Are KDE4 Screen Edge Actions supposed to not work in multi-display setup? I have two displays and Screen Edge Actions define and nothing happens when I move the pointer to an edge or a corner of the main display.
View 5 RepliesI would really like to configure compiz to emulate the Windows 7 edge actions. In case you haven't used Windows 7, the actions I'm interested in are: Drag window to top of the screen - maximize Drag window to left side of screen - take up the left half of the screen Drag window to right side of screen - take up the right half of the screen
Those are really the only ones I care about. I know I used to be able to do this in Karmic, but I forgot to back up my compiz settings when installing Lucid, and I can't remember how I had it configured before.
so have used the kde screen edge thingy once for Firefox with another application, but now every time that i launch Firefox it uses the half window option and have to maximise it every time. Is there any way to tell KDE that I wish to use maximised screen every time that Firefox launches.
Have tried putting Firefox window to middle so screen edge would maximise window, then close Firefox that it would save that setting, but not listening. Does it maybe have something to do with Kwin?
i recently bought a pre-Win7 loaded netbook, and soon discovered anytime i moved a window and even accidently bumped the top edge of the screen the window would instantly pop to full screen side to side and top to bottom..i figured it was just another Redmond 'innovation' and just got in the habit of not bumping the top..but, now on KDE i see exactly the same behavior...is this something new in 4.6 or, is it just on this machine (maybe a BIOS intercept) or what the heck is it??
i have looked for and not found a way to turn off this abomination in user interface 'innovation' in either openSUSE 11.4 or Lose7..(i'm kinda tired of having to click it down from full screen--this is a MULTI-threaded system and i do not use just one app at a time..)

Dual booting with Sluggish Loser7 on Acer Aspire One D255
In KDE I'm using KWin as windows manager and somewhere in the configuration I defined that KDE should rotate the desktop cube to the left or the right each time I move my mouse pointer to the far left or right of the screen.If I keep it there for about a second it rotates the desktop cube to the next desktop.I once activated this but find this very frustrating when I'm trying to reach buttons on the same side. So I want to disable this feature but I can't find it anywhere. I can't remember where that option was that activated this feature.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have opensuse 11.4 installed with both gnome and kde. These are the things I did before the problem:
1. changed the login screen to oxygen login screen
2. Then I logged off and when again logging in, I chose the session as Metacity.
But unfortunately, the the blank splash screen appeared and it didnt get into the desktop. Then I did a hard restart (By pressing the power button). Since then, I cannot login. The login screen is blank left only a active mouse pointer. Even booting into failsafe also didnt work.
By the way, I have chosen the option of directly logging in without password prompt at login. (during installation)
Only a week before i did a clean install since i corrupted the grub, dont wanna install again.
When I am using flash a lot of times it will just display a grey screen or just stops. I wanted to use Turbotax today but I can not because of this.

when I look for flash programs installed in Yast I get two things

I have 11.2 installed on my laptop but have a bit of an issue. When I boot it normally, it will not use my full screen, instead it only uses about a 5"x5" box in the center and displays there, but when i boot into failsafe, it uses the full screen.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi installed suselinux 11.3 on my lenovo t410 and i am using kde4. since then, i have the following problem: the screen freezes suddenly and the keyboard doesn't work anymore. i can move the mouse cursor, but clicking doesn't work. funny enough, the sound still works. the only way to restart the laptop is by pushing the power button for 10 seconds.
so far, there was no real pattern about the 'when does that happen?'. it happens sometimes when i am surfing on 'innocent' webpages like wikipedia or spiegel.de, not very often while watching videos. once it happened when i was only using kile for latex. it happened while i was experimenting with kdenlive. another time when i opened 2 vcl player in order to watch 2 videos simultanously.
sometimes there are days without trouble, sometimes i have to restart the laptop 5 times (like today...). is there a way to find out what is actually wrong? and how to get rid of the problem? (how do i create a proper bug report of these incidents?)

Both screen are identical 22" LCD LG W2246 Monitors.
I have Dual X-Display setup.
I am using Gnome Desktop.
The left hand screen displays everything, menus, panels, background and of course desktop launchers.
The right hand screen displays everything except the desktop launchers.
If I create a new launcher on the left it appears on the left desktop when created.
If I create a new launcher on the right it appears on the left and can not be dragged over to the right screen.
I put together a little computer recently to hook to a TV.The problem I'm having is that when I start the computer up and get to the desktop... the desktop is off the edges of the screen. I checked the resolution and it's 1920x1080.I can't see the panels my applications menu, as they're both off the edge of the screen. Is there anything that can be done to correct this? Also, the TV has no settings to correct this problem.
View 2 Replies View Relateda few days ago i had posted a note expressing my disgruntled reactions about numerous bugs in 10.04. since then i have been typing a good amount of on OO writer. and this has thrown up more issues with 10.04. after every few minutes of typing, pointer simply drags itself to one side of the screen ! sometimes this is towards the right end, sometimes towards the lower left etc. when i try to move it away from the edge, there is constant pulling back effect and it drags itself to the edge of the screen the moment i stop dragging in another direction. i had experienced this before but it didn't seem serious so i left it at that.
now doing any typing work is fast becoming irritating. the problem of course is rectified by a re-boot using which i am able to do using the keyboard. needless to say i had never experienced this problem with earlier ubuntu versions. comments anyone ? am i the only one with this issue ? how do i file a bug report ?
Ubuntu 10.04 Gnome: I have about 5 PCs at home, and all of them have this problem.
The default ubuntu install places top panel icons in the following order:

The power button completely scrolls off the edge, and half of the user-id scrolls off as well, to look like this:

I suspect this is a very common problem. How do I combat it?
My OpenSUSE 11.2 is working fine as samba server, no problems, but I have a problem with KDM.My default init runlevel is set to 5 and every time I try to login at KDM (KDE4), the monitor goes black and returns to the login screen.If I hit Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to console and start /usr/sbin/console-kit-daemon manually, press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to KDM login, everything is fine.What do I have to do to fix this issue?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem with some applications in 10.10. This applies so far to virtualbox and skype. When I try to start them, nothing happens. Virtualbox just flickers the edge of the screen. Virtualbox has worked before, and i'm reluctant to delete it as I have another machine installed. Skype has never worked, and even when I have reinstalled, the same happens.

After browsing the internet with Firefox, there appears a peculiar problem: if I move the pointer to a certain area of the screen, I can't click (left, right, middle) nor use mouse wheel. The area can be of variable size, but usually it's small, in the lower part of the screen, it's x dimension greater than y one (a horizontally placed rectangle). The problem doesn't go away when I restart Firefox (obviously it does when I reboot). It obstructs any window under it (I can't even click on the desktop where 'it' is). It's as if there is an invisible window that 'steals' focus when I move the mouse over it. I'm on 11.04, Classic Ubuntu (Gnome 2.3x).
A quick UPDATE: dragging an icon and dropping it on the said area behaves as if I dragged an item and dropped it where it doesn't belong (i.e. it just slowly returns to it's original position). Also, I tried killing it with Force Quit applet, but only my desktop reloaded.
I have two monitors set up on my Asus N61J laptop, but have a weird problem:When I move the mouse to right-hand edge of the Left (Primary) screen, it disappears. To get it back, I have to either keep moving it to the next screen, or move it over something that will cause it to change shape.It also happens if I move it to the left-hand edge the Right (Secondary) screen. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? It's a little annoying, as it makes it hard to select the Logout/Shutdown/Status menu

I'm not sure what to call the semi-transparent sidebar with a random collection of unconfigurable icons, but I don't think it's working properly.
1. When I move my mouse to the left edge of the screen, it doesn't always appear. Sometimes I have to move my mouse back and forth, back and forth, several times.
2. What it's doing right now is even worse... it appears, but as soon as I move the mouse a *little* bit to the right to actually click an icon, it disappears.
What is causing this? Surely it's a bug? How do I make the sidebar the absolute top priority for the screen edge so that it always catches it and appears? how do I configure it? I can't right-click on the sidebar itself. I can right-click and remove some icons. Other icons, like the grayed-out (but still active) "recent files" thing cannot be removed.
I have 2 monitors my main one working fine, my second one plugged in a usb to VGA adapter displays a purple screen with ubuntu on it and 5 dots but does not go any further than that. In display settings it can not find my second monitor either. Any way to get Ventrilo client on ubuntu. I am using Ubuntu 10.10.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I use the function hibernate or sleep - or just generally close my lid on my laptop, my laptop displays a black screen when I open the lid again - though it is turned on.
Basically, it hibernates/sleeps the laptop when I close the lid. When I open the lid though, it turns on the laptop, but brings me a black screen.

I successfuly installed Ubuntu 11.04 through the NetInstall option on an Aspire 3810T laptop.
Using the default option, the laptop boots OK, I can ssh to it OK, but the screen on the host just displays a blinking cursor. I assume the stock Ubuntu doesn't have the right display driver:

I have a Logitech VX Revolution, and I would like to change the "search/find" button to be used to middle click as opposed what it currently does, opening a new google tab in firefox. The mouse settings in System Settings does not have a tab for editing what the buttons do. (I thought there should be a Logitech tab, but I guess that is for USB only)

Well, I just got back from the Pepsi Center after watching the Denver Nuggets NBA basketball team look silly against the Dallas Mavericks. 4.5 hours later and I still have a black screen. Was it Einstein who said, "it is insanity to do the same thing, the same way, over and over and expect a different result"? I feel I will been testing that hypothesis soon.
I have been running 8.04LTS on a Sony Pentium III with Intel 810 chipset as a desktop system but with the servers installed so I could prototype web sites. The updates two days ago (Feb 23) have broken my theme display and screensaver. I can't get the background image to display like it used to do and none of the Applications Menu icons are showing. I have a second 8.04LTS system on a P4 Intel motherboard that got the same updates and is working fine, nothing broke that I can see.
I tried to use the 'Screens and Graphic' application to set the screen back to what I wanted but it wouldn't 'stick'. I finally hand edited xorg.conf so that it would boot up in a screen that I could use. Still, the 'X' close and min/max icons in the window corners still don't show. This makes it inconvenient to use though it still works as a web server. I dont' know where to look from here.
Well this problem has been here since Lucid. When I start up my computer and select Ubuntu, I get a blinking underscore for about most of the start up time for Ubuntu. Then It quickly shows the nice Ubuntu Loading Screen (Plymouth) for about two seconds, then it gets to the login screen. I am using the Open Source ATI drivers, I believe the open drivers are called "radeon".
