OpenSUSE Hardware :: Multiple Errors When Trying To Start Ntfs Config

May 27, 2011

First of all, ntfs-config does not appear in the menu in openSUSE 11.4 Gnome 2.32. When I try to start it using the run command(Alt + F2) it gives the following error in a small window: Insufficient Rights. You need administrative rights to start this application. I then try to run it as root (su -l or su) and it gives the following error:

All these packages and others are already installed in my computer.

Ubuntu :: Ubuntu 9.10 + NTFS-Config And Files Missing From NTFS Partition?

Apr 22, 2010

First off let me say that I love working with Ubuntu. It's a great OS to learn Linux on. Now on to my problem. I have a laptop that dual boots. Ubuntu 9.10 x64 and Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Been working just fine. I was using NTFS-Config to auto mount the Win7 partition during startup of Ubuntu. It has been running fine. I am able to move files between the linux partition and the NTFS partition with no problem. Now I've come across a problem. I big problem. Just this week I installed VirtualBox onto Ubuntu. I started creating virtual machines. 6 in all (3 Win 2k3, 1 2k8 and 1 Win7). I was saving the virtual machines to the NTFS drive as this was by far my largest drive. I used a directory titled "virtualbox" under the c:/users/public directory. This setup was working great. Was able to get my vm's patched and up to date. Created several snapshots. Basically I was a happy camper.

Last night I booted into Windows 7. OS started fine. I was just surfing the web. After that I rebooted the system and entered Ubuntu and started Virtualbox. I tried to start a vm and it complained that the virtual harddrive was missing. I checked to make sure that the path was correct for the virtual drive and discovered that the entire virtualbox directory that I created on the NTFS partion was gone!!! Everything else was in place and intact including music and large video files that I had downloaded to the Ubuntu partion and moved the the NTFS partion.

I save these virtual machines???? Should I abandon using NTFS-Config. This is somewhat critical since I had took sometime to create this test lab and to have it disappear from simply booting into Windows 7 is crazy.

Fedora :: NTFS - Config Tool Will Not Open And Gives Error

Sep 10, 2009

When logged in as my standard user in Fedora 11 gnome desktop the installed ntfs-config tool will not open and gives an error which says this; "no authentication program found", and to run that ntfs-config as the root in a terminal. So then the only way to open that tool is to type that in a terminal, and it did open, but how can I fix this ? Can this issue be related to ownership and permissions of it ? Also the num lock does not come on during boot up, is there a easy fix for that too ? This is a recent fresh updated install from the DVD with the ext4 file system. All the ntfs-3g applications are installed as default, so I just added that enable ntfs write support tool with the package manager.

Ubuntu :: Reinstall The FTP Servers They Won't Start Because The Config Files Are Gone?

Mar 31, 2010

I built out a headless VMWare v2.0.2 Server. I managed to work all that out but now I'm having some trouble getting my virtual machines on the server. I installed both proftpd and vsftpd but neither server lets me log in. 'Login Failed' is always returned (using the only account on the machine - created during the install).

So I decided to install samba, but samba chokes on large files. I tried over and over again to copy a 10GB VMDK file over samba and it gets to 5% or so and suddenly tells me there is a network problem and dies (which there is no network problem as these machines are all on the same subnet plugged into the same gigabit switch).

So now I'm back to FTP. Unfortunately when I ran apt-get remove proftpd, it didn't remove any of the config files (/etc/proftpd/*) so I manually deleted them. Now when I try to reinstall the FTP servers they won't start because the config files are gone. What's the apt-get syntax to completely uninstall these servers as if they had never been installed so I can start clean? I really don't want to have to do a complete system re-install just to fix 300KB FTP servers.

Ubuntu Networking :: Clean Start With Wireless Config ?

Apr 30, 2010

I had put in a broadcom 4318 (airforce) card and it showed up in network tools as wlan6 with multicast disabled, inactive, and etc. the bf cutter tool also showed up in hardware drivers.

However, after trying to get the card functional - it no longer shows up in network tools nor is bf cutter in the hardware section.

I tried installing broadcom's proprietary driver among some other solutions. I'm running karmic 9.10.

How to start with a clean slate and get my wlan6 to appear again, so I can install this proprietary driver or use driverloader?

Mar 19, 2010

i want to mount at kubuntu startup some ntfs drives now, i have, on dolphin, to click the ntfs partitions to mount them and after doing that, this lines are included on /etc/mtab

/dev/sda1 /media/WD10EADS fuseblk rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096 0 0
/dev/sdc3 /media/DATOS fuseblk rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096 0 0

/dev/sdd2 /media/SEAGATE-1 fuseblk rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096 0 0

but when i add that lines to /etc/fstab and reboot, i can't access the ntfs drives. dolphin says than only "root" can mount /dev/sda1 on /media/WD10EADS (for example) i tried this too:

Ubuntu Servers :: Config - Change / Add From The Default OpenSSH Config Files To Get Tunnelling To Work?

Jul 10, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:

Code: ssh -ND localhost:8080 george@ I had it all working on a virtual machine.. which was deleted What settings/lines do I need to change/add from the default OpenSSH config files to get tunnelling to work? I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.

Slackware :: How To Save Needed Modules Config To Create .config?

Apr 9, 2011

I am running a server with a GRSecurity patched Kernel I've tried to optimize the kernel as much as I can and know it (removing options, not needed drivers and so on) and compiled the modules into the kernel (no loadable modules anymore). I've started with Slackware 13.0 and the default config for Still I am not sure what to remove/optimize further now.

My question: Is there a way to boot with a kernel with loadable modules, check which modules are really needed for this hardware, (do something like lsmod) and save the running configuration modules for a next kernel compile to be the default .config instead of writing them down by hand and search for the appropriate names in .config or during menuconfig? (Note: zcat /proc/config.gz > .config is NOT the way I want, as it gives me just the current kernel config)

Ubuntu :: Unable To Install Firefox Extension If Profile Is On NTFS (NTFS-3g) Volume?

Jul 16, 2010

Reproducible with Firefox 3.6.6 (installed from Ubuntu 10.04 repository), on Dell D620, Ubuntu 10.04 Steps to reproduce:

1) start Firefox from command line "firefox -P"

2) create new Firefox profile on NTFS volume (mounted with NTFS-3g)

3) add NoScript extension (through extension manager Get Add-ons), restart Firefox as suggested

4) extension is not added to Firefox In case at step 2) profile is created on Linux volume, at 4) extension is added to firefox.I'm not 100% sure, but I think this bug is related to Firefox 3.6 update (no problems with Firefox 3.5). I did not make proper investigation, but I have feeling same problem applies to Thunderbird 3.1.This issue does not allow to share Firefox/Thunderbird profile on dual boot machine (Ubuntu/WindowsXP).

Is there any chance the eID-belgium packages are going to be delivered without hal support / requirement? I can't think of pulling hal back in just for one app.
