I don't know what happened here, but running debian lenny and all of a sudden my icon theme is rodent, a decent chunk of icons are not showing up, and when I go to the icon changing panel they all look the same - like rodent! Icon themes I put in ~/.icons don't show up, and the icons in /usr/share/icons are permission as such:

On my laptop, I have stable installed. The original install was about two years ago, and I've just been keeping up with all of the stable updates. It is now an up to date Lenny. Over the months and years I have added several new icon themes to Gnome. I have noticed over time that several of the icon themes' icons have turned up missing. As you can see, icon themes Amaranth, Crux and Dropline Etiquette are missing their respective theme icons. The icon themes work, when selected, but the icon theme icon in the "Customize Theme" window never appears. Several of the other icon themes are the same. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the icon theme packs, but that doesn't fix it. I also have a desktop system of Debian stable with some of the same icon themes as on the laptop, but it does not have this problem. However, it is a much newer installation.
I installed Debian Squeeze (6) yesterday and noticed on the XFCE4 Setting Manager screen, there is no icon showing next to the Screensaver item. All other icons are present. Am I missing a file or package perhaps?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI would like to install a new icon theme without effecting my currently selected panel theme, as i think the Ambience panel theme looks really nice and unified but im not too keen on the Ubuntu-Mono icons.Is this easily possible, without going into my icon folders and replacing all the instances of one style for another?Are there any applications for gnome icon theming like OS X's Candybar?Im sure others must desire to change only the icons and perhaps it is really easy and this is why i couldnt dig anythin up on google, that or im a useless googler.

- I've made a new user account.
- .gtkrc-2.0 in my home is auto-generated, .gtkrc.mine does not exist.

I've got everything installed so far that I need and everything is customized down to the boot splash and the mouse theme. I'm using fluxbox on the newest debian (5.0.3). But for some reason I just CANT change the default icons theme for gtk apps like thunar. I've installed the gnome icons theme and that one works fine.
I've tried editing ~/.gtkrc-2.0.mine as well as ~/.gtkrc-2.0 by add the line gtk-icon-theme-name="theme" but it just doesn't work even after doing a restart. I've also tried putting the icons folder under /usr/share/icons as well as ~/.icons but still nothing...
i have fresh installed debian wheezy xfce4, and using slim to start it but i can't get reboot, shutdown and thunar can't open flash and others volumes. i using .xinitrc (exec ck-launch-session startxfce4)
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince I've made the switch to Systemd, I've been having various problems with LightDM.
The most interesting and frustrating problem is when I choose Shutdown or Restart from the XFCE4 shutdown menu, the XFCE4 session closes but then the lightDM greeter pops back up. The system doesn't even try to shut down.
Its as if restart and shutdown both act the same as the Logout button.
Im running XFCE4 4.12 (but same behaviour on 4.10). I have the latest LightDM and the latest Systemd.
I'm using the xfce4 desktop and I removed the default screensaver. The screen goes dim after 10 minutes and I was wanting to know if there is a config file where I can adjust the time.
Searching synaptic for "screensaver" shows xdg-utils installed which has xdg-sreensaver but I'm not sure if that is really the program that is dimming the screen. Anyway, I couldn't find a way to change the amount of time that it takes to do so.

I recently upgrade from wheezy to jessie. I had a problem with the icons and solved it. Now when i place the xfce4-power-manager-plugin on the panel, the plugin is using more RAM than it needs. Currently its using 960 MiB. Yesterday it used about 3 GiB of RAM. It doesn't happen if the plugin is removed from panel.

I am using xfce in squeeze and I like xfce4-governor-plugin. But this package is missing in debian, pls can you add this plugin to squeeze repository. xfce4-governor-plugin_0.1.0 works in squezze very well.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is about the Squeeze (0.2.3-8) archiver in Debian Squeeze. I may be missing a dependency, but is Squeeze incapable of opening files inside archives? I created a generic archive with "tar -cvf arxiv.tar file01.txt" and Squeeze segfaults when I try to double click to open the file (file01.txt) stored in the archive (arxiv.tar).
Also, after experimenting with Squeeze on the command line, it seems the "-n" option works, but results in an orphaned gui window; the "-x" option will only extract to a directory which already exists (which is o.k., but should be documented); and the "-d" option doesn't follow the general syntax in the man page "squeeze [OPTION...] [archive name]", which isn't bad, but sure does make it unnecessarily cumbersome to use, and also, the gui runs (blinks for a split section) for no clear reason. Now it would be silly to use command line squeeze over tar, but the man page for Squeeze begins with: "Squeeze - modern and advanced archive manager for Xfce".
I would like a gui archiver/extracter to use with Xfce4 without all the QA problems. Unless I'm doing something really wrong, this software doesn't seem to be ready for release at all, and the upstream version has not changed in a long time.
I can't mount my external hard drive with the graphic interface of my Xfce desktop anymore, since the latest upgrade.
The disk does show up, but when I try mounting it, I get a pop up window telling me that :
Failed to mount "My_Passport". Not authorized to perform operation.
First of all - to refresh icon on desktop i've had to install gamin instead fam (after this, icons on desktop was refresh correctly). I don't know that have connection, but who knows. Anyway - my problem. Things marked as red are duplicated entries in menu. How to simple delete them? Menu are not refreshing too - i unmark "Inne" (Others) in alacarte, but it's still visible.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm in Debian testing and I had Gtk+-3 from the apt-get. Now because I wanted to install Xnoise in Debian from source, I needed gtk+-2. So I installed gtk+-2 from the source. And after that Xnoise was installed and worked great. I've noticed that Xnoise theme was standard(gray). Note: I installed both of them to /usr/local(default/no prefix). But when I rebooted my computer, all Gnome themes was also gray. BTW: After reset I can't hear any sound in Xnoise, but this isn't the subject here. Therefor, I went to System->Preferences->Appearance and It tells me the following error in a yellow box(translated): "The theme won't seen as excepted because GTK+ Adwaita suit isn't installed."
I had the "clean theme" which is the default Gnome theme in Debian. Now all the themes have gone.... I can see only "Custom" which is ugly gray. How can I restore it?
how to use my downloaded themes, I used a default Xfce theme. The only issue I saw with that was that the Synamptic window did not take the selected theme, it was default. When I selected my downloaded them in the Appearance menu, Synamptic started using the selected theme, but everythign else (99% of windows) went back to the default light grey color. Although my dark theme is selected, only Synaptic (that I know of) is using it.

Plymouth does not work. What went wrong? or what more should I do to make it work.Also how do I install themes to plymouth, which are not there in the theme package? View 1 Replies View Relatedlxappearance won't let me change themes on Squeeze. It just doesn't do anything, neither preview, nor theme setting. Turns out this is a known bug, and allegedly fixed. Ppl are told to "upgrade" their package. However, in Squeeze it's still the old package, and it doesn't work. So I filed another new bug report, which they closed and told me to upgrade the package.
Upgrade? From Sid? What happened to fixing Testing so it can become the next stable? Not much stable if a major DE can't change themes. Not that it's a real problem, but it's
annoying. I purged lxappearance and manually installed its Sid counterpart, only to find out
the bug is still there.
Seems many icon themes still don't really play nice with gnome shell. They work totally fine for the most part, except the tray icons, they like to change them to their own monochrome icons which usually look bad (and most of the time not even all of them are changed). Is there a way to make any icon theme use the default gnome shell symbolic icons? Right now I am using elementary and its mostly fine, but it changed the battery icon to an ugly smaller version. I'd love to be able to change it to the default icon.

View 2 Replies View Relatedsince few days I have installed a fresh debian testing on my new laptop, I am using XFCE4 as DE, I noticed that when I use these themes: greybird, bluebird and albatross the GTK3 applications (mostly from gnome 3 stack) do not display correctly the application. I have another laptop with an older debian testing with XFCE4 and the GTK3 themes work properly. The only relevant difference between the old computer and the new one are the video driver, the older use radeonsi driver and newest the nvidia blob binary.
