there is icon marked as update dns service via dhcp after u unmark it u can put it manual
in 11.3 there is no icon
+ there is no separate icon for the dns configuration in the network service category
so how can i change the dns?
I bought the wireless PCI network card WMP600N from Linksys. I tried to connect with my router, but no success. The correct driver is installed(RT2800), the necessary package WPA_supplement is also installed. My providers settings are WPA-PSK with a shared key. Key encryption is TKIP. I can't choose TKIP in the Yast network menu. so i chose passphrase.
the weird thing is that the wifimanager says WEP is on but it's not, at least not in my router and i did not setup WEP to. see picture 6. i had to use manual boot "ifup wlan0" because when i use boot at startup the whole systeem freezes. anyway, when i use ifup wlan0 as root in the konsole, the system also freezes. i have explained it clearly, please take a look a the pictures.

Recently, I decided to migrate from SuSE 11.2 to 11.4. My 11.2 installation was working fine with two VLANs and several VMs. I went the route of installing 11.4 from scratch rather than upgrading 11.2.
The installation went smoothly. Afterwards, I ran Yast and changed eth0 to a bonding interface. Then I added two VLANs that used the bonding interface. When I restarted the computer, I saw the following on the console: "Waiting for mandatory devices vlan3005 __NSC__". Then after a 30 second countdown:
"vlan3005 no interface found". The solution to that problem was to add "ETHERDEVICE='eth0'" to /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0.3005". Upon restarting the computer, I could see that DHCP started this time but didn't get an IP address and continued in the background while the rest of the console messages scrolled by. At the point where X kicks in and I should have gotten a GUI login window, the screen goes dark. I cannot get to a console (CTRL-ALT-F1 or F2) or any other GUI login window (CTRL-ALT-F7 F8 or F9).
The computer was completely unresponsive. I could not ssh in to it from another host nor could I ping it. I let it sit for a few minutes but nothing ever appeared on the console. There were no blinking lights on the keyboard. I had to power the computer off. I turned off VLAN trunking on the switch port and the computer booted up fine, without network access, of course. I checked the logs but could find no clues as to what happened. I suspect a kernel problem. However, before I proceed further, I thought I would post my problem here and see if anyone has had a similar problem and perhaps a solution.
I have a virtual machine with SUSE Linux Entperise 10 SP2 (I586) installed. However, the default setting is using command line based interface.
Is it possible to change it to be GNOME or KDE based interface ?
i am using intel hardware on this working on suse linux 10.2 . i am not able to configure the network card IP address I have tryed using dhcp and static both way. Currently intel DG41RQ network card is assembled in my system. by using command ifconfig i can see only lo but eth0 is not displayed their.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed suse on this computer, and am wanting to allow other computers to store files on it as a file server. I was reading the online manual and in the personal file preferences, it shows an option to enable 'share public files over network'. The problem is I don't see that option when I open up file preferences. All I see is an option to allow sharing using bluetooth, nothing about sharing over the network. When I look in the network I can see the computer running suse, but when I try to connect to it, it says 'unable to mount drive: connection refused by server.'
View 3 Replies View RelatedNew SUSE 11.3 install connects to network/internet etc OK with DHCP-assigned IP address. When I switch to static IP, I can no longer ping internal network, or anything else. This works OK with SUSE 11.2 on same hardware and (as far as I can see) same setup. Some diagnostics are shown below.

Disabling the firewall makes no difference.
Not using a network manager (can't see how to assign fixed address if I do - all greyed out).

I am attempting to setup a linux file server in active directory. It has been kind of an ongoing project(nightmare) for me... I have tried a few distributions of linux and I have to say I really enjoy openSUSE. YaST is my best friend. Now to the problem at hand.
I have samba installed and configured for the domain. I was able to successfully join the machine to the domain. I can even log on using domain user names and passwords (more than I was able to accomplish with other distros...). Where I am having a problem currently is I cannot see the suse machine from a windows machine. I can access shares from suse to windows though.
I would like to change to the Gnome desktop is this possible and if so how?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI would like to use my SuSE 11.2 1TB RAID server to backup my mac using time machine. I found several tutorials on the web for using netatalk over ssh, but all these tutorials are for Ubuntu and require the debian package. Has anybody compiled netatalk over ssh under SuSE? I cannot verify if the netatalk package installed by the SuSE installer has been compiled with this option. Alternatively could somebody point me to any documentation to help me compile netatalk? I tried reading the netatalk manual from sourceforge, but that asks for installation of a Berkley DB that is not required under Ubuntu.

eth1 is connected to a cable modem and uses dhcp. After migrating to suse-11.2 ip-forwarding (once the system is up and running) is sometimes deactivated and i have no clue why. /etc/syslog.conf has an entry net.ipv4.ip_forwarding = 1
i have modified the SuSE-scripts /sbin/SuSEfirewall /sbin/ifup-dhcp /etc/init.d/SuSEfirewall2_setup to make sure each time my firewall-rules are loaded ip-forwarding is explicitly enabled. This worked perfectly with suse-11.0. Now ip-forwarding is enabled after a system reboot or after one of the above scripts is called, but somewhere somehow ip-forwarding is always deactivated and i have no idea how this happens. This may happen after 5 minutes or after 5 hours. As a workaround i created a cronjob running every 5 minutes issuing a sysctl-command to enable ip-forwarding.
i using before ubuntu and in them it was simple just in the terminal sudo ppoeconfig but i dont know to config it in suse 11.2.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of biggest reason I need to use windows is because my company uses Juniper SSL VPN to remote desktop into our company's computer. Our company doesn't allow any native linux/windows app client, only the web SSL VPN is enabled.
Looks like this Juniper SSL VPN only works on windows computers. It makes the windows remote desktop client connect over the SSL web VPN from browser. Of course, linux/SUSE doesn't have the windows desktop client. Is there any way to get RDP work through the given SSL VPN? Otherwise, I guess I need go back install windows and starting using it again.

What about features though? What does openSUSE/Linux have instead of AD for file/folder sharing across the network? Are there roaming profiles? I've setup vnc over ssh tunnelling however the Suse firewall seems to be blocking it. On the local host I have this in ~/.ssh/config:LocalForward localhost:5900 remotehost.com:5900 The problem is that this only works when I either disable the firewall or add an exception for VNC. Both of these actions defeat the whole purpose of ssh tunnelling since they leave my VNC port open to the outside world (very insecure).

View 5 Replies View RelatedHardware issue forced me to restore Win7. Installed EasyBCD to boot into openSUSE, no work. Boot puppy, it shows space where SUSE should be as unallocated space. I think Puppy doesn't see ext4 though. Can't boot live KDE off USB for some reason, though I originally installed from that exact medium. Tried ACPI=off and nomodeset. Error says trouble mounting clic filesystem, mounted as read only. Something like that. Then reboot 120secs, which it never actually does. I don't want to reinstall SUSE if I don't have to.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a windows machine (in a domain) and I have created 2 Virtual Machines with Suse 11.2 installed on them.Now, I want to share a folder in windows to both Suse images. I am succesfully able to do that.I used: mount -t cifs -o user..... command to mount it at /mnt/win on my linux and succesfully able to work with it.
Now, I want a user in my Linux box (both Linux images)to be able to write to the shared folder in windows (actually both linux images will write to the shared folder but it is based on acquairing locks and releasing them to be able to use the shared folder on windows).
I tried etc fstab and lot other options but my efforts were in vain.Simply put - I need a user in my linux box (suse 11.2) to be able to write to a windows shared folder.
I just installed SUSE in a VMware to test it out. A problem i've had with VMware before was getting the wireless to work. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get the wireless to work over the VMware and in SUSE. I know this may not particularly be a SUSE question but all I saw in the VMware forums was one response that said it was not possible.

(Note: it is only a single core machine. I have no idea why both Suse and Windows say it is dual core as the processor was bought and installed months before dual cores went on the market.)

Now on to my problem. About a year ago I had to wipe my Windows drive and backed up about 32 GB of stuff from it to my OpenSuse drive. I did this from the Suse OS using Dolphin. In fact I can see, open, change, delete, modify layout, and move stuff around on the Windows drive all day long from Suse. I can as I said pull stuff over to the Suse drive from Windows drive while in Suse and save to Suse drive. Now I have need of the stuff that was moved but Windows does not see the Suse drive for what it is. Just says 'unknown partion type' gives size in GB and ignores it otherwise. From Suse if I try to move stuff back to the Windows drive it starts to transfer then stops and tells me it does not have permission to access the destination drive, folder, or location depending on how I tried to save it to the Windows drive. Adding new hard drives to the system does not help and the external 1 TB drive we have Suse can see it but will not do anything with it. The thumb drives on the other hand Suse does not have a problem with. It will open, read, and write to them all day long. Suse will not access the network to dump files to the network file server and it does not see any other systems on the network not even the ones running the same OS. I want to do the following:
1. Move the Windows files from the Suse drive to the Windows drive in same machine or to the network file server (also a windows machine)
2. Move all the Suse files to another machine running same Suse OS.
3. Wipe the Suse drive in this Machine so that Windows can use it.
