OpenSUSE Network :: DHCP4 Does Not Receive An Adress On Startup?
Mar 8, 2010
i installed opensuse 11.2 but the network is still not running. On startup the dhcp client does not recive an adress. Here is the output from the boot.msg
Code:
Setting up (localfs) network interfaces:
lo
lo IP address: 127.0.0.1/8
IP address: 127.0.0.2/8
I have configured connection properly through mobile phone (SonyEricsson C510) by bluetooth. I get dynamic IP address and can ping everything but can't ping my IP adress which was automaticaly granted, from outside. SuseFirewall is stopped.
My OpenSUSE 11.1 boot sequence pauses for 20 seconds (you can see the countdown in the log) when trying to start the DHCP4 client, and then fails to start it:
Code: Setting up (localfs) network interfaces: lo lo IP address: 127.0.0.1/8 IP address: 127.0.0.2/8
just installed ubuntu in 1 of my boxes is an old compaq presario v2000. Is running dual boot with XP, the problem is i dont have internet connection(wireless and wired) with Ubuntu but i do with XP. I read like hundreds of posts from diferent forums and i wrote all crazy commands in terminal but aint working. I tried directly trough the modem (motorolla 2210)and with the router(netgear wgr614) via wired and wireless and aint working either. For some reason ubuntu doesnt request an ip adress from the router or the router dont asign an ip adress to my linux box.
can't send or recieve E-mail. Running postfix , thunderbird squirrel mail. Thunderbird and squirrelmail connect to server but am unable to send or recieve. recieve connection refuses 111 can't open smtp stream. I seen a post mentioning port 25 : 587 for squirrellmail but I do not have exim.conf to update daemon_smtp_ports= 25 : 587 is this located in another file for suse 11.2?
I upgraded my home server from openSUSE 10.3 to 11.2. From that day, postfix rejects every email I try to receive by using fetchmail. The main.cf file was unchanged after the upgrade, postfix starts correctly, but it does not accepts emails! The errors I receive are:
Code: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from localhost[::1]: 504 5.5.2 <localhost>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname; from=<> to=<correctuser@somedomain.com> proto=SMTP helo=
I have installed a working DNS server on my home network. I have an unique server, devoted to dns, gateway, storage which runs opensuse 11.0 (I known that it is rather old). Two new clients require DHCP. I have installed, using yast, a very simple DHCP server, according to the following config:
(I have tried to add "ddns-update-style none", and to remove the ntp-servers option, since my server is not a time server, without success). Unfortunately, even if the client (a mac running OSX 10.4) receives a right IP and gateway address, it displays neither dns server address nor default domain name. The same mac, on my office network (not managed by me), receives everything.
On our Home LAN, we have several different SuSE machines running. Now, I have run into a problem which I cannot solve myself. One of the computers (a 11.2) just doesn't receive any IPv6 lease from the main router. The router has radvd running and distributes addresses to the other computers just fine. The network card on the box ist a
How can I enable the network with Networkmanager WIHTOUT logging in in OpenSuse 11.2? If I define a connection for ethernet the System connection is greyed out. I want to use Networkmanager because I have also wireless connections...
I have installed the Li f e distro in my laptop as Virtuaqlbox guest and actualised it completly. I created the "moodle" database and "moodleuser" in mysql and started the apache2 web server as written in Moodle - openSUSE My problem is that the page //localhost/moodle is blank . does not appears nothinġ I tested the page //localhost/ and "it works" , and tested the //localhost/manual and shows the manual local pages of apache through http. I alsoo tested the //localhost/phpMyAdmin page and it works entering the "moodleuser" and password and shows the phpMyAdmin pages. I tried also //localhost/ATutor and //localhost/FreeSMS and they does not work (error "not found" page ) and tried //localhost/openbiblio and shows a "database query error"I changed the HOSTNAME varialble to localhosţ. The files in the /srv/www/moodle directory are owned by root whith 744 permisions I tried with lynx http text browser and shows the 500 error (internal server error)
After switching from KDE to XFCE, knetworkmanager doesn't automatically start when you log in. If you open it yourself, you magically get internet. How can I add KNetworkManager to the programs automatically started by XFCE?
I have built 11.2 on several laptops and knetwork manager startup for wireless is not consistent. I can't figure it out. Sometimes the options "Create Network Connection" and "enable wireless" are greyed out. Other times they are fine. What is the secret to getting the options to appear in my window tray all the time? I always select knetwork manager as the default when I do a clean build.
i'm trying to automount a samba share on computers startup, everything works just fine when the network adapter is controled by traditional way ifup but when i'm switching to NetworkManager doesn't work anyway. i'm hiding the share information from the common user by using the /etc/samba/cifstab as i read on intrernet, in the cifstab i put //server/share /home/user/share cifs sername=user,password=pass,uid=1000,_netdev .could anybody give me a hint or tell me where to look?
I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.3 amd64 from DVD on a new HP 625 Laptop. Whenever networking is activated, application startup slows down significantly. When I deactivate networking in the nm-applet application startup is fine. I am using the broadcom-wl package from packman for the broadcom wireless card (BCM4313)
Okey I have a good start i know there is something I'm missing. After Following this great help tutorial.[URL]..And kinda guestimating and messing around with my Linksys creating a new router assigning a static ip "Lan and wireless" address. configuration for the router looks like this.

I think I might be messing up the interface config file at the "NETWORK" section but i don't know.
its been several years since i played with iptables. I have setup like this:eth0 is the only physical device on box and eth0:0 is aliased. Traffic going out of the box to internet uses eth0eth0 116.55.58.1eth0:0 116.55.58.2I have a service listening on port 80 on 116.55.58.2Lets say my client connect to 116.55.58.2:80 through 116.55.58.1 , how do I force (mangle you name it) with iptables that the outgoing source address will be always 116.55.58.2?
I'm not able to set up eth0 with a static ip adress.service network restart and it was okkay but when I try to turn off and turn on, the ip adress is set up with dhcp.
I run a local apache server, that has some virtual hosts running. Now I want to be able to locally connect to these virtual hosts, but when I try this, it puts www and .com behind the url and says it can't find it. On Windows I know the equivalent, editing the hosts file. Is there something similar in linux?
I have my box setup as a router/NAT with two different network cards. One for external connection(connected to the Cable Modem) one for internal connection(used for internal DHCP). It works perfectly when I manually activate the two interfaces after booting(both interfaces always show up as inactive after booting), then the DHCP server and firewall. I am confused, however, by which program has control of these interfaces.
First, there is the Network Configuration (System->Administration->Network), which is where I manually start the interfaces after rebooting. Both interfaces are set to "Activate when computer starts" in here.
Second, Network Device control(System->Administration->Network Device Control), which looks to be almost the same thing as the above.
Third, the NetworkManager applet(on the top bar) - both devices show up as unmanaged when I left click on this, but if I set "Controlled by Network Manager" in the "Network configuration" window(number one above), It still does not work. Can I get rid of two of these programs, or is there some way to edit the startup scripts to start my ethernet cards before the dhcp server/firewall(which is shorewall BTW)?
I need help with my K mail I set everything up correctly but it does not send nor recieve email to my kmail. I however did recieve my email to my windows base email through charter internet but not through K mail can
Suddenly, for no reason apparent to me, on initial logon I don' t have an eth0 connection. I click on the Network Manager icon in the tray, and connect that way. But it would be nice if it connected automagically. How do I fix network to connect on 1st logon?
I have a wireless network adapter that I finally got working with Ubuntu 10.04, but now I have a question. Is it possible for the network adapter to connect to my network at startup, rather than waiting for NetworkManager to do it?I was able to do this in 9.04, but since Ubuntu started using upstart.
I work at a school where we are experimenting with Ubuntu 10.10. On our Windows machines, when the users sign in, their "U:" drive automatically mounts up so that can access their network shared storage. Is there a way to set this up in Linux so it automounts, rather than them have to go and find it out on the network every time?
I have a NAS box that runs Ubuntu Server and Samba. 4 of the HDDs are in RAID5 (/dev/md1) and I've configured them to spin down after 10 minutes of inactivity. This filesystem is mounted on /share/Media. The other 2 HDDs are NOT configured to spin down. My other computer runs Ubuntu Desktop. I'm mounting the entire /share folder (that's located on NAS) using this entry in /etc/fstab:
the startup of programs when i log into my Ubuntu Account.
My Operating System:
- Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (only using Gnome)
Programs at StartUp:
- Mozilla Thunderbird (2 email-accounts for business) - Emesene (MSN Client for business use) - FireStarter (I know it's just the GUI, but i love to view the Logging at realtime since Ubuntu is the Main-Server in my network)
Is it possible to configure the startup, so that the programs start running AFTER the Network Connection is established?
