I have a problem: when I log in with my account NetworkManager doesn't connect to my home WiFi connection, cause it wait for authorization. No change if I try to retype the connection password, it still wait for authorization!
View 9 RepliesI have a 3G modem (Sierra Compass 885). When I attached it on my openSuse 11.2, the Network Manager has deteced it. After that, using Network Manager, I configure the connection by filling the Dial number, Username, Password, and IPN. When I click OK the connection status always says "Waiting for authorization" and never connected.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently got a lenovo w510 laptop and I installed openSUSE 11.3 KDE on it. the wireless works fine at home (802.11g WPA2) when I go to work I have tried to set up the wifi for the 802.1X PEAP network but it doesn't look like it even tries to connect.
The work network set up is as follows. non-brodcasting SSID (do I need to tell network manager of this? I manually enter the SSID no problem)

I have verified my username and pw several times, as well as the SSID. Just yesterday I helped a co-worker get on the network under ubuntu and it worked like a charm.
The Hardware profile displays the wifi card as a "WiFi Link 6000 Series" It is an intel card.
I have 2 laptop with opensuse 11.2. One of them is connected to the Internet through a Mobile Connection with a CDMA/EDVO modem on the usb port. I want to share the Internet connection with the other laptop through the WiFi interface of each of them. How should I proceed?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just installed openSUSE 11.3 for the first time on a Dell E1505 notebook and am having problems connecting to my home wireless network. Using the Network Manager I've been able to find my home network and connect after entering the network password. After a minute or two the wireless network is still shown as active but their is no connection (websites will not load).
I'm completely new to Linux so I have almost no clue what could be causing this. I have tried connecting the notebook hardwired (Ethernet) to the router and get a perfect connection if that information helps any.
I was wondering if there's any way for a laptop to be both simultaneously connected to a wireless network, while at the same time acting as an ad-hoc network with local access to serve as a wifi connection for my mobile device, which would be ssh-ing into the laptop and using local resources.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using Ubuntu 10.10 for 2 days and there's one problem left to solve. It cannot connect to my home encrypted wifi but it has no problem connecting to open wifi. I used this site [URL] to change my wifipassword but it still doesn't work. Interestingly my Windows partition connects to it without any change so I don't even know if I'm really changing the password. The router is a Linksys WRT54G2. How can I change the wifi password, know what it is, and make sure Ubuntu knows how to connect to it?

I got my netbook in the mail yesterday, opened it up, logged in, and Windows 7 was installed. Being a Windows hater my whole life, I followed a friend's advice and downloaded Ubuntu netbook, made a USB drive, changed the BIOS settings, all that. Here's when the stupidity occurs--I decided to go ahead and install Ubuntu without trying it, and to delete Windows to do so. A couple minutes later I realized that was a really, really stupid idea, so in a panic I turned my netbook off. I turned it back on and it was still on install but not really moving, so I powered off and on again and went back to the "Try Ubuntu" or "Install Ubuntu" choice screen. I chose "Try Ubuntu" and found that it did not recognize my home wifi network or ask me to join--or any wifi network, for that matter.
Now, it did recognize my wifi network the few minutes I spent on Windows 7, so I tried to change the BIOS settings back to where I could just use that until I figured out the problem. But no matter which setting I tried (HDD/SDD just gives me a black screen, and FDD and LAN do the same as the USB drive), I can't get back to Windows, so I guess I did delete it. Which leaves me with a netbook that can only connect to the internet via ethernet cable. Which kind of defeats the purpose.
Questions I should answer:
1. How am I trying to get online? My home's wireless network. We have a router. All the other laptops in the house connect fine.
2. Who is my internet service provider (and in which country?) COX, United States.
3. Can you get online with any other method? Yes, the internet works fine with an ethernet cable.
4. How am I getting online to post in this forum? My parent's laptop.
5. What hardware are you using? Toshiba N505 netbook and a router. I can give more information about the router if you need it, but I doubt it's the program since the other laptops are fine.
Give me one moment and I will add some code that it gives me when I put in the commands this website tells me to.My two final questions are:
1. Is there any way to recover Windows without buying it again?
2. How can I get Ubuntu to connect to my home wifi network?

I have a DSL brodband connection. The internet connectivity was working fine but lately, I am am facing problems while connecting to internet.Upn connecting the cable to the eth0, the /var/log/messages shows repeated instances of:"kernel:corrupted packets received"Also, if i use pppoe-dicovery, I get " Timeout Waiting for PADO packets" error.There is nothing wrong with the cable. If I connect the cable to a windo$s xp laptop, internet connects fine without any problems.Any idea what could be going wrong? Since the internet was working fine earlier on my opensuse box, im not sure what could have gone wrong with the settings.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI know Windows forward and backward but I am so new to linux it's just wrong. I just installed fedora (like 1hr ago) on and old toshiba laptop with a WiFi PC card. Everything seems to work fine except. My Networks connects to my home Wifi network but it will not connect to internet. When it connects the IP address isn't even close to being in the same range as my other laptops and PCs. Like I said I'm new to linux but I'm wanting to learn. Any fixes for this issue? Which linus book is the best one to read for a beginner? Other then not connecting to internet I have no complaints.

Wifi network operated perfectly with f13. Upgrading f13 to f14 did not show any problems except for networking. It seems that the wlan0-link is not ready. Consequently no network information about adresses can be obtained. Tried with network tools to activate wlan0. No reaction Tried to deactivate Networkmanager and bring network up with
service NetworkManager stop
ifconfig -a
Then
ifconfig wlan0 up
dhclient wlan0
No reaction on network. The NetworkManager icon disappears which is understandable.

A while after this, my WiFi network connection started failing. I've tried rebooting and then it can take up to five minutes or more for the password (keychain) prompt to appear. Once I have typed in the password the network connection starts to work. Then cuts out. Works. Then fails again.

I have a strange problem that I cannot diagnose -- slow wifi. About two or three weeks ago, I noticed that my wifi began to slow down dramatically. The problem is the same on my ubuntu laptop and my ipad. But when I connect directly to the router with a network cable, my connection is fine. So it is definitely a problem with the wifi signal itself.
What I have done so far:
(1) I checked all of the MAC addresses connected to my wifi. I identified my tivo box, laptop, and ipad. Nothing else.
(2) I used [I]wifi analyzer[I] on my android phone and selected an unused wifi channel (channel 8).
(3) I changed the username/password on my wifi signal. I also changed the password for my router's admin privileges.
(4) I restarted my router and computer.
None of this helped.

I'm using Internet connection through local network, receiving white (global) IP, route, DNS with local DHCP server. Lately I noticed that my Ubuntu gets ipv6 autoconfiguration from ISP router, receiving global ipv6 address and automatically adding ipv6 route. I can access Internet resources using ipv6 connection:
I can ping inet resources using my ipv6 global address and access, for example, ipv6.google.com or URL..
How can I share ipv6 connection to my home network? Using ipv4 it's easy, I just can use NAT for this. But if I understand correctly, in ipv6 there isn't such thing as NAT, because there is no limit in ip addresses.
I often use an Ethernet cable to connect my computer to another computer for various purposes. But when I do that, I cannot use the internet even though I'm still connected to a WiFi access point. I'm presuming that's because openSUSE is trying to reach the internet through the Ethernet cable, which has precedence over WiFi.Is there a way to enable internet usage via WiFi while I'm connected to another computer over Ethernet?

View 4 Replies View Relatedim on node1 when i type the command ssh node2@ip the terminal hangs up a bit then an error message stating that connection timeout but here is a thing: i cant ping to node2
but i can terminate the ping manually using ctrl+c when i terminate the ping usual message appears stating 10 packets transmitted, 100% loss
ps: when i go to node3 and ssh to node2 it works fine and also i can ping from node3 to node2 very fine. and the firewalls are down at all nodes -all wired connection over a switch
The WIFI adapter is working, WIN driver is in use (with ndiswrapper). Linux driver doesn't exist. No issues until computer does to Sleep mode. Then just reboot it. Some times iwconfig commands helps.

There is nothing added to my Knetworkmanager, I'm a beginner I should use a pcf file for my vpn connection. I use it properly, I'm sure because the connection starts and an icon is added to my panel and remains until I disconnect.
