I have a program that attaches to an interface. I can run two copies of the program on two systems (each running one instance), connect it to a switch, say 1.1.1.1 & 1.1.2.1. In this configuration two instances of the program can communicate and everything is fine. Now, to reduce cost, it want to use only one system with two nics connected to the same switch, running two instances of the above program, each instance attached to two interfaces respectively on the system. I have the following settings:
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
inet addr:1.1.1.1 Bcast:1.1.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
[code]....
However I cannot ping one from the other.
Neither "ping -I eth1 1.1.2.1" nor "ping -I eth2 1.1.1.1" works.
I am accessing a remote DB using JDBC from inside a java program. is there any terminal command with which I can see the remote machine's ip/mac address?

(I can ping the CentOS itself). The IP address of CentOS is 192.168.0.202.After pinging 192.168.0.106 (106 is on and other host can ping it), arp -a shows? (192.168.0.106) at <incomplete> on eth0 It looks ARP cannot resolve MAC address of hosts 192.168.0.106.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed apache2 on my Ubuntu machine and I am trying to access the server from another subnet. The server is connected using ethernet and has a static ip address. I can ping from the server to any machine in the other subnet but non of the machine on that subnet can ping the server. iptables does not seem to be running
Code:
# service iptables status
iptables: unrecognized service
and its rules are
Code:
# iptables -L
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

What is preventing my machine from being accessed from the other subnet?
What are the differences between base address and I/O address?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am doing a test on MAC learning and for that ,I need to change my MAC address of linux machine while the interface is UP. To be more clear, consider eth1 in a fedora core 8 machine. And while the interface is UP. I am running a script which changes the MAC address from 10:1:1:1:1:1 to 50:50:50:50:50:50 (i.e 50 times MAC address is changed) . When I try to change the MAC address when the interface it UP, it gives me the following error :
siocsifhwaddr : device or resource busy
I know the way of changing the MAC address by bringing down the interface but I need to know if this can be done while the interface is UP.

Both Switch1 and switch2 are connected by a trunk to carry VLAN100 data.
1)I have few PCs of 1.x connected to say Switch1 Is it possible for PC with IP 192.168.1.100(x) to ping PC with IP 192.168.2.100(y)?What are the configuration required in both switches to make them communicate ? All the device in both the subnets should ping/communicate with each other.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm just an undergrad with duck tape and google searches to hold this place together. Anyways on to my question. Where I work, we have a tape library but no way to configure it, the backup software simply talks to the robot to load and unload tapes. There is a network port on the library and I do have the software, but have been running into problems getting access. I was wondering, is there a way to determine the ip address of this machine by plugging in a cross over cable with a laptop and scanning it? What tools could I use to do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy ISP can give me up to 5 ip addresses. Is it possible to "forward" one of them to a machine to get rid of nat? I was thinking of "forwarding" one public ip to my machine and let the rest of the network share one ip using nat.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 2 NIC's in a box. One of them is external and doesn't matter for this question I don't think.
The other NIC is 192.168.100.3. It hosts an iSCSI Target and SMB Share on my LAN. It's works great.
I have another PC that has NIC at 192.168.100.101 and it hosts my DHCP (Scope: 192.168.100.5-25) server for my LAN.
I have a hardware firewall at 192.168.100.1 and it serves inet to the LAN on a different external connection.
So...
I currently have a WAP (cheap p.o.s. netgear router in WAP mode that keeps overheating). I want to eliminate the WAP device and add a WiFi NIC to the Top PC above.
So, on the first system I would have:
NIC 1: External IP and External Gateway
NIC 2: Static IP 192.168.100.3
Proposed WiFi NIC 3: Static 192.168.100.4
Question:
If I bridge NIC 2 and NIC 3 like this:
# brctl addbr br0
# brctl addif br0 eth0
# brctl addif br0 eth1
Then I simply put the WiFi in Ad Hoc, will another WiFi in Ad Hoc (for example my laptop) be able to "see" 192.168.100.101 (DHCP) & 192.168.100.1 (Gateway) (via WiFI 192.168.100.4 through the bridge to 192.168.100.3 and on to the LAN)?
Also, can the two NIC's be bridge together even though they are the SAME subnet?
tasks of an administrative level that we can use Shell Script to automate them. It's a kind of homework for me to figure out how to automate those tasks. Using PHP and Shell Script design and develop a Web Interface to change or set the IP Address and Subnet Mask of the UNIX / Linux System. The related services must be restarted automatically for the new IP Address and Subnet Mask to take effect. No user name and password should be asked for when using that Web Interface. How would you do it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an odd thing going on with DNS. I have two machine's running Ubuntu and for some reason they do not always resolved internet addresses on my Internet connection. This has gone on since the Ubuntu 8.04 when I first started using Ubuntu. Anyway, I use OpenDNS' DNS servers and I have been running perfectly.
This is what is odd. My Windows XP Machine never has the problem. It always resolves. Does Windows Possibly have some Microsoft hosted DNS server hard coded in there as a backup? Things are working fine this way so I am not looking to change. I am just a little puzzled and finally got around to asking, "Why is this".

Okey I have a good start i know there is something I'm missing. After Following this great help tutorial.[URL]..And kinda guestimating and messing around with my Linksys creating a new router assigning a static ip "Lan and wireless" address. configuration for the router looks like this.
