OpenSUSE Hardware :: Intel 915 Graphic Works Again After Downgrading

May 26, 2009

...xorg-x11-driver-video from 7.4-19.5.1 (i586) back to 7.4-19.4 (i586). Before that (and seems after a fatal upgrade of my graphic driver) I could only start the graphic surface (sax2?/xorg?) in the save modus of suse 11.1. helps others (with intel onboard graphic controller in their notebook) also.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.1 To 11.2 - Update Or New Installation With Intel 915 Graphic?

Apr 14, 2010

I should install a new openSuse 11.2 or if I should make an Update-Installation from DVD (see openSUSE 11.2 Installation Quick Start Installation Mode: Select Mode - New Installation / Update / [...]) or an Update Installation via Yast. Now I am using openSuse 11.1 and Gnome 2.24.1 (mostly, 1 account is using KDE) and Kernel Linux 2.6.27.45-01.1-pae. "/home" is on an separated partition (as part of an extended partition).

Contra new installation?:

- I have an Laptop (Samsung x20) with integrated intel 915 graphic and an very hight resolution (1400x1050). The monitor's resolution is not listed in the bios of the graphic cart/solution. Because of that I had many problems with my fist installation of suse/openSuse linux.

- Will I have problems to keep my old accounts?

Pro new installation?:

- Sometimes funny system reports (mostly about ICE).

- I have been logged in as root in Gnome (as I had some problems with (no) audio, the digital optical audio out is still not running).

- I think the fist installation was a few years ago maybe I had been to often "bold".

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Use Core I3 Intel Clarkdale Graphic Controller

May 22, 2010

I own a MB with H55 Chipset and a Core i3 540 with openSuse 11.2.I tried kernel 2.6.32 and 2.6.34 and the newest Xorg delete the xorg.conf and got a fine picture on the screen (same with xorg.conf and device "intel") Even HD MKV is possible. But in KDE I can only open one programm. If I try to open a second programm the desktop disappear and I get the KDM screen and have to login again and the former started programm is gone. Only if I start the programms via an open Terminal window the programms will run. I tried to delete all .kde(x) directories, but its the same after restart.Only if I use driver "fbdev" in the xorg.conf I get no problem. But then the screen is very slow.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Alsa Based Software Multi-band Graphic Audio Frequency Equalizer That Works With 11.x?

May 15, 2010

Does anyone know of an alsa based software multi-band (10 or more) graphic audio frequency equalizer that works with Suse 11.x? To be clear, I don't mean an equalizer within an audio or video player. One that can be used with any sound application, that works between the output of the player and the output plugs on a motherboard or sound card.

Debian Multimedia :: DisplayLink USB Graphic Adapter With Intel I915

Jun 6, 2014

I'm trying to set up an HP DisplayLink USB graphic adapter on Debian 6 to be paired with the notebook's integrated Intel i915 video card. I use a custom 3.11.1 kernel in which the options for VGA arbitration, fbdev framebuffer and DisplayLink driver are enabled as built-in, not as modules.

The device works and I'm able to correctly run an X session on a DVI monitor connected to my notebook thru this USB graphic adapter. However, I'm still not able to use both the DisplayLink device and the integrated Intel i915 at the same time under X, with the purpose to extend the desktop area over the two screens, side by side.

During a boot, if the DisplayLink adapter is detected over the USB cable, the X-server's Intel driver is repudiated as shown in the logs below, and the main notebook's screen stops working with X. (nonetheless, it still functions on the "Alt-F1" text terminal).

Relevant portion of /var/log/Xorg.0.log
In particular, it shows: [ 2509.084] (II) UnloadModule: "intel"
Code: Select all[  2509.061] (II) FBDEV: driver for framebuffer: fbdev
[  2509.061] (II) intel: Driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets: i810,

        E7221 (i915), 915GM, 945G, 945GM, 945GME, Pineview GM, Pineview G,

[Code] ....

In case it is required, this is the relevant excerpt of my xorg.conf. In my full xorg.conf file installed locally, no other options deal with graphics or screens.

Code: Select all# All down here is required for DisplayLink
# Depth must be 16 bits for all the screens to support DisplayLink

Debian Hardware :: Graphic Card Intel HD4400 Not Recognized

Sep 15, 2014

I'm trying to make things work on my laptop. Almost done, but there is one hardware issue left. I have a Intel HD4400 graphic card. But it seems that it is not recognized. I had an issue loading Gnome3.

Code: Select allGNOME 3 Failed to Load

Unfortunately GNOME 3 failed to start properly and started in the fallback mode.

This most likely means your system (graphics hardware or driver) is not capable of delivering the full GNOME 3 experience

Another thing :
Code: Select all$ grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[    29.117] (EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument

Also, if I go in "applications" ->"system tools" -> "Preferences" -> "System settings" and then in "Details, under Graphics I have "Drivers : unknown", "Experience : Fallback".

And as a consequence, I can't use dual-screen. If I plug another sreen, I have an exact copy, not even with a good resolution.

I search on the web for solutions, but I didn't understand much. I don't know what Xorg is, x-window, etc...

OpenSUSE :: Kde Apps Won't Work After Downgrading 11.4->11.3?

Mar 25, 2011

after being not so satisfied with opensuse 11.4 (worked really slow at times), i decided to downgrade to 11.3. But now, some applications won't start. When starting personal kontact, i only got a notification that akonadi server is starting but it doesn't progress. Only thing I can do is to kill the app.Same for Clementine (amarok-like player), but here it doesn't even try to start. So, I was thinking to delete all the settings folders concerning these apps in my home folder, but it doesn't change anything. I did so by searching for *kmail* *kontact* and *clementine* and erased those folders. Could it be that I forgot some? Some folders under some different names? General :: Create A Bootable USB Key That Works On Mac (Intel 64 Bit CPU) Hardware?

Jan 23, 2011

I'm trying to create a bootable USB key with Linux (debian) and that can be booted on Macintel hardware. I have read that MAC's EFI can only boot GPT GUID formatted disks. I'm desperately trying to find a good tutorial which explains how to create such a key. Here what I have done so far:

create a GUID partition on te key using Linux GNU parted
create a HFS+ or ext3 partition on the key, with the boot flag on
install a Linux .iso with unetbootin

While all steps were successfull and in some cases I could even boot on a PC, the step of booting on Macintel software failed (on a macbook). I need to precise that I holded the "alt" key while booting the mac and the only visible bootable disk was the hard disk.

PS: I have tried with rEFIt as well. In one case I had a "Windows" icon but it then failed to boot with a message like "no system found"

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Plasma Crash Solved By Downgrading NVIDIA Drivers

Jan 30, 2011

It's been mentioned several times in this forum already that downgrading to NVIDIA driver version 256.53 can solve random-seeming plasma crashes (the error dialog box usually mentions a "floating point error").So, I upgraded openSUSE 11.3 to KDE 4.5.5 today and couldn't add a clock - any clock - to my desktop or panel without a plasma crash. I had been using the latest NVIDIA kernel modules (v260.19) from the openSUSE NVIDIA repo. I uninstalled them, installed the gcc, make, and kernel-devel packages, and manually installed the latest NVIDIA driver (270.18). No joy; same crash. So I installed version 256.53. And...it solved the problem.

So, to underscore the point, if you have a recent NVIDIA card and you're having random plasma widget crashes, try downgrading your NVIDIA driver.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Only Works Once Per Install (Intel 3945 - Full Details)

Mar 25, 2010

Windows crashed yet again so I thought I'd switch to Ubuntu. Install of 9.10 went flawlessly, everything looked great and worked perfectly. Next day after restart the wireless wouldn't connect. I looked around for solutions and used a wired connection to install wicd and suddenly wireless worked again. But next day after restart wireless wouldn't connect again -

I keep getting a popup asking for my WPA key despite the fact that I know the key is entered correctly. I decided to install 10.04, thinking maybe that would help. It didn't look like wireless was working but after a restart it worked and it worked again after another restart! Fantastic! But today, I'm back to square one. Using Windows again.

TL;DR - Wireless won't connect to the network which it can definitely see - repeatedly presents "Enter WPA key" prompt despite key being correct and wireless working flawlessly under Windows.
