drm_edid_is_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 1 Dec 8 21:48:03 linux-md1h kernel: [ 30.889716] [drm:drm_edid_is_valid] *ERROR* Raw
I have a problem with amarok crashing all the time almost, at then end using 'strace amarok' from console allowed to open it. Is there a way to solve this ? (contact distribution packagers) : details provided here Amarok 2.4 is crashing at each start - KDE Community Forums
I can use Konqueror to browse my filesystem but not the web. One of two things happens: 1) Either it just crashes, or 2) it displays an "Operation could not be completed" error page. The former occurs if I type something into the address bar that may require some guesswork, like yahoo.com, and in this case I may get a chance to restart the session. The latter occurs if I type a complete url like [URL]... or if I type a term in the google search box. It suggests disabling the firewall; I have, to no avail. Same thing happens with rekonq but not with epiphany or firefox or chrome. I use openSUSE 11.4 with KDE 4.7. This problem occurred after upgrading to 4.7 - not sure if it was immediate upon upgrade - but before recent issues with the R47 repo. Of course, hoping to fix Konqueror, I updated all of my R47 packages and got caught up in the black screen problem, but now that's resolved and Konqueror still crashes.
I like Chrome but want Konqueror as a backup, no need to install other browsers as long as it works, but I suppose that's the alternative. Downgrading Konqueror would downgrade its library and dolphin as well; I'd rather avoid that, as I had a weird issue with my mouse getting "trapped" in an app in 4.6 - I could still work inside that app, but clicks did not register in other apps or plasma generally, such as the start menu or the "x" button to close the app in question on its own window decoration. This issue has not recurred in 4.7, so I'd rather keep the version than keep Konqueror if it comes to that.
ok, here we go. updated last week from opensuse 11.3 to 11.4 via upgrade process.
everything is fine except that every day i wake up and sit down at the computer and go through my twitter, rss, etc., and end up going to videos or some other web site to play something - and there's no sound. sometimes there's also no sound in kaffeine.
so the first time this happened, i did some research, downloaded the s.t.a.r.t. script (which includes running the alsa-info script), and ran it, capturing all the info and put it in a text file which you can see here:
richard hack audio specs - pastebin.com
running rcalsasound restart usually crashes the flash player in my firefox 3.6.16. reloading the page then restores the sound.
in one case, closing and restarting kaffeine restored the sound.
but in every case, the next day, for three days now, as soon as i sit down at the computer, the sound is dead again.
Firefox keeps crashing when I try to play video. It used to crash when I used old version 3.0 and it still crashes now in the 3.5 version.
It doesn't seem to have been a hard drive problem..I have enough space and memory.
With regard to addons, I have java and shockwave flash...and an addon for weather....though i have noticed it used to crash before I had installed any of those..
I have done a bit of research on WineHQ and other places, but cannot seem to get Office to install. I am running openSUSE 11.2 and from what I have read, Office should install and run without issue. I have a relatively fresh install, but had added the winetricks (with lots of errors and no success) and then afterward uninstalled wine and reinstalled. (I hope that makes sense). After installing Wine the first time, I could get to about 2/3 installed before wine crashed. Now after the reinstall It crashes almost immediately after the install process begins.
There's just one minor glitch - everytime I log in after reboot, the plasma desktop crashes right at the beginning - a window appears saying something like "The desktop process unexpectedly quit" ( I have a polish version, don't know the exact translation ) and leaves me with a big red button in the middle of the screen ( but the system seems to be fully functional ). When I log out and log back in without rebooting everything works just fine. The error is 100% reproducible. On the other hand - if I log into runlevel 3 first and then start the X manually, then there's no error.
GNOME 3 issues, I got everything figured out and was trying to get some extensions installed. I successfully installed the alternative shutdown menu and the applications menu. I tried to install alternate-tab and user-theme and they both caused gnome3 to boot into IceWM...I removed all the folders from /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions and home/<user>/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions and it fixed it. I read somewhere about them being outdated if a GNOME 3 update was released.
The two extensions I did install were from New GNOME Shell Extensions That Provide A GNOME2-Like User Experience ~ Web Upd8: Ubuntu / Linux blog and not the GNOME 3 website. The extensions that crashed GNOME were from all over, INCLUDING the GNOME website. I'd like to get the system monitor and a weather applet in the panel and the alternate-tab and change themes but I can't find any that work. [URL]. I tried to use the themeselector extension from here and I think another one or two, however, they were also a few that crashed my GNOME...
Running openSuSE 11.3 w/ a KDE 4.x desktop. Every time I'm using KTorrent, when I come back into the office and "wake" the monitor, I find KTorrent has crashed and I have to restart it. So I'm guessing that KTorrent is crashing either when my monitor goes to sleep mode or when I'm waking it up. I've tried changing some settings but when the system is running, I cannot seem to access the monitor control panel. Pressing the menu button on the side of the monitor does not bring up the monitor menu. There used to be an easily noticed "Desktop Settings" in KDE 3 but I'm not finding the equivalent in KDE 4. How to keep this Samsung SyncMaster 997DF 19" CRT from going into sleep mode?
I've had problems with Amarok crashing so I reinstalled. I think its the Nvidia Driver, so I read on another thread. I tried the uninstall and init 3 thing and needed gcc and a few more files that were not installed. In the end I had enough and reinstalled. Now Amarok runs. If I install the nvidia driver I have an idea that it will crash like Ayrton Senna, or maybe quicker. so is there a simple work around.
I am running OpenSuse 11.3, I have Banshee 1.8.0 and I want to use it to manage my music but now it's crashing as it starts up. I had just moved all my music to the computer and banshee had just scanned it into the library and then it crashed, and now it crashes every time I try to run it. I have been using OpenSuse for the last couple years but I am still a novice when it comes to the command line and debugging.
I have an nfs share that mounts automatically when kde starts.
Code:
wendy@DellNB:~$ cat .kde/Autostart/mountNAS.sh #!/bin/bash mount ~/TestShare #echo "NAS Mounted"
[code]...
Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.
I've experienced some problems with Dolphin. It crashed a lot, so hard that I've to reset the machine. I have a Vaio VGN SZ 750. Since OpenSUSE 11.1 it used to fail responding, or when I have to move a lot of files, it starts to slow the machine until I have to turn off or restart. I really don't like it as I like Konqueror, so I'd like to know if I can uninstall Dolphin and use konqueror as default. Can I use the camera, the digital-"reader" and the Nvidia card of my laptop? Any link?
i've been using ubuntu on my laptop for about a year now, but couldn't use linux on my desktop as my wireless adapter was never very well supported. well recently it's started working better, and rather than just putting ubuntu on i thought i'd try something different. i tried various kde based distros (madriva, fedora kde, kubuntu, chakra and others i can't think of right now) and found opensuse to be my favourite.the past week or so i've just been playing around, getting to know the little differences.i'm on call this weekend so i can't get drunk, so i thought i would waste a little time setting my desktop up a bit differently, and i've encountered a problem.
at first i wasn't sure what was wrong, i was playing around and next thing i knew i had crashed and couldn't log back in. i tried moving my .kde4 dir from a console login, but i still couldn't load my desktop, so i reinstalled.after my reinstall, i found that selecting a gl screensaver gave me the same problem (although this time at least moving/deleting my .kde4 folder allowed me to log in to a fresh desktop.i've done a bit of digging and found this. an lsmod | grep radeon gives me
