When i start the install of the open suse linux 11.2 load the kernel but later my display is in black, i think that is my graphic card becouse in other linux only load linux without graphic mode, what i have to do for install open suse?, i can download a driver with the installer or something like?
View 4 RepliesI had this card on Ubuntu 10.10 and Mint 10 and with the video card driver installed, all movies where playing like I had a video card with 1 MB. When I was using the os generic video card movies played more better than with the video card driver enabled, but with the generic driver I did not had any graphic effects.Will CentOS use proper the nvidia driver or not?The video card is made by Gigabyte but has the nvidia chipset.

UPDATE:I've downloaded the correct drivers but it still says that my hardware does not support Desktop enhancements etc ... I think the GeForce 8600 XT just doesn't support 3D accelleration ... period.Can someone suggest a reasonably priced video card that is easy to install and which supports 3D Accelleration please?
I have a bit of a problem with the proprietary nvidia driver which I installed as a binary on suse 11.3, when I run the nvidia-settings gui it does not give any widescreen display modes as options. My monitor is an Acer x193w which will do 1440x900 but there is no option for that. The monitor is just listed as a generic CRT, and only 4x3 display modes are given. My card is a PNY Geforce 6200 AGP 512MB.

After a disk crash I reinstalled openSuSE 11.2 and as always downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for my geforce 8200 graphics.
Unlike all previous cases, this time the driver does not install. The contents of /var/log/nvidia-installer.log are below. The error refers to being unable to to locate version.h

I have just installed openSUSE 11.1 64 bit on my system. Subsequently registered to get an auto-update repo and auto-updated until no more updates were offered. Then I first tried YaST to install NVidia drivers from the NVidia repo (added their repo), but sax2 wouldn't recognize them. So I downloaded their 190. (beta) drivers, installed the kernel source code and gcc 4.3. Then I switched to a console (Ctrl+Alt+F1), closed the x server, ran the driver install as described (gcc 4.3 is installed). Installer said that all is fine (I checked the log to be sure). So I ran sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia, but the driver still isn't recognized.

The KDE User Guide says that a driver supporting version 1.2 is necessary. However the nvidia driver for eForce FX Go5200 seems to support only version 1.1.Is there a way to use both monitors with SUSE 11.2? I am quite desperate since for my work using only 1 monitor is definitely a handicap.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a new notebook, an ASUS K501UX, and I have encountered some problems installing Debian 8.3 on it.
In fact, already during the installation process it looks like there are some problems with the video card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M), since the lower part of the screen is just black (even if it still "exists", that is the mouse can go "behind" it and click the "next" or "cancel" buttons which are "covered" by the black stripe): [URL] ....
This problem persists also after the installation. Furthermore, since the screen has a 4k resolution (3640x2160) all icons, windows and texts are painfully small: [URL] ....
As you can see, however, if I take a screenshot all the desktop is visualized. This is what the screen actually looks like in the lower part: [URL] ....
I tried changing the resolution from the Settings, but apart from 3640x2160 no other options are available. Furthermore, the display is labelled as "Unknown display": [URL] ....
I then tried to change it with xrandr, but the output of xrandr command is the following:

I then looked around the web, and found that this is a problem related to the video card driver. So, I followed the DebianWiki on the subject to install the driver, namely I installed the nvidia-driver package and then configured xorg with nvidia-xconfig. However, rebooting Debian, all I got is a blank screen with a flashing pointer, and xserver not working at all (if I press Alt+F3 and login and then try startx I get a long list of deadly-sounding errors like "screen not found").
What should I do? Should I try installing the drivers from the NVIDIA website? I've read (also in the DebianWiki) that this can cause problems to the system. Or is it really a driver problem? Why doesn't it detect the screen?
I recently upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze. My graphic card is nVidia Corporation G86 [GeForce 8400M GT] (rev a1). Using lenny latest drivers from nvidia worked fine. I installed nvidia drivers using Debian packages 195.36.31-6 and latest driver from nvidia site (260.19.36) and also other nvidia drivers. The problem is when I start gdm3 I saw nvidia logo but then when it loads gdm3 it shows gdm3 screen with lot of black pixels and other random pixels and then the screen freezes. And the only thing I can do is restart using [alt]+[sysrq]+b.

I used to be a former Ubuntu user. I used Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat 64 bit. In Ubuntu, it was not recommended that I install the proprietary nVIDIA binary drivers because it would cause me to log into a TTY console upon reboot.
nVIDIA states that they have no plans to support Optimus technology in Linux at any time. Would it be recommended that I install the proprietary nVIDIA binary drivers in OpenSUSE 11.4 64 bit with GNOME? Will I get the same problem as in Ubuntu? How do I do this?

Except that this time, no! I turn on my pc this afternoon and more 3d effects. I run "Nvidia X Server Settings" which tells me I do not use the nvidia driver and must run as root the command "nvidia-xconfig," what I do. I restart X and no display at all, only the prompt in text mode!

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install OpenSuse 11.2 64bit on a new Dell Latitude E6410 notebook. This is the Intel i7 processor with 8 Gb of RAM and Nvidia NVS 3100M graphics. I can boot from my 64bit installer DVD, but once I choose either Live version, to test it out, or just go for Install, after the first selection screen where I can change the default video at the bottom, I just get a black screen, no video.
I can't find any info on installing Suse on this notebook, (I think its only be available for a couple of weeks now). What do I do to get the screen to show me the graphical installer, Or how do I make the KDE Live version run from the 64bit DVD. I also tried the 32bit version DVD, but it wouldn't give graphics either, so it seems like an X issue.

Researching how to resolve that error and I can't find anything relevant to openSUSE 11, closest version being openSUSE 9.Lastly, I've tried this SDB:NVIDIA drivers and for some reason it does not generate the xorg.conf file. At least that's what I am concluding. I go through the steps, reboot the system and boot only to a command prompt. Navigating to /etc/X11/ there is no xorg.conf and I have to copy xorg.conf.install to xorg.conf to get back into the Desktop.

It then says that I lack the cc tool for gcc. If I update gcc, it says that the gcc version used to compile the kernel mismatch my gcc version. If I ignore that error, it says that it can't find my kernel source.
View 10 Replies View RelatedFedora Core 8 did not recognize my Geforce 7150M display adapter (in a HP DV6000 laptop), neither did Fedora Core 10 I tried yesterday although this laptop is now already over one year old (I have used Vista because it works out of the box but it sucks as you might have guessed). That could be something I'd like to complain about but I choose not to, I simply want to know how to install Fedora 10 from a live CD (that is all I have now, no DVDs and not too much cash to buy some..) Live CD boots and I can access command line. If I have understood correctly, Nvidia proprietary driver supports my display adapter but it is not included in live cd so I could use X after installation. Problem is that I don't know how to successfully run the installer from text mode. I tried to execute 'anaconda' but it cannot find packages to install when it comes to that. There seem to be no instructions how to install from a live CD that I could find using Google. For sure someone knows what command to execute to begin installation?

I'm running right now with the 'nvidia' driver in 1920x1200 res with no real problems except the lack of 3d. I have just finished trawling the forums again, coming back to: F12,F11 & F10 Nvidia driver guides [URL] I uninstalled all my nvidia packages, re-installed only "kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686" and dependencies, ensured 'nvidia' was my selected driver in xorg.conf (using nvidia-config-display disable, then enable), and rebooted, and still no joy. No errors in Xorg.0.log. My 'glx' extension is loaded. 'nouveau' is rdblacklisted. SELinux is disabled. I have 3Gb RAM and so have chosen not to use the PAE kernel or modules.

I just added a new NVidia graphics card (PCI) that's 512 RAM, DDR2, the GeForce 8400 GS. OpenSUSE boots fine and shows the desktop but it tells me I cannot enable desktop effects, which should be no problem with this computer and card.

I changed my old video card for a newer in order to use all the resolution of my screen 1920X1200 and not 1920X1080, in my just installed 11.2, rebooted and got to log in graphic mode,looks good. But isn't. It is working because the new card is seen as the old !How can I get the new one to be recognized, and acces the newresolution ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is to request the communities assistance with the following: As the title suggests, I am attempting to install 10.04.2 LTS on a PC equipped with an ASUS M2NPV-VM mobo and integral NVidia GeForce 6150 chipset/card and AMD dual processors.
Result: While the CD with the installation software loads, the splash screen comes up distorted and is displayed as several black and white horizontal bars. I have tried this with low end monitors with a VGA input with the same results. It appears to me as if though the video driver on the installation CD is not suitable for the mobo's chipset, but I may be wrong.
tried to install drivers for FX 5500 today, the one that Ubuntu recommended (173) and the current version (260). Both installs failed when it tried to set up python-support. Returned an exit status of "10". I don't know what that means. I could really use some help, because I just installed UT2K4, and without the driver, I can't play it. I'm running the latest release, as noted in the thread title. Dunno if it helps, but it was a clean install, because an alternate iso upgrade failed and mucked up 10.04.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS P5N7A-VM motherboard and was using Optical out for sound without issues running OpenSuse 11.2. I then got rid of my receiver and wanted to just use HDMI sound. I couldn't get it to work so I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.3. I simply went to the Sound control panel applet and changed it to Internal Audio Digital Stereo (HDMI). I can not get any sound from it on OpenSuse 11.3 either. I have ran sound tests from the command line "speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav" which all run without errors, but nothing comes out of the speakers. I have ran the suggestion of one post "alsa-info.sh" and here are my results:
