Fedora Networking :: Port Forwarding For Apache Server At Home Network
Feb 7, 2010I am setting up Apache (Fedora 12) inside my home network. From inside my home network I access it without any problem. I need to set it up to access it from internet. I have the following questions. Here is temporary setup for testing purpose.
Internet-->ADSL modem (SEIMENS Speed Stream 4200)---> Apache (Fedora 12)
1. Do I have to do any kind of ports forwarding on ADSL modem. (There is no option to do port forwarding on Modem) May be I need different Model of Modem??
2. I tired to Ping my real IP for modem form another computer from internet. I am even unable to PING the ADSL 's real IP. Why it is that?

OpenSUSE Network :: Router With 2 DSL Connections Not Port Forwarding?
Apr 26, 2010I'm running suse 11.1 which is configured as a router. Configured are two DSL connections with static IP's and one LAN connection (3 NIC's all together).
Problem: suse firewall will only port forward connections from one of the DSL connections and not the other.
Because I'm running two DSL connections is there something special I have to turn on/enable on the firewall?

Jan 15, 2011I used to have Opensuse 11.0 and Vuze 4.0.2 and both were working great. Recently I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.3 and installed Vuze 4.5.10. I did not change any configuration in the ADSL router but now I could not get the smiley icon to go green. I followed all the steps given here: A Quick Bittorrent Guide (with screenshots). It doesn't work. so I modified FW_ROUTE and FW_MASQUERADE to yes in /etc/sysconfig/SuSefirewall2. That also does not work. What did I miss here? My ADSL router is DSL-2640T.

Ultimately my DB will run in VM2 and any DB requests coming in at 2055 of VM1 should be forwarded to port 2055 of VM2. Since I do not yet have a DB running I am trying to test with netcat.

Sep 7, 2010I'm trying to set my openSUSE desktop up to use the printers on my office network via Samba. I managed to get it working in 11.2 but 11.3 is giving me some trouble.I am able to access the printers and use them but I have to enter my network credentials each time I print. In 11.2 I was able to "save" my username/password and was not required to do this. Are there any Samba packages I need to add in addition to the basic ones? There seems to be a lack of documentation on this particular subject, most is concerning Windows clients printing on Linux print servers.

I've been told I need to ensure php 5.2 on the box along with ensuring several mod's are installed as well for php and apache. I was planning on using the lamp provided from xampp (apache friends) but they're current build is using PHP 5.3, any suggestions on how to get around it? If I have to build the whole thing from several packages (apache, php, mysql) then no problem, but I really like the myphpadmin page that comes with the xampp installer.

Aug 26, 2011I have a little bit of a problem, I run openSUSE as a server on a Dell PowerEdge T610. I use it for sharing files in a local network and as a web server accessible through the public IP (configured through router DMZ). Also, I use Teamviewer for remote control in order to avoid some compatibility and network problems. Generally the computer runs flawless but from time to time, as about once in two weeks, all network related services except the Apache server which runs just fine, and is still accesible, crash. The Samba share can't be accessed anymore, the Teamviewer is also dead and the only way to put everything back in order is a restart. The thing is I don't know if an error occurs since the server hasn't got a monitor installed, and more than that I do most of my work remotely (as in miles and miles away from the location) and it takes me quite some time to actually get there and see what's happening.
So, any ideas what might be happening? I belive that there might be some information in some of the logs, but as I am not an expert in Unix like operating systems I don't exactly know where to start from.

I have one virtual host with a sub directory that contains pdf news letters.do not want the directory browsable and tried putting an index.php file that re-directshe user to the root directory but when I go to the [web address]/[directory name] in any browser I see the contents of the folder listed.
Currently the news letter list is drawn from a database table and displayed as links on a page in the root directory. The links point to the file name in the sub directory. How do I block users from going to that sub directory and seeinge contents of that directory listed? Would I add another <directory> statement in the vhosts.conf file? If so how would I structure that directive?

May 23, 2010setting up my LAMP server to send email messages through my cable network SMTP server. If you respond please realize that I am new to linux/apache. I cannot send emails out with the built in email server on Suse and don't even know if it is enabled. I used to do it with my IIS/ColdFusion server but there were options for the outbound SMTP server and authentication. I have searched and think I have to use something called Pear but to be honest the instructions are vague to say the least and it all looks greek to me.

Feb 26, 2010I have a question about port forwarding. I have an internal Red Hat server and I would like to use it as a central connection point to some back end servers. This is not an internet router setup. I was thinking I could use iptables and do port forwarding similar to an internet router but internal to internal.
Basically I would like to take any connections to port 22 on server1 interface eth0 and forward them out of interface eth1 to server2 port 22.I am finding a lot of information on port forwarding, but it is all based on using an internet router that is passing through to an internal server. I need to know how to configure a basic linux setup with no existing iptables entries so that I can do this within an existing network.Also, if there is a better or easier approach I would appreciate any direction. I don't want to do this through an SSH tunnel.I know to start I need the following to enable forwarding in the kernel and a firewall PREROUTING rule.
Ubuntu :: Can't Access Apache Server On The Local Network
Oct 11, 2010I'm trying to set up a small Intranet system to run OpenERP or similar using browser-based clients. I have an Ubuntu machine running 10.04 desktop edition to act as a temporary/testing server until we set up a proper, dedicated machine with 10.04 server edition. I have installed Apache2 from the repos and it is up and running fine - locally. That is the problem, I can't access the server from other machines on the LAN. Ping works, btw. So I've been reading tutorials and howtos for the past week, but for the life of me, I can't find what I'm doing wrong. The standard Apache setup seems to be made to "just work", so although I've looked at the various configuration files mentioned in the tutorials, I haven't actually changed anything.

Jan 20, 2010I have x11 forwarding enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on a suse 11.2 32 bit box running kde I can open x apps on a windows machine using xming and putty just fine, but when I boot the same machine into suse 11.2 64 bit using kde and try using konsole I get: cannot connect to x server
The command I'm using to log in is: ssh -X -l username host I doubt the problem is with the server I'm logging into or it wouldn't work in windows, not really sure what to look for as I've never had a problem using x11 forwarding from a linux client before only windows ones

Feb 3, 2010I have two PC's, one with slackware and one with arch, and I am trying to access the web server from the archlinux machine but i haven't manage to do that. The archlinux machine is connect to the internet via the slackware machine via a crossover cable:
internet > eth0 (pc1) and ppp0 (the PPPoE connection, pc1) > eth1 (pc1) > eth0 (pc2)

I have two computers that I have updated to OpenSuse 11.2 (both used to run 10.3). Since doing this upgrade I can no longer access the samba share from the Suse machines. Basically, both Dolphin and Konqueror ask for a username and password to access "avoca" (the workgroup).

I don't have admin rights on one of my local networks to open the firewall for port 80 to make my server accessible remotely (from the internet). I have a remote server (OpenVZ VPS) and I want to port forward so that [url]:8080 will point to my localhost:80 from the internet itself (i can get it to work on the remote VPS server's local network)...
