I have heard the wpa_supplicant in roaming mode, although absent from the various Debian (and Debian-related) forums and wikis, can handle automatic connections to a variety of encrypted and open networks as well as network-manager does... and better when using the MadWifi drivers!

i would like to know how many connections per sec/min/hour, xampp can handle. I'm going to run SMF forum on my box, because i'm not ready yet with real server solution. System stats are: G31M-S2C; 2x2GB Kingston@920Mhz; E5200@3500Mhz; 500GB@7200 Seagate, all powered by Lucid x64. In a time i will migrate to a quad, mobo with raid support, etc. but at that point i'm want to know how much connections can xampp handle. Because of the forum nature, i think of auto deleting topics witn no new replys in 5 days for saving place (there will be minimum 1 and maybe max 5 photos per thread, maximum size 2Mb for each).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm reloading my X301 Lenovo laptop with linux but need to make sure that whatever distro i choose will support displayport out. I'm currently running XP on it and DisplayPort -> HDMI (via converter) -> Sony 40" 1080 TV works great. Just Shift F7 and I'm off and running.
I tried Mint 10 and Debian 6.0.1 last night (via Live DVD) and while they both recognized the displayport, and I could set the resolution on a second monitor to 1920x1080, the output was scaled incorrectly and didn't show any user mouse movements etc... just the wallpaper basically.
I want to share my WiFi internet connection over LAN, so I'm trying to set up IP forwarding. An old tutorial tells me to go to Network Settings in YaST to do this, but that applet says that NetworkManager is now handling all of that stuff.How do I enable IP forwarding while NetworkManager handles my internet connections?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've seen posts revolving around this issue on many different forums but none really have given and answer to the problem that i've seen thus far. so I'm trying to connect to a wireless network with WPA/WPA2 encryption. Every time WICD gets to the point where it searches for a DHCP server but cannot aquire an IP address. This only happens if the network is encrypted though. If I take the encryption of the network I can connect no problem. Looking in the wicd.log file I find a few errors that I have searched for but cannot find any answers.

I'm kind of lost as to why I'm getting the no such file or directory outputs along with the PSK generation failure.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to change the behavior of Network Manager, so that it will only automatically connect to certain wireless networks which I specify, and not automatically connect to others I may have previously used. For example, there are a lot of wifi networks called "linksys", and I don't want the program to automatically try to connect to whichever one it finds.If someone can tell me in which file(s) the list of these connections is stored, I might be able to write a script which will edit that list on startup.

What's happening is there are two gray circles as the wifi attempts to connect. The first one turns green, but it never completes the next step. The syslog shows that it's waiting for the (nonexistent) DHCP server to respond. If I turn on DHCP, the connection completes, but the routing is messed up (because at that point it actually tries to use the static IP from /etc/network/interfaces). So it seems to associate eventually, but it's way too late. I need it to associate soon enough to know not to attempt DHCPDISCOVER.

wireless automatically connects to my home wireless network (linksysn). But suppose I wanted to take this laptop to the coffee house where they have free wifi. I am assuming that my wireless will not automatically connect to any other wifi hotspot except linksysn. So how do i set it up to roam like NM did?

DETAIL- The network name cannot be found. In addition, the user does not have access to any shares by default.
The server can be accessed manually and the user can connect to shares. The server can be pinged by the client. The client's user profiles do not get stored or retrieved on logout/in

I've been at this for hours now and am still not getting it to work. I recently installed Squeeze on my home server, overwriting a Lenny installation. I've been able to add my NT domain accounts back in and pdbedit shows the expeted values - e.g.:

However, although I can log on, I can't get the roaming profiles working. I get the "windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile" message. Since my Unix account names/numbers are the same and the profiles are in the previously working /home folder that didn't get touched, I can't see how it''s a permissions problem. Noneheless, I removed an old profile which should have let WIndows create a new one. It didn't. I still got the same error. I did have to reinstate the groupmaps (don't know why the samba install doesn't do this) but they seem OK.

I have installed ubuntu in automatic mode. when i removed it from computer by removing partition(let E by going to disk management in xp, the portion of drive where the ubuntu was installed automatically get primary partition. then i created the new drive from that partition in XP(let E. Later on when my XP got corrupted and i installed fresh xp then when i tried to access the drive i created(E says the file system not supported need to format the disk.
Also when i tried to install fresh copy of linux in those partition it never get install on those partition.
Now the issue is i cannot use those partiton due to fear that incase windows get corrupted my all data in that partition will be gone. Currently i am not having any linux on computer due to shortage of disk space.
I logged in to Recover Mode ("Drop to root shell prompt") this morning to do something. Naturally, I wanted access to my encrypted home folder.
The README file says to run ecryptfs-mount-private. However, that command returns an error:
"ERROR: Encrypted private directory is not setup properly."
This cannot be correct, because if I log in normally, I get my home folder without any problem.
How can I access my encrypted home folder when I boot via Recover Mode?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have experienced it on pretty much every linux installation I have tried (the ubuntu variants, fedora, opensuse and others). I am a keen shmup player (although not that great of one I will admit), and in almost all of them the controls under linux are unplayable. The game seems to think that I have the up and left arrows constantly pressed.
This happens in native games (Torus Trooper, being the first one I discovered it on), games that I run in WINE, and games through MAME. So far the only shmups that I have been able to get working properly have been the Touhou series (which I get working by selecting the "no directinput" checkbox), and ones running in some emulators.

I don't see any option in the GUI configuration of wicd that is specified in wpa_supplicant.conf and not in the GUI, so it should generate a proper wpa_supplicant.conf.
Are there some more detailed wicd logs? Is there a way to give wicd the wpa_supplicant.conf part for this single essid and let it use the GUI generated one for the others? Where can I see the wpa_supplicant.conf it has generated for a connection?
I just changed the desktop on my thinkpad from awesome to i3. And now I have some very strange issues with the screen resolution. Because at home I use this x60 thinkpad on a dockingstation and a 19" display. As long as I used Awesome as my Desktop, the display manager as well as the desktop itself could handle the different screen resolution depending on if I'm out with just my 12" on my thinkpad or with the much bigger screen on my home 19" display.
I can understand that i3 maybe cannot handle this alone and I need xrandx to enforce the screen resolution. But why is the display manager (lightdm) also affected by this change? What is so different that even the DM cannot find the proper screen resolution?
Title says it all. Is there any way I can make usbmount mount CDs and DVDs when inserted into the drive? Or was it only designed for flash devices and hard drives? I am getting a pop up window saying: "Not optimum mode. Recommended mode 1280 x 1024 60Hz" In my case, this is happening after installing Debian 504 AMD64, the Samsung "SyncMaster 940N" that gives this message or warning was working fine for a few years on another machine under the previous Lenny distro.
The only way to get rid of this unwanted pop-up window (the monitor is working fine) is to press the "AUTO" switch on the monitor, there is no such option in the menu of the monitor to disable anything or change the resolution and it seems to me that, unlike what was suggested as an answer in similar threads, the problem is not with the monitor but with the distro unable to detect the monitor properly. The only mention in the "xorg.conf" file is as follows and running "dpkg reconfigure ..." has no other effect than creating a new exact duplicate of the file.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 on my laptop with the entire 500gb setup as encrypted LVM. This has worked well for several months with no problems. During this time i have been backing up the data to an external usb drive (1tb) on a regular basis. The usb drive was not encrypted. So, I thought it would be a good idea to encrypt the backup drive too. I wiped out the backup drive and set it up as one large encrypted lvm and mbr. This seemed to work fine but immediately afterwards I decided to erase that and set it up as encrypted lvm guid instead of mbr. I couldn't delete it while logged into my desktop so i decided to do it from a bootable gparted usb stick. In gparted i erased the 1TB backup drive once again and planned on setting it up the way I wanted once I was logged back into my ubuntu desktop. Now I cant boot into my desktop with the following errors:
cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available b0d) does not begin with /dev/mapper/
Then after waiting for a few minutes I get an error followed by (initramfs)
When booting from a live version of ubuntu the 250MB boot patition is recognized and 500 partion is there but it is labeled as empty/unused.
Also, I did choose to use the exact same passphrase as what is used on the main bootable drive when I set up the encrypted partition on the external 1TB drive.
Is it fair to say that connLimit and hashlimit are very similiar on Linux i.e. while hashlimit caters to limits for groups of ports, they both set the connection rate limit per host? How in IPTables, do I configure a policy that limits connections on a port that encapsulates the total sum of all connections from all hosts? i.e. I do not want to allow more than 6000conn/minute for port range that is the sum of all connecting hosts?
