OpenSUSE Install :: Update Keeps Looping Back?

Apr 5, 2010

I've had openSUSE for a week. The update says that there are 10 updates. When I run it, first I get a flag saying that something can't be removed. Then when I run the rest of the up date, it loops back and starts over. I need a patch to fix the patch that fixes the patch that...etc.

Sep 1, 2011

i have noticed that if vista is not the active partition, hybernate does not work. it just goes black and then back to the user icon screen to log back in. another "slight" problem was that i was not able to apply a service pack. after restoring vistas dominance i was able to install the pack. is there any other work arounds for hybernate? even though you might not be interested in cleaning up after microsoft.

OpenSUSE :: How To Roll Back Part Of An Update

Sep 25, 2010

opensuse v11.3
linux 2.6.34.7-0.3-desktop x86_64

The most recent update that produced the kernel version above is bit of a disaster for me. The open source radeon driver does not work with VirtualBox (it crashes at startup), and the ATI fglrx driver either builds without acceleration (or the X server loads it that way?) or fails to build.

Is there a way to undo some (or all, if necessary) of the update?

OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Edit Back Device.map File

Dec 23, 2010

I've got myself in a bit of a pickle.I've got 1 hard disk drive and was trying to load a second external drive.I tried to mount the 2nd (external) drive by editing /boot/ grub/ device.map but I must have made an error, because now it boots directly into sda1 openSUSE 11.1 and when I try to look at SDA2/SDA3 it say's Invalid System Type. Presumably because they're formatted with Ext4. So I can't edit back my device.map file. What I want to do is boot into SDA3 OpenSUSE 11.3. Would anybody know why it's only booting to SDA1 and/or have any suggestions to get me back booting to SDA3? This may be a 2 step process, because I may have to boot to SDA2 first so I can edit back my /boot/grub/device.map on SDA3 before finally booting to SDA3.

I had installed VirtualBox through Yast and decoded to delete. After deleting the /boot directory looked like this, pointing now to the desktop kernel.

I went into YAST and deleted all kernel entries that contained desktop, trying to get back to the original configuration.

After doing this, the /boot directory now looks like this.

Is there any way to get back to the original kernel configuration without having to do a complete installation?

OpenSUSE Install :: Back Up Entire System While Still Login Into SUSE?

Apr 28, 2010

Main reason I am using openSUSE currently is because my Windows system's went bad. I haven't been able to easily restore and will probably have to do clean windows install. I want to make sure my entire openSuse system (application/OS setting/etc) backup so I can easily restore of it fast. Since this type of back takes awhile, I would preferably like do this while I am still logged into SUSE. I am where to disk cloning thing like clonezilla, but looks like I would need turn of my system entirely to get this done.

Currently my SUSE root and home are in a partition with another NTFS partition on my hard drive. I really don't want to use 'dd' to clone the entire hard disk. I would much rather store of required partitions in other locations. Hopefully, there is easy to get this done without too much of effort and time.

OpenSUSE Install :: System Resets And Just Boots Back To The EFI Shell Again

Oct 13, 2010

I am trying to install OpenSuse 11.3 x64 via EFI. I successfully performed a Windows 7 install and I'm trying to do the same thing with OpenSuse now. My system boots into the EFI shell. I can cd into the /efi/boot/ folder and run bootx64.efi. Immediately after I press enter I am presented with an ELILO boot: prompt which either eventually times out and continues or I can press enter and have it continue. Either way my system resets and just boots back to the EFI shell again.

Running bootx64.efi worked for starting the Windows 7 setup but it doesn't appear to be working with OpenSuse. Is this a broken feature or am I doing something wrong?

There is no interruption of any other task like typing. Card: FeForce FX5200 card. Can someone please point me to a solution? Also, my monitor (Philips 150S) is not recognized. General :: Looping Through Csv File To Calculate Avg/min/max?

Sep 1, 2010

I have a csv file (id, loc, timestamp, impressions) that I need to derive some low-level calculations from. Im ok with basic sort and grep operations, but this one is challenging my feeble scripting skills (normally Id throw it into a spreadsheet, but in this case Id like to ultimately create a script that I could automate). Ive already used cat/sort to order the csv file first on location and then timestamp so it looks like this:

Abt001, AA, 2009-01-01 10:51:00, 231
Cup002, AA, 2009-01-01 10:54:00, 3
Saf001, AB, 2009-01-01 10:51:00, 25

[code]....

What Id like to do is output to file a record of the total, min, and max number of impressions for each location. , e.g.

AA6504 3231
AB252525
AC37925109
ZZ35512341

how to do this and Im kind of stuck on how to approach it I think the combined steps of looping through the locations along with the min/max/sum calculations are throwing me. Eventually Id also like to do additional calculations like average, ect. but I think I can figure that out on my own if I can just get this part down.

I tried the "online update" using Yast2 but apparently (according to Yast) there is nothing at all to be patched on my system. I tried to click on the Firefox-3.5.5 rpm in the repository web-interface and open it using "install software" but the process aborts because of unresolved dependencies. Is there an easy way to update software without having to download/install every dependency manually?
