OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Mount Drives After Upgrade

Jan 10, 2011

I just upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3, everything seems to be working fine except that my other hard disk partitions are un mountable as my normal user. I used to be able to click on the drive in Dolphin and it would ask for the root password to mount it, but now it gives the error that the action is denied by org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed auth_admin_keep_always <-- (action, result) What do I do to fixed this? I have checked as many settings as I can and can't find it. I would like to avoid editing the Policykit.conf file manually if possible (if that even is the right file).

I did the latest update on the opensuse 11.4 other day and since then my USB drive is not mounting. initially I thought its gone because my son dropped on the floor. I have all the VMs in this drive and my main laptop is with OpenSuse 11.4

OpenSUSE Install :: Where Is Package Group Development (kdevelop4)

Jan 15, 2010

I hunted down kdevelop4 through yast. I found it finally by entering "Integrated Development Environment" in the search text box, clicking "Description" only, and clicking Search. I'm backtracking now to figure out how to find it and other development tools/ide's quicker in the future.I clicked the Technical Data tab for kdevelop4 and in the details, "Package Group" shows "Development/Tools/IDE".In Yast, I then clicked on the "Package Groups" tab and searched on the left-hand side for "Development". But it's now there.

In OpenSuSE 10.3, when I viewed the Package Groups tree structure, there was a node, "Development" which contained kdevelop3. But I can't seem to find the "Development" Package Group in OpenSuSE 11.2.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Unable To Mount CD / DVD?

Mar 18, 2010

My CD/DVD-drive used to work when I started using OpenSuse, but lately when I try to play a CD or DVD the icon doesn't show up and I can't open the disc using vlc.

It sounds that the system tries to mount the disc over and over and I get an error message that says "Couldn't mount audio disc (in Swedish)" (if that's what I'm trying to do) and it says something about a dbus error. Sometimes nothing happens at all when I put a CD in the drive.

I'm using OpenSuse 11.2 and Gnome 2.28.2 on an Acer Timeline 5810TG.

OpenSUSE :: Unable To Mount NTFS Partitions?

Jun 24, 2011

I first noted a few weeks ago I couldn't mount my NTFS partitions using dolphin. At the time I was having problems with windows, so I thought - naturally, they are marked as dirty, no biggie-

However, I still can't mount them and I know they are clean. I get the error: "filesystem is neither well know nor in /proc/filesystem nor in /etc/filesystems" which is strange since I can mount just fine in the console using mount -t ntfs-3g.

OpenSUSE Network :: Unable To Mount The NFS Entries?

Aug 1, 2010

been searching google and forums for about 5 hours now, and can't figure this one out, I have a server running opensuse 11.2 sharing various NFS directories, I have one laptop that is running 11.2 and I have no problem getting my NFS shares from the server. On my other laptop that is running 11.3, I had the shares working at one point, but changed things around and added a new HD to the server, now I can NOT get this thing to work, I have tried everything I could find to read on it. Started and stopped the NFS server and exportfs -a, and checked /var/logs/messages on server and nothing about this laptop (192.168.0.102 suse 11.3) trying to connect. On this laptop, I have deleted all the shares, and tried to re-add them but still get this error everytime.on server /etc/export:

Ubuntu Servers :: Mount NFS Shares By LDAP Group?

I've been trying to set up a Linux-only network and currently have a working DHCP, DNS, LDAP and NFS server, with a client that can authenticate with the LDAP server and a central /home folder. However, if I wanted to share folders on the NFS server, how would I make the share available to, for example, a particular group of users in the directory?I've never used NIS(+) on a network, but believe you can add a 'group' of users in the /etc/exports file--simples!Does anyone know of the best way to do it (even better anyone who is doing this in a production environment)?

Please note that the error only occurs for internal partitions, and external drives work fine.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 - Unable To Mount NFS Shares On Server

Jan 2, 2010

I have a Thecus NAS with nfs support running. Now I switched from OpenSUSE 10 to 11.2 on the client side and aren't able to mount my nfs shares. With SuSe 10.0 I didn't have any problems.

The /etc/exports:
/raid/home_nas1 192.168.0.24/31(rw,no_root_squash,sync,anonuid=99,anongid=99,no_subtree_check)
/raid/soundandmore 192.168.0.24/31(rw,no_root_squash,sync,anonuid=99,anongid=99,no_subtree_check)

On the client side I'm able to see the shares:
showmount -e nas1
Export list for nas1:
/raid/home_nas1 192.168.0.24/31
/raid/soundandmore 192.168.0.24/31

The client address:
inet addr:192.168.0.27

I'm using nfs-3:
mount -t nfs nas1:/raid/soundandmore/mnt
mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting nas1:/raid/soundandmore

General :: Change Default Mount Group Of USB Drive In Ubuntu

Aug 10, 2011

I have a shared, family computer which has USB drives attached to it. Multiple users can be logged in, that sort of thing. All of the users have been added to "Access external storage devices automatically", however I've noticed that when one user plugs in a USB device, the other users can't see it without unmounting/remounting. When a drive is mounted, it seems to mounted at:

drwx------ 5 jdoe jdoe 4096 2011-08-10 12:03 DriveName/

What I want to do is change the default mount group settings, to:

drwxrwx--- 5 jdoe family 4096 2011-08-10 12:03 DriveName/

I know I can do this through fstab, but as far as I know that forces you to name the drive/mount point and that's not what I'm looking for, what if a user adds a NEW usb device and wants it shared with the other users?

Ubuntu :: Put A Line In /etc/fstab To Mount One Of Partitions With Owner And Group Not Root

Jan 9, 2010

According to a couple of different places, it's not possible for me to put a line in /etc/fstab to mount one of my partitions with owner and group not root; instead, I have to mount it in /etc/fstab, then chown & chgrp to my user. That seems ridiculously tedious and silly... is it true? I'm sure a short script could be written to get around it, but it seems obtuse for Linux not to allow that to be set in /etc/fstab.

General :: New Install Of SuSE - 8 Professional - Unable To Mount Root Fs On 08:01

Jan 24, 2011

I bought SuSE 8.0 professional a long time ago, while living in Germany. I have an old German laptop that currently has Win2K installed, and I would now like to replace Windows with Linux on it. The computer boots the initial CD fine and gives me a number of installation choices. If I do not add a "root=/dev/hda1" to the parameters it stops the installation with a "Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:01" and if that line is there the error message changes to 03:01.

Is this because the hard drive is already formatted to NTFS? Is there a way to delete the partition and create a new one from the Linux installation disks?
