I recently installed openSUSE 11.4 and the wi - fi conection doesn't work, but with Ubuntu worked without problem. What can I do to get wi-fi connection working on this distribution again?

I had 10.10, and all was well. Then I installed natty, and WiFi worked for a while, then stopped working. I later went back to 10.10, and WiFi still isn't working. The WiFi icon in the top bar looks like it's scanning. But it just keeps on scanning, continuously. Then it asks me for the password, so it obviously connects to something if it knows the network needs a password.
But here's the weird thing, my router also creates a BT Open Network, which I think is some pay service that BT offer, apparently through anyone's wifi since it's not password protected. I can connect to that. But not the actual network that leads to the internet. This happened a while back, and of course I can't install any updates on it because I can't get online. I am writing this from XP on the same computer, and XP can connect to the network no problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had 11.4/KDE working pretty well on dual boot Asus G73SW for a few weeks now. Only issues were the FN-* functions that control keyboard lights and whatnot but no biggie since the essential worked.The last couple of days the update notification was indicating 1,201 updates to be made. Yeah it seemed extreme but I googled around and checked the forums and there was nothing related. I figured I might be missing some packages since I installed from the live KDE CD (still 1202 updates!!!???). So I updated. Big mistake!!!!! Ever since NetworkManager cannot connect to the internet, be it wired or wireless.
Initially it could not even see my home network but it picked it up after I removed the plasmoid from the panel and reinstalled it. However it doesn't respond when I click the network icon and still no connection.I managed to get eth0 working with ifup but not wifi. The last part of network manager log file is quoted below. I can send the whole thing to whoever is interested. I can't make sense of it but maybe someone on the forums can.

I'm on 11.04, im on a macbook 6,2 i7. The wifi worked when i booted from cd but now it doesnt work once i installed.
I often use an Ethernet cable to connect my computer to another computer for various purposes. But when I do that, I cannot use the internet even though I'm still connected to a WiFi access point. I'm presuming that's because openSUSE is trying to reach the internet through the Ethernet cable, which has precedence over WiFi.Is there a way to enable internet usage via WiFi while I'm connected to another computer over Ethernet?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIve been using fedora 11 fora few months now and suddenly today after I booted up fedora network authentication(the little icon that lets me choose wifi networks) isnt showing up in the upper right hand corner which isnt that big of a problem but the fact that its on start up applications and its not wondering is what Im wondering about but on top of that my internet doesnt work at all.It will work for a little bit after boot then die and when I go to network authentication and network manager no wifi networks show up and I have about 5 around my house not including my own which is also what ive been wondering.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an HP a670y desktop computer using the included wireless antenna (looks like a big Sorry game piece). I am running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 dual booted with Windows Vista x64. I haven't had internet for a while but just got it today and decided to do some updating in both Windows and Ubuntu. It had detected my router and I copied and pasted the WEP key then it asked for my password, but my keyboard wasn't connected so I clicked cancel for the password window and it connected anyway.
I opened the Synaptic package manager and started downloading some updates while I did some browsing on the internet. I had restarted my computer when the updates were done and it asked again for my WEP key. I copied and pasted just as I did before and entered my password and after it tried to connect it asked for my password again. I thought maybe the internet was down so I decided to boot up Windows and it connected right away. I wonder if one of my updates messed something up. Has anyone else had this happen?
getting my wifi to work with opensuse 11.1 and i've tried everthing to get the driver installed.
So far i have downloaded the driver from rallinks website for the RT3090, I have tried to install the .tgz but its doesn't appear to do anything when i run thru the

I have tried to connect by traditional method with YAST, just recognized one network call "Hotel Riga 228", but doesn't connect. Also I have tried to connect with Network Manager but this application doesn't recognize ANY w. network.

I'm at a hotel with wireless protected by the MAC address. My MAC address is already registered and allowed to connect. However when I connect, the connection hangs just a few minutes and I got disconnected.

Setup: Notebook with openSUSE 11.2 using KDE 4. Using Network Manager to manage network connection (although I've tried configuring this using ifup as well with no luck).
I need to be able to connect to client networks via a network cable (Ethernet) and connect to the internet via my MiFi 2200 Mobile WiFi. Both cards/connections are active with the following:
I have no problem mounting drives from the client's network. But, can not reach the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable, the browser will immediately connect to the internet and load web pages.
I'm assuming the ethernet connection is taking precedence over the wireless connection?
I can't imagine that there is not a way to set this up. If Windows can do it, I'm sure openSUSE can!
I Have an HP Pavilion G6. I recently installed openSUSE after having no luck with another linux distribution. I was told openSUSE is more compatible with laptops, so I figured I'd give it a try. I am now facing the same problem I had been facing w/ the other distribution (Ubuntu). My Network Adapter doesn't seem to be recognized by any linux operating systems. It is a Ralink 802.11b/g/n WiFi adapter. When I open the "network" tab, my home wifi is not listed, nor are any around me. In fact, I can't even open the "wireless" tab.
I've installed any recent drivers for my adapter, and I went to extensive lengths to try to solve the issue on my previous linux distribution. I don't know what output to give you from the terminal, nor do I really know any commands to look for anything. On a side note, I had been messing with my touchpad application, trying to set my preferences. I check the boxes for horiz. and vertic. scrolling with two fingers, and apply. They don't work. I check the boxes for using two finger tap to do something, and three finger tap to do something else.
I'm running 64 bit openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. I would like to install Wi Fi Radar. where I can obtain the RPM for it? I have looked but can only find older versions of it for older versions of SUSE..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have a WiFi network at home that serves two PC's, a Laptop (all SUSE 11.3) and a couple of WiFi radios. I also use IPCop as the Firewall. The system currently uses 802.11g, but the PC's and Laptop really struggle to achieve any reasonable internet data speeds, particularly as their RF range to the Wireless Router is very disappointing, so I have a couple Wireless Access Points. Unfortunately, whilst these WAPs might slightly improve RF coverage, connecting to the Router via one of them only serves to slow down the internet upload and download speeds even further. (Not much point in paying for expensive 4M internet access if I am only achieving a typical download of 500-600k!)
I want to completely replace my 802.11g with 802.11n - to both improve range and throughput. I'm looking at the 'Netgear Range Max Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router' as this also has 2.4GHz (my WiFI radios are only 2.4GHz compatible). Unless, of course, anyone has any good reason to recommend I DON'T purchase it? My problem is that I am struggling to find up to date, accurate information that can advise me on which 802.11n (2.4GHz and 5GHz) PCI cards, PCMCIA and USB Adapters are compatible with SUSE.

I deemed the built-in WiFi to be flaky, so I installed a WiFi PC Card.bOpenSUSE 11.2 stock GNOME install out of the box, is there a way to disable just the flaky WiFi interface with Network Manager? It seems I can disable all WiFi or enable all WiFi but not individual interfaces selectively. If I connect to my router, the flaky interface wants to act as the dominant interface and makes my connection slow and unreliable.
I hate to make comparisons with Windows, but it's very obvious how to do it there. Is this something I can do with Network Manager or in GNOME? Or is this something deeper, changing configuration files with a text editor or recompiling kernel?
My WiFi can connect to internet without any problem, until I plug my ethernet cable ...then I lose internet.
So the question is : how do I configure my ip/dns and stuff to still have internet when I'm plugged by cable at the same time! it was working on windows ;-)
Running openSuse 11.2-64 on a DualCore / 2Gb machine.I have 3 nfs shares described in my /etc/fstabAll three were mounted at boot time when I was connecting to the network through the wired interface (eth0).I need to use the wireless interface, and even if that interface is up and running well (I use ifup), the nfs client doesn't start... if just after boot I do a mount -a or simply a nfs start, everything comes up and runs well.This machine will not be used by myself, and the users cannot just jump into a command line and type nfs start or even mount -a (they would need su privileges...)I have disabled the eth0, killed the eth0 config (with yast) edited /etc/sysconfig/nfs and setted the NFS_START_SERVICE to yes to force the gssd and idmapd to always start even if there was no nfs entry in fstab, but nothing changed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running opensuse 11.2 on my Asus 1000H, today I found the new kernel Kernek-Desktop 2.6.31.8 will cause system lock down when I try to connect to any wifi assess point. I updated to 2.6.31.8 from Opensuse-11.2-update days ago and today it's my 1st time to try to connect to wifi with this new kernel.
Downgrade to 2.6.31.5 will solve this problem.
after trying several pci and usb network cards none were able to have their ssid broadcasted. The question that i have is: Can a suse box be converted to act as an acces point without the use of atheros based hardware, without switching over to ubuntu and or debian, without the use of openwrt?
