OpenSUSE :: Kde Screen Edge Thingy Once For Firefox With Another Application
Jun 9, 2011
so have used the kde screen edge thingy once for Firefox with another application, but now every time that i launch Firefox it uses the half window option and have to maximise it every time. Is there any way to tell KDE that I wish to use maximised screen every time that Firefox launches.
Have tried putting Firefox window to middle so screen edge would maximise window, then close Firefox that it would save that setting, but not listening. Does it maybe have something to do with Kwin?
Are KDE4 Screen Edge Actions supposed to not work in multi-display setup? I have two displays and Screen Edge Actions define and nothing happens when I move the pointer to an edge or a corner of the main display.
i recently bought a pre-Win7 loaded netbook, and soon discovered anytime i moved a window and even accidently bumped the top edge of the screen the window would instantly pop to full screen side to side and top to bottom..i figured it was just another Redmond 'innovation' and just got in the habit of not bumping the top..but, now on KDE i see exactly the same behavior...is this something new in 4.6 or, is it just on this machine (maybe a BIOS intercept) or what the heck is it??
i have looked for and not found a way to turn off this abomination in user interface 'innovation' in either openSUSE 11.4 or Lose7..(i'm kinda tired of having to click it down from full screen--this is a MULTI-threaded system and i do not use just one app at a time..)
dd CAVEAT: http://is.gd/bpoMD [NNTP via openSUSE 11.4 [2.6.37.6-0.5] + KDE 4.6.0 + Thunderbird 3.1.10] Dual booting with Sluggish Loser7 on Acer Aspire One D255
In KDE I'm using KWin as windows manager and somewhere in the configuration I defined that KDE should rotate the desktop cube to the left or the right each time I move my mouse pointer to the far left or right of the screen. If I keep it there for about a second it rotates the desktop cube to the next desktop.I once activated this but find this very frustrating when I'm trying to reach buttons on the same side. So I want to disable this feature but I can't find it anywhere. I can't remember where that option was that activated this feature.
when I press sound +/- button of my keyboard this gui thingy appears on the middle of my screen. Its transparent black, there is a speaker icon on the middle of it this thingy; [URL] ps: I don't want to kill or close it, I just want to know what is it. Which process which software and how can I hack it
The attachment shows little black artefacts around the edges of some images. I don't often see this, but have done since installing Meerkat. If you visit:
[URL]
you will see that the first image certainly does not have any black broken edges. If I step away from the page and return to it, the artefacts does not always disappear.I've got an ATI X1300 card that I've had to switch modesetting off for, otherwise starting wine apps or totem will cause the screen to flash black briefly.
I'm running OpenSuse 11.2 KDE 3 Initially FireFox was absolutely fine, But recently It became utterly slow. I searched plenty of forums and tweaked the about:config and played around with ipv6. Some threads suggested downgrading some x-video thingy coz of an update sadly I haven't got a clue how to downgrade, in addition all these threads were talking about rather old OpenSuse versions. I installed the newest Nvidia driver as some suggested it might have to do with the desktop effects, actually I just turned them off (literally just this moment) and FF ran utterly quick, hmm I would like to keep em though. Does this mean i need to downgrade that xorg-X11-driver-video thingy? I don't seem to have a downgrade option I can only update delete and so on...When clicking on versions it doesn't show any of the 7.3 only 7.4s. I kind of depend on some firefox plug-ins which is why I would rather not use another browser..
I am using: Firefox 3.6.14 from buildservice. 3.6.13 from buildservice did work flawlessly. System 11.1 KDE3.5 release 21.13.1
Error message when starting from terminal:
Code: user@linux-2c5j:~> firefox
Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.2.14 and 1.9.2.14. What I have tried: deinstallation of mozilla and reinstall. Does not change anything.
I put together a little computer recently to hook to a TV.The problem I'm having is that when I start the computer up and get to the desktop... the desktop is off the edges of the screen. I checked the resolution and it's 1920x1080.I can't see the panels my applications menu, as they're both off the edge of the screen. Is there anything that can be done to correct this? Also, the TV has no settings to correct this problem.
How can I change the MIME/application associations in KDE so that Firefox and other GTK apps see these settings. Right now in Firefox, PDFs open in GIMP and directories in easytag.
a few days ago i had posted a note expressing my disgruntled reactions about numerous bugs in 10.04. since then i have been typing a good amount of on OO writer. and this has thrown up more issues with 10.04. after every few minutes of typing, pointer simply drags itself to one side of the screen ! sometimes this is towards the right end, sometimes towards the lower left etc. when i try to move it away from the edge, there is constant pulling back effect and it drags itself to the edge of the screen the moment i stop dragging in another direction. i had experienced this before but it didn't seem serious so i left it at that. now doing any typing work is fast becoming irritating. the problem of course is rectified by a re-boot using which i am able to do using the keyboard. needless to say i had never experienced this problem with earlier ubuntu versions. comments anyone ? am i the only one with this issue ? how do i file a bug report ?
I have a strange problem with some applications in 10.10. This applies so far to virtualbox and skype. When I try to start them, nothing happens. Virtualbox just flickers the edge of the screen. Virtualbox has worked before, and i'm reluctant to delete it as I have another machine installed. Skype has never worked, and even when I have reinstalled, the same happens.
I was playing a game called "BZFlag", it's a full screen game, and I saw someone sent me an message on skype and I pressed "alt+tab" trying to get out from the game... but nothing happens, i was still in game, and i couldn't quit the game, the game wasn't catching my keyboard input at all.
I have two monitors set up on my Asus N61J laptop, but have a weird problem:When I move the mouse to right-hand edge of the Left (Primary) screen, it disappears. To get it back, I have to either keep moving it to the next screen, or move it over something that will cause it to change shape. It also happens if I move it to the left-hand edge the Right (Secondary) screen. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? It's a little annoying, as it makes it hard to select the Logout/Shutdown/Status menu
KDE and Windows7 both have a nice feature/setting that lets you maximize a window to half the screen by dragging it to the left or right edge of the screen.
I just installed the brand new 11.4 on an old Dell Optiplex GX280 box. After the proxy been set, I tried to open firefox but then, all jumps back to the log in screen. The same happens when I try to open pgadmin. After logging in, all the open windows are gone.
I'm not sure what to call the semi-transparent sidebar with a random collection of unconfigurable icons, but I don't think it's working properly.
1. When I move my mouse to the left edge of the screen, it doesn't always appear. Sometimes I have to move my mouse back and forth, back and forth, several times.
2. What it's doing right now is even worse... it appears, but as soon as I move the mouse a *little* bit to the right to actually click an icon, it disappears.
What is causing this? Surely it's a bug? How do I make the sidebar the absolute top priority for the screen edge so that it always catches it and appears? how do I configure it? I can't right-click on the sidebar itself. I can right-click and remove some icons. Other icons, like the grayed-out (but still active) "recent files" thing cannot be removed.
I got sick to DEATH of Adobe AIR and TweetDeck screwing up constantly, and then Adobe announces there will be no more Adobe AIR for Linux. Fine, screw 'em, I'll switch to something else. So I hunt around for the options, most of which suck. Then I discover Choqok is already installed on my machine (11.4). Except the POS doesn't work.
To use it, I have to authenticate with my Twitter account. So I click Add, select Twitter, it pops up the dialog. I leave the alias as Twitter, click the authenticate with Twitter button. The Firefox icon pops up and bounces around - but Firefox is already running. So nothing happens! No Twitter access, no page loaded, nothing. I shut down Firefox, try it again. Same deal. As usual, no one bothered to test this POS software before releasing it. how to get this **** to authenticate to Twitter in the absence of ANY useful documentation for this junk?
Is it possible that Firefox (downloaded via yast from OpenSuse repository) recently has been equipped, infected with a BACKDOOR, TROJAN HORSE?
1. As long as i only startup Firefox everything is ok.This seems very logical, cause the firewall shuts out all incomming trafic.
2. As soon as I enter an url, and the internet page start to appear on screen, the **** happens...When receiving a webpage, the firewall allows incomming traffic over the HTTP connection from the webserver BACK into my computer..
3. Then..within 3-5 minutes, without touched my keyboard or mouse,my harddisk is starting to get VERY busy. It looks like someone is remotely searching my harddisk for something
This "very busy harddisk-search behaviour" misteriously disappears again when i close Firefox!
Additional Information: I use the following firefox-plugins
- Noscript,1.2.0.4 - Flashgot,1.9.6.9 - SEO Doctor 1.0 <- switched off - Wedeveloper 1.1.8 <- switched off
[code]....
How can i "monitor" the Firefox application behaviour? Is there a way to "look under the hood" to see
- What Firefox is starting up on childprocesses?
- Which activities are being done by which application, task, daemon on my harddrive during this "strange behaviour?"
I have a 3g globetrotter (pcmcia card). This card works great in ubuntu but when I plug it into the same laptop running suse 11.3 and open network manager the laptop locks up.
Recently I got a lenovo laptop and installed opensuse 11.3 from live usb distribution, well the issue is when I want to listen to some music and plug in my headphones, the laptop speakers do not turn off automatically.
I am using Nokia x2-00 phone. I am able to connect to the EDGE/GPRS using Blueman. However, if I use the USB cable along with KNetworkManager with the same dialing number and APN I am unable to connect. What might be the cause?
I would like to use two monitors with my desktop, so connected them the other day and it worked straight away, which is good but... The monitor configuration app always want the primary monitor to be on the left hand side, thus it always extend my desktop right. Can I do anything to extend my desktop to the left instead of to the right so I can have background application on the screen to the left?
I've downloaded VideoLan (VLC) via Yast but the icon was placed in the audio folder. How do I move it to the video player folder? Also, where are additional icons stored? I run SuSE 11.2 (boxed version) with KDE.
When I started using Fedora (with Gnome) a week ago, I noticed a key symbol in the system tray, or however you call that in the linux world ;-). I can't remember what it was called, but it appeared after I loaded a program or administrative function that required root privileges. If I understand correctly there's a certain timeout after you put in the root password that allows you to run more than one program with elevated privileges so you don't have to put in the root password all the time. I remember reading somewhere that you can change that timeout. This key symbol basically was a "screw the timeout, i'm done being root".
This key symbol doesn't appear anymore though and I'd really like it back. I'm pretty sure, I didn't do anything to make it go away, as I didn't play around with any security settings.
It was a little tricky to search for this as I can't recall the actual name of this... key thingy..
download anything (obviously). Can someone walk me through how to get it back online. I didn't have audio after upgrading and i ended up deleting the internet connection thing. i cant download from terminal/package manager etc. I tried rolling back but it still doesnt work.
