There is one more thing that could be related: I've got some touch-buttons to the left of the keyboard that turn wifi and bluetooth on/of. The bluetooth one works, but nothing happens if I press the wifi one.
I also know that this hardware worked on fedora 11 and 12, so it's probably only a matter of settings/additional packages. If you respond, please keep in mind I can't use any internet connection-based commands, as the system doesn't accept the hardware responsible for cable connections either. I can download files if needed.

Apr 28, 2011I'm trying to get my Dell Latitude work with wifi speed >54Mbit/s, and up to now without any success. The router is a Dlink DIR-635, it has 'n' enabled and working (got an apple laptop connecting at 130Mbit/s, can't test the actual throughput though, since it's the only high-speed device).

I'm running 11.4, added the compat-wireless recently to be able to run the newes firmware (iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode , firmware version 8.83.5.1 build 33692), but still all I get is 54Mbit/s. I'd like to know if ANYONE ever got the 802.11n speed on linux, and in particular with these intel cards.
OpenSUSE Wireless :: Can't Connect To AP With Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN Using Supplied Certificates?
Nov 5, 2010I moved to Berlin recently and I got wireless internet through an access point. I'm supposed to use the laptop's built-in wireless netcard to access the internet. This usually works in windows (connection falls out from time to time), but I have yet to make it work in linux. I'm using OpenSuse 11.3 64-bit and the Knetwork manager. Most of the settings in the network manager are correct, but it keeps wanting to use system certificates for the server. By that I mean it keeps checking 'Use CA System certificates'.
So I can't choose the CA-certificate supplied by my internet provider. I keep removing the check-mark and pointing it to the 'hotzoneCA.der' certificate. I also got a 'personal' certificate, in lack of a better word. Its called 'jacob_collstrup.p12'. The Knetwork manager seems to accept the 'jacob_collstrup.p12' certificate, but not the other one.
I just put the certificates in a folder like this /jacob/home/hotzone/zertifikate/ I can see the network fine using the Knetwork manager, and the signal strength seems ok. Not too good, but it shouldn't be a problem. I might have messed up the system, since I first tried this guide, prior to experimenting with Knetwork Manager:

Jan 31, 2011I often use an Ethernet cable to connect my computer to another computer for various purposes. But when I do that, I cannot use the internet even though I'm still connected to a WiFi access point. I'm presuming that's because openSUSE is trying to reach the internet through the Ethernet cable, which has precedence over WiFi.Is there a way to enable internet usage via WiFi while I'm connected to another computer over Ethernet?

Mar 10, 2010I'm running opensuse 11.2 on a Dell laptop with a intel wifi card.
I'm at a hotel with wireless protected by the MAC address. My MAC address is already registered and allowed to connect. However when I connect, the connection hangs just a few minutes and I got disconnected.
I tried to id some problem by scanning it with wireshark, but I did not found anything.
I wonder if there's some kind of MDNS problem...
OpenSUSE Network :: Using WiFi And Ethernet Connections
Feb 5, 2011I've been searching for a couple of hours and have not found any threads that solve my situation... hope I'm not repeating something here.
Setup: Notebook with openSUSE 11.2 using KDE 4. Using Network Manager to manage network connection (although I've tried configuring this using ifup as well with no luck).
I need to be able to connect to client networks via a network cable (Ethernet) and connect to the internet via my MiFi 2200 Mobile WiFi. Both cards/connections are active with the following:
I have no problem mounting drives from the client's network. But, can not reach the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable, the browser will immediately connect to the internet and load web pages.
I'm assuming the ethernet connection is taking precedence over the wireless connection?
I can't imagine that there is not a way to set this up. If Windows can do it, I'm sure openSUSE can!

Aug 11, 2011I Have an HP Pavilion G6. I recently installed openSUSE after having no luck with another linux distribution. I was told openSUSE is more compatible with laptops, so I figured I'd give it a try. I am now facing the same problem I had been facing w/ the other distribution (Ubuntu). My Network Adapter doesn't seem to be recognized by any linux operating systems. It is a Ralink 802.11b/g/n WiFi adapter. When I open the "network" tab, my home wifi is not listed, nor are any around me. In fact, I can't even open the "wireless" tab.
I've installed any recent drivers for my adapter, and I went to extensive lengths to try to solve the issue on my previous linux distribution. I don't know what output to give you from the terminal, nor do I really know any commands to look for anything. On a side note, I had been messing with my touchpad application, trying to set my preferences. I check the boxes for horiz. and vertic. scrolling with two fingers, and apply. They don't work. I check the boxes for using two finger tap to do something, and three finger tap to do something else.

Oct 18, 2010I currently have a WiFi network at home that serves two PC's, a Laptop (all SUSE 11.3) and a couple of WiFi radios. I also use IPCop as the Firewall. The system currently uses 802.11g, but the PC's and Laptop really struggle to achieve any reasonable internet data speeds, particularly as their RF range to the Wireless Router is very disappointing, so I have a couple Wireless Access Points. Unfortunately, whilst these WAPs might slightly improve RF coverage, connecting to the Router via one of them only serves to slow down the internet upload and download speeds even further. (Not much point in paying for expensive 4M internet access if I am only achieving a typical download of 500-600k!)
I want to completely replace my 802.11g with 802.11n - to both improve range and throughput. I'm looking at the 'Netgear Range Max Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router' as this also has 2.4GHz (my WiFI radios are only 2.4GHz compatible). Unless, of course, anyone has any good reason to recommend I DON'T purchase it? My problem is that I am struggling to find up to date, accurate information that can advise me on which 802.11n (2.4GHz and 5GHz) PCI cards, PCMCIA and USB Adapters are compatible with SUSE.

Jun 22, 2010I have a Sony Vaio with built-in WiFi. I deemed the built-in WiFi to be flaky, so I installed a WiFi PC Card.bOpenSUSE 11.2 stock GNOME install out of the box, is there a way to disable just the flaky WiFi interface with Network Manager? It seems I can disable all WiFi or enable all WiFi but not individual interfaces selectively. If I connect to my router, the flaky interface wants to act as the dominant interface and makes my connection slow and unreliable.
I hate to make comparisons with Windows, but it's very obvious how to do it there. Is this something I can do with Network Manager or in GNOME? Or is this something deeper, changing configuration files with a text editor or recompiling kernel?

Jul 27, 2010Running openSuse 11.2-64 on a DualCore / 2Gb machine.I have 3 nfs shares described in my /etc/fstabAll three were mounted at boot time when I was connecting to the network through the wired interface (eth0).I need to use the wireless interface, and even if that interface is up and running well (I use ifup), the nfs client doesn't start... if just after boot I do a mount -a or simply a nfs start, everything comes up and runs well.This machine will not be used by myself, and the users cannot just jump into a command line and type nfs start or even mount -a (they would need su privileges...)I have disabled the eth0, killed the eth0 config (with yast) edited /etc/sysconfig/nfs and setted the NFS_START_SERVICE to yes to force the gssd and idmapd to always start even if there was no nfs entry in fstab, but nothing changed.
