Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.10 - Unable To Install MPlayer VAAPI
Dec 26, 2010I tried to install mplayer vaapi on my Acer 1810tz with Ubuntu 10.10 with no success.
View 2 RepliesI tried to install mplayer vaapi on my Acer 1810tz with Ubuntu 10.10 with no success.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to get mplayer-vaapi working on my system, so I can watch 1080p videos with hardware acceleration (and to remove the tear effect).
Anyway I am having trouble getting VA Api to work correctly. I have extensively google-ed around, and I cannot find a way to fix this problem.
Here is the output for vainfo (the error from vainfo is the same as mplayer-vaapi):
Code:
libva: libva version 0.31.1-sds1
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
[Code].....
but I have found that:
1. The Xlib error shouldn't matter
2. I do have an fglrx_drv_video.so file in /usr/lib/va/drivers
3. I have installed the latest libva amd64 deb package
4. I have installed the latest xvba amd64 deb package
I am running Lucid on 2.6.34-020634-generic kernel (with a patched fglrx module). I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series card.
Also before I found the deb package for libva I followed this tutorial to compile it (some things had to be tweaked for it to compile successfully) [URL]. But I did reinstall libva when I found the .deb package.
Have anyone tried enabling libvdpau, libva (vaapi) and MPlayer with the proprietary Nvidia driver? Does it actually work on slackware stable/current? (Lower cpu utilization during HD decoding) Is this the correct installation workflow?
- libvdpau SBo
- libva SBo
- Nvidia driver SBo/proprietary
- vdpau-video SBo
- ffmpeg/MPlayer from SBo/slackware/alien
Anybody can point me the steps to successful install VAAPI under Ubuntu? Last week I tried several times diferent drivers, libs, packages and nothing work.
Actually I'm using Ubuntu Lucid under Inter C2D 3.0Ghz, with ATI Radeon HD-3870 graphics card.I already installed ATI Drivers (Catalyst) latest version (11).
What exactly I need to install? Catalysthacks [URL].. can solve my problems?
I recently updated my Squeeze installation to testing and since then I've been unable to use VDPAU with SMPlayer and MPLayer. When VDPAU is enabled every video file gives the same error (see log at the end; don't mind the extra channel entries, they're for converting AAC to AC3 on-the-fly). Before this everything worked as it should.

Cannot watch second, third, etc, streams from a server-side playlist (ie, .wsx on windows media service). I have tried mplayer, vlc, totem, and xine. Xine totally fails and the other three play only the first stream as described. You can verify it works in wine by using Windows Mediaplayer v10 (`winetricks wmp10` on a clean wine prefix).
The particular example I am dealing with is not an ideal test-case as they dynamically mangle the stream's URL to prevent leeching. You can test it by either visiting $URL (below) or from command line:
Code:
URL="http://desitvstreams.hotdnsplus.com/Indian/stargold.php"
MMS=$(wget "$URL" -qO- | sed -n '/src="mms/s/.*(mms:[^"]*).*/1/p')
mplayer -v "$MMS"
My research has brought up only two or three random posts citing a similar problem. All seem to be quite old (circa 2008). The most relevant is:
[URL]
I have attached the output from:
Code:
mplayer -msglevel all=9 "$MMS" &>mplayer.output
You will see that mplayer is seeing an EOF and terminating (perhaps the server is too slow so mplayer's timeout triggers EOF condition?). I tired fooling with -vid/-aid flags to no avail.
Does vaapi support the intel gm965 video card?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have attempted to install Mplayer on my recently upgraded opensuse. It states nothing provides libjpeg.so.62(LIBJPEG_6.2)(64Bit) needed by Mplayer-1.0rc4_r33030-1.pm.1.3.x86_64 With the options of Do not install Mplayer-1.0rc4_r33030-1.pm.1.3.x86_64 OR Break MPlayer by ignoring some of its dependencies. I do not want either of these options, rather I want to just have the option to install it.
The repositories I have ticked are the following
opensuse 11.4 OSS
opensuse 11.4 Updates
Packman Repository
ReDwarf
Opensuse 11.4 NOn OSS.
how I can resolve this dependency issue / install the software?
I'm owning an old single Core AMD (Opteron 148, like Athlon 64 3200+), it can't play h264 1080p-Videos without framedrops in active scenes. I'm also owning an not so old AMD/Ati Radeon HD 2400. It's not an UVD2 card, it's not even UVD+, its UVD i.e. UVD1. All articles regarding GPU h264 decoding I've found so far are saying "for vaapi gpu decoding on linux you need to have a UVD2 card". That's wrong! My UVD1-Card is playing fine some demo movies.
Setup:
Ubuntu "Lucid" 10.4
"deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/cutting-edge-multimedia/ubuntu lucid main" in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/cutting-edge-multimedia.list

(With the original Ubuntu Lucid fglrx (8.723) there's some error, I don't remember the words. It doesn't work for me)It's working. I can play h.264 HD Videos with mplayer and decode it with a Radeon GPU. vlc 1.2 not working so far. It seems it's decoding fine, but screen remains green. Here's a screenshot, no fake! It's a two Monitor setup with fglrx' big Desktop. On the right there's running a movie Trailer (I Am Legend) and on the left there's some status info. Quality is not perfect (as you can see, horizontal displacement), but it's basically working.
I am using redhat Linux 5.4 Server Edition. I am not able to to install Mplayer or VLC Player in various formats (.rpm , tgz). Kindly give me a guidance to Solve this ....

I've seen several threads in Ubuntu regarding implementing vaapi/xvba enabled media players for ATI GPU rendering. Does anyone know of any precompiled rpms for 11.3 (or tips for building on opensuse). I've installed Hellgasts xvba-video-amd rpms from the build service. I wasn't able to successfully build my own mplayer-vaapi from Index of /~gbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi.

I have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:
1.aptitude install libdrm libva.
2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.
3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.
My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?
I'm trying to install The Sims 2 (which I'm aware currently does not run properly in wine anyway), using the multi-CD version. The installation goes normally, up until it comes time to switch from disc 1 to disc 2. The installer prompts me to insert disc 2, but it seems that Ubuntu still believes that the installer doesn't want me to open the drive, because, when I try to open it, it doesn't open, and a window pops up with the following message: Unable to eject CD-RW/DVD RW Drive DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently setup my X to work well with the newer version of the ATI driver for my Radeon 3650, however no matter what I do, I can't get mplayer to scale to fullscreen. Something that xine has no trouble with. I have tried the x11, sdl, xover, gl, and gl2 outputs which all make no difference. Am I missing an output, or is something not working as it should? In particular, why is xine fine, while mplayer stumbles? As an unrelated question, it is possible to set mplayer to skip to a next file in a directory? From what I could tell, it does not seem to have this functionality built in.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem running Mplayer in Ubuntu 9.1. I've installed and uninstalled several times. Mplayer refuses to open from the applications menu.n I attempt to open from terminal it comes up with the following: mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/i686/cmov/libavcodec.so.52: file too short I've also tried other players such as Gnome Mplayer to play the video and it plays really fast with no audio or video. This has really been the only problem i've run into since switching from windows to linux two weeks ago.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed both mplayer and mplayer-gui packages, but I cannot find and launch mplayer with graphical interface. I want the classic mplayer's gui and seems that isn't there after installed. Doesn't appear ind applications on launcher and when I'm trying to run from terminal the mplayer-gui command I get the error:command not found. So, where is mplayer-gui and how to get it back. This problem doesn't exist in any previous ubuntu version.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using Debian Testing with Debian Multimedia Sid repos. The current Mplayer (3:1.0~rc4+svn20110308-0.0) seems to be broken - I can't encode AAC to AC3 on-the-fly anymore. I'd like to compile the latest snapshot or SVN version, but what is the easiest way to compile it with the same options as the one in debian-multimedia.org?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to take advantage of VDPAU for playing video files with my ASRock ION 330. As far as I know, MPlayer and VLC both include VDPAU support. Ok then, I managed to make MPlayer work from the command line:
mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau ./filename.mkv
In this way it plays a 720p content smoothly, with under 10% CPU use. Great!The problem is when I try to make this permanent, i.e., configuring the files ~/.mplayer/config and ~/.mplayer/gui.conf.This is what I have in there:
config
======
vo=vdpau,xv,
vc=ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,
[code]....
But still, when I open MPlayer from the menu, no matter what file I try to open it gives this ugly message:Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. With regard to VLC, I had no luck, although I am using the latest "1.0.3 Goldeneye" version, I don't know how to make use of VDPAU.
Running Lucid Lynx. VLC works fine but Xvmc output uses less CPU on my PIII 750 laptop and isn't supported by VLC. I installed Mplayer but I can't play anything from the Mplayer GUI. I get the message "FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or video output (-vo)". The interface is all black so I can't see the controls. I installed Gnome Mplayer GUI and now I have different problems. Playing video files, including VOB files from a DVD works fine. Trying to play a DVD with or without menues does not. I followed the instructions at URL.... What could be wrong?

I'm trying to use mplayer to stream some content from the net to my desktop. This worked fine the first time I did it (though failed dismally on all subsequent occasions. Now, the first umpteen times, I was behind a proxy. Now I am not behind a proxy, but mplayer still looks for the proxy settings. Why? I have changed the proxty settings in the network proxy (applied globally), in Firefox and every where else I can think of. I use the following command:
Code:
mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile ~/Desktop/<desired_filename>.avi http://<source>.avi
and I'm told in response
Code:

What gives? Why is mplayer trying to use a proxy, and how can I tell it not to?
what do i need to write to get the mediafile info from mplayer?

I've finally found a way to actually stream .asx stuff using mplayer ( by extracting the actual link to the video from it ), and now I'd like to record it. In the asx, I've found a link to an .asf file, which I can stream using mplayer. How can I save this to view it locally?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am on amd64, Lucid Lynx (10.04). Using the latest mplayer (MPlayer SVN-r31042-Ubuntu-RVM).
I'm trying to play a hi-def wmv. I get video and audio, but there is definitely some audio missing. The center channel is gone. I have music and sound effects, but the characters dialog is silent.
I use mplayer to play my media files. Occasionally I want to take screenshots of media I am playing. I use the -vf screenshot option to take screenshots which generates shotxxxx.png. The issue is that all those png are not compressed and usually large. When dealing with Hi-Def media they are extremely large, each is 4-5 MB in size at the least. Is there a way I can set the option for compression of png images. If I use imagemagick the same files get compressed to like 1.5MB of png file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using mplayer with vdpau enabled in Ubuntu 10.10. It works very well in general, reducing cpu usage for hd from 50% to 60% to around 10 -15% or less. There is however one slightly annoying problem. It is that mplayer would appear to "forget" its vdpau output setting once in a while and especially after rebooting. When that happens it needs to be "reset" in order to use vdpau. "Resetting" basically just means opening gnome-mplayer and change video output to xv and then back to vdpau again.
I should clarify that the setting has not actually been lost, it still says "vdpau", it just need resetting).
