Debian Multimedia :: Integrated Intel Video And High-def Video W/vaapi?

Jul 6, 2011

I have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:

1.aptitude install libdrm libva.

2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.

3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.

My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?

Hardware :: Config Ubuntu Lucid For Intel GM965/GL960 Video?

Jul 14, 2010

Can someone give me clues about adjusting my Ubuntu Lucid X11 use of my Intel video hardware? My laptop has video hardware identified as follows:( output from sudo lshw)

Code:
*-display:0 UNCLAIMED
description: VGA compatible controller
product: Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller
vendor: Intel Corporation
physical id: 2
bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0

[Code]...

Q3: The lshwoutput shows two displays, display:0 and display:1. Can someone tell me why two and how to make use of both of these? NOTE -- The existing forum entries are mostly from April 2009 or talk about Compiz issues. While Compiz will squeeze video hardware pretty well, I use a tablet-PC and so far, Compiz features do not play well with tablet features.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Configuring An Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 To Work In Jaunty?

Apr 22, 2010

About a year ago, I installed ubuntu on my ThinkPad X61, which was running windows. I basically just overwrote the hard drive, assigning one partition to the install. The graphics have always been a little buggy when it comes to 3d rendering or flash. Flash graphics flicker a lot and 3d rendering leaves trails or doesn't show up at all. Is there a way to configure the graphics card? I'm completely unexperienced when it comes to graphics cards and don't know where to start. I don't even know how to access its settings.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Video Players Supporting Vaapi/xvba For ATI Cards?

Jan 7, 2011

I've seen several threads in Ubuntu regarding implementing vaapi/xvba enabled media players for ATI GPU rendering. Does anyone know of any precompiled rpms for 11.3 (or tips for building on opensuse). I've installed Hellgasts xvba-video-amd rpms from the build service. I wasn't able to successfully build my own mplayer-vaapi from Index of /~gbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Lenovo T400 - Intel Video Card And Compiz - Desktop Effects Cannot Be Enabled

Apr 4, 2010

I'm running Karmic Koala 64 bit on my Lenovo T400 laptop with switchable graphics having both Intel and ATI video cards. I've set my bios to use the intel card only and turned the automatic switching off. So far so good, but I'd like to turn on compiz for basic window animations. When I try to start compiz by selecting

Code:

"Appearance Preferences" -> "Visual Effects" -> "Normal"

I get an error message saying "Desktop effects cannot be enabled"

Code:

"System" -> "Administration" -> "Hardware Drivers"

doesn't show any new drivers that could be installed. This was working out of the box when I first installed Karmic Koala a few month ago, but things got messed up when I installed the restricted drivers for my ATI card. Now I can enable compiz if I switch to ATI from my bios settings and install the drivers but I don't want to use it due to high power consumption and I've removed the ATI drivers.

Here is my xorg.conf file:

Code:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

I have a problem with compiz and this card, after few weeks suddenly it doesn't work with ubuntu, I always had troubles with this kind of cards, I was always able to solve it by this forum but this time I gave up.

The driver for GM965/GL960 is working perfectly but the compiz effects although they are enabled they are not applied to the desktop environment.

The compiz-check output is:

Hardware :: Driver Intel GM965/GL960 Fedora 14?

Apr 30, 2011

My lap has a "Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)" video card, and never took the 1280x800 resolution (that I had on windows). I searched a lot, and I installed a driver from the package manager (can't remember the name ...). Well, restart, and it's stuck at the finish of fedora loading process (a blank line).

I can access to the terminal (ctrl + alt + f2) and modify kernel parameters. By the way, on gnome I could't enter to "Desktop Effects" (it threw an message like "can't enter 3D Acceleration")

I have a fairly new laptop, 2*1.8 Ghz, but when I try to run games more advanced than pac-man, it's about 1-0.5 frames / second. This doesn't seem right. I've goggled it, and found a few posts from 2008-2009, but nothing that actually helped. Does anyone have any idea, as to what might be wrong? If anyone has this card, I'd like to see what you have in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file...

Ubuntu Installation :: Black Screen Using Alternate Cd On Hp Compaq 6710b (INTEL Mobile GM965/960)?

May 7, 2010

When trying to install Lucid on my HP Compaq 6710b (INTEL Mobile GM965/960 graphic controller) using the alternate i386cd with an usb pen i (re-)experiencing (known from the Jaunty installation) the following problem:Boot from USB (works) Select language (works) Choose to install ubuntu (works) Removing quit from the boot options, hit enter, see some output (works) Starting the installation interface (fail) The screen wents to black, but system seems not froozen. What i've tried to fix this issue:fb=false as bootoption (worked in jaunty, does not work with lucid) frambuffer=false

fb=off
debian-installer/framebuffer=false
vga=123, tried all of the offered modes

vga=771 (get some screwed up output on the screen, which i guess from that the system/machine is not frozen)
i915.modeset=1
i915.modeset=0
xforcevesa etc

Anyone managed to install Lucids with INTEL graphics + the alternate cd? PS: I need the alternate cd to setup an encrypted system. PPS: Just tested the desktop i386 image which works flawlessly.

Ubuntu Installation :: Intel 855GM Video Card Not Accelerated ?

Jul 29, 2011

Just installed Ubuntu 11.04, and everything is perfect, except my video card. Ubuntu 11.04 refuses to run my labtops integrated Intel 855GM video card in OpenGL hardware accelerated mode. Everything is really slow/unresponsive compared to earlier versions, windows are rendering painfully slow etc. From what I can gather, problem is, 11.04/newest Compiz is OpenGL 1.4, and my video card only supports 1.3 (?). Now, I have tried downgrading Compiz following this link: [url]

No luck so far.. OpenGL is still software only. Do I need to edit some ini-file or xorg.conf, or am I missing something here?

Fedora Hardware :: Unable To Use 12 With An Onchip Intel Video Card

Mar 30, 2010

I recently installed Fedora 12 and have tried it in different machines with different results. I am using HP laptops and can boot with no issues in one of them (HP NX7200), boot with compiz limitations in another (Compaq 6910p) and almost never get a proper boot on another (HP EliteBook 6930p). This last one is the one I want to check on, because even if I have got it to boot properly, most of the time it fails. I get to the login screen OK, but when trying to load the desktop, it usually fails and sends me back to the login screen. The driver in use is i915. I have tried to generate an Xorg.conf file and add a specific option, which I got from other people having the same issue. Here's the display section from my xorg.conf file:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "intel"
Option "Legacy3D" "true"

Looking into the last few lines from my Xorg.0.log file, I could see segmentation faults and messages that showed how the server was killed and the system would drop it. ometimes I can get this machine to boot (in fact, I am typing these lines from it). To achieve that, I run

su -c system-config-display

on one of the other laptops that work. That allows me to boot fine at least initially. Every time I get that right, I get a kernel crash message, which reports the following:

------------[ cut here ]------------
WARNING: at drivers/pci/dmar.c:616 check_zero_address+0x7d/0x191()
Hardware name: HP EliteBook 6930p
Your BIOS is broken; DMAR reported at address zero!

[code]....

If I reboot/shutdown, I won't be able to boot again until I repeat the same workaround.

Ubuntu :: Getting X To Work After Switching From Onboard Intel Video To A 5000 Series ATI Card?

Apr 25, 2010

I'm having trouble getting X to work after switching from onboard intel video to a 5000 series ATI card. Apparently I need to switch to a MESA or fglrx driver. I did a sudo apt-get install fglrx-driver and it installed but still no X. I'm currently using Karmic. I've tried to boot with a live CD which works fine and changed the xorg file manual but that was a mess.

When I start I get a checking battery state ... done and it stays there forever sometimes and sometimes I can login but without x. Typing startx gives me a long list that says check the xorg website. I've been looking around for a way to fix this and haven't been able to get it working.

General :: Windows - Linux Virtualization Choices With Graphic Acceleration / Video Card Support

Jun 5, 2011

I am in the process of building a new desktop machine for work and fun. I am looking to run a undecided flavor of Linux (guessing Ubuntu) as my primary OS and several Windows installs with a Windows 7 install for .net development and gaming as virtualized environments.

From my previous experiences with virtualization software in Linux I was never able to find an application that offered descent video card support / graphic acceleration etc. to be capable of playing any games within one of the virtualized environments. And since I will be investing quite a bit of money into this system for gaming I would naturally want to find the best option available to achieve this setup.

So Onto my question: Is there any virtualization software available for Linux that has full video card support, graphic acceleration and capable of taking advantage of everything the video cards have to offer within the virtualized environments?

Or am I stuck with running Windows 7 as my primary OS and using virtualization for Linux and the other OS's?

Also I have no preference on open/closed source and price range would be up to $175.00 to support at least 3 virtualized environments.
