[URL] and it says that it is support under the geforce 200 ... The last time that I installed this driver my X session quit working ... I was able to ssh back into the laptop and undo the driver install so now i'm a little gun shy about trying it again...
View 11 Replies View RelatedBuilt a custom pc using a Gigabyte mobo and amd processor. Mobo has onboard video. Ubuntu Maverick installs fine using on board video but when I put in the Nvidia Geforce GT 240 I get either no video or scrambled video. I've tried disabling the on board video and still no luck. I've also tried to install nvidia drivers first, and will get it to work but video is not crisp and will not show all of the screen.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFedora Core 8 did not recognize my Geforce 7150M display adapter (in a HP DV6000 laptop), neither did Fedora Core 10 I tried yesterday although this laptop is now already over one year old (I have used Vista because it works out of the box but it sucks as you might have guessed). That could be something I'd like to complain about but I choose not to, I simply want to know how to install Fedora 10 from a live CD (that is all I have now, no DVDs and not too much cash to buy some..) Live CD boots and I can access command line. If I have understood correctly, Nvidia proprietary driver supports my display adapter but it is not included in live cd so I could use X after installation. Problem is that I don't know how to successfully run the installer from text mode. I tried to execute 'anaconda' but it cannot find packages to install when it comes to that. There seem to be no instructions how to install from a live CD that I could find using Google. For sure someone knows what command to execute to begin installation?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've enjoyed accelerated 3d graphics for years with this laptop, but since moving from CentOS 5.3 to FC12 I have had no 3d or opengl working at all.My install seems good. I'm running right now with the 'nvidia' driver in 1920x1200 res with no real problems except the lack of 3d. I have just finished trawling the forums again, coming back to: F12,F11 & F10 Nvidia driver guides [URL] I uninstalled all my nvidia packages, re-installed only "kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686" and dependencies, ensured 'nvidia' was my selected driver in xorg.conf (using nvidia-config-display disable, then enable), and rebooted, and still no joy. No errors in Xorg.0.log. My 'glx' extension is loaded. 'nouveau' is rdblacklisted. SELinux is disabled. I have 3Gb RAM and so have chosen not to use the PAE kernel or modules.

I typed "su -l" and telinit 3. But "ERROR: You appear to be running an X server" is written. What I can install this driver as well? or how I can booting up the Fedora 14 in text mode?
I have a 64 bit computer with a 64 bit distribution of Ubuntu. The driver for the onboard video card wasn't supported beyond 8.04, so I didn't upgrade. Yesterday, I bought a NVIDIA GeForce 210 video card. I installed it and Ubuntu detected it and worked, but the resolution was limited to 640x480 (I think). I figured this would be corrected by updating, so I updated to 9.04. When I had to restart, the option to select which OS (Linux or Win) came up, I selected 9.04, and the ubuntu symbol came on. The status bar went to the end and the screen turned black, flickered 5 times, turned black and stopped progressing. The xorg.conf file is:

I have thrown together a frankenstein of spare parts to stream video onto my TV. The GPU is a NX6800GS (geforce 6800). I have used the restricted driver tool to intsal the recommended driver. The VGA output works fine. My problem is that when using the nvidia tool to set up my TV through S-Video on the graphics card, the TV is not detected. This puts me at a dead end, as every how to guide on this forum assumes the nvidia control panel can detect the TV. Can i force video to play over the S-Video port? Do i need some magical unicorn drivers for the card? Any help is appreciated (even a simple "this setup will never work").
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am planning on upgrading the video card in my computer, an NVidia GeForce 9500 GT video card, to something that can handle at least 1600x1200 24-bit resolution without noticeable choppiness other "slow-downs" in graphic display. The card in question does have one gigabyte of RAM, but the type of memory it utilizes is DDR2 instead of something, i.e. DDR3 and above, with greater speed. Admittedly, the system in question is used for gaming as well as work. I want to stick with the NVidia brand because it has worked well for me, but I am not sure what would be the correct line of cards to use.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Lucid from Karmic and shortly before the release upgraded from a geforce 8400gs to my geforce GT240 and noticed no difference on Karmic. I read somewhere that the capability of video cards would be applied further with Lucid. Since installing Lucid I've noticed a severely reduced sharpness and severely increased contrast, changing the contrast in X server has no effect. My hardware driver is activated but not in use and no online fix I've attempted has been successful in resolving the issue. Is it possible to use a gt240 on lucid with no hassle and is there any way I can maximize my video cards capabilities?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro which i want to install Opensuse 11.2 64bit(Upgrades to 11.3) The problem is that once i install opensuse and then boot via rEFIt, it loads up till the desktop is supposed to appear. All i get at this stage is darkness with a few coloured shapes in the background (Video driver not loaded).I can however reboot and go in via the failsafe option. Once in here i can use the GUI. I am a total noob with linux, can some one give me the instructions on how to install this driver. Its driving me insane. In fact, already during the installation process it looks like there are some problems with the video card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M), since the lower part of the screen is just black (even if it still "exists", that is the mouse can go "behind" it and click the "next" or "cancel" buttons which are "covered" by the black stripe): [URL] ....
This problem persists also after the installation. Furthermore, since the screen has a 4k resolution (3640x2160) all icons, windows and texts are painfully small: [URL] ....

I tried changing the resolution from the Settings, but apart from 3640x2160 no other options are available. Furthermore, the display is labelled as "Unknown display": [URL] ....
I then tried to change it with xrandr, but the output of xrandr command is the following:

I then looked around the web, and found that this is a problem related to the video card driver. So, I followed the DebianWiki on the subject to install the driver, namely I installed the nvidia-driver package and then configured xorg with nvidia-xconfig. However, rebooting Debian, all I got is a blank screen with a flashing pointer, and xserver not working at all (if I press Alt+F3 and login and then try startx I get a long list of deadly-sounding errors like "screen not found").
What should I do? Should I try installing the drivers from the NVIDIA website? I've read (also in the DebianWiki) that this can cause problems to the system. Or is it really a driver problem? Why doesn't it detect the screen?
I recently purchased a cheap computer to use for everyday tasks. It came pre-loaded with Windows 7. The monitor I am using is a Vizio VX20L. It's native resolution is 1366X768. I have no problem with the screen resolution in Windows 7 but in Ubuntu, I am having some issues. I have the propriatary Nvidia driver installed in Ubuntu but for some reason I cannot get the screen resolution right. I am currently using a resolution of 1360x768 and the right part of my desktop is not on the screen.
I have tried to adjust the screen size using the monitor settings, but I still cannot get the whole screen to show up. If I set the resolution to Auto in the NVIDIA X Server Settings, it defaults to 1280X1024 and I can see my whole desktop, but it is streeeeetched. Here is some relevant information pertaining to my system:

After a disk crash I reinstalled openSuSE 11.2 and as always downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for my geforce 8200 graphics.

install the driver for my GeForce GT 220. I'm using the latest Debian and here's what happens: I get out of X and run ./NVIDIA... .run. It then says that I lack the cc tool for gcc. If I update gcc, it says that the gcc version used to compile the kernel mismatch my gcc version. If I ignore that error, it says that it can't find my kernel source.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have just installed openSUSE 11.1 64 bit on my system. Subsequently registered to get an auto-update repo and auto-updated until no more updates were offered. Then I first tried YaST to install NVidia drivers from the NVidia repo (added their repo), but sax2 wouldn't recognize them. So I downloaded their 190. (beta) drivers, installed the kernel source code and gcc 4.3. Then I switched to a console (Ctrl+Alt+F1), closed the x server, ran the driver install as described (gcc 4.3 is installed). Installer said that all is fine (I checked the log to be sure). So I ran sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia, but the driver still isn't recognized.

The KDE User Guide says that a driver supporting version 1.2 is necessary. However the nvidia driver for eForce FX Go5200 seems to support only version 1.1.Is there a way to use both monitors with SUSE 11.2? I am quite desperate since for my work using only 1 monitor is definitely a handicap.

This is to request the communities assistance with the following: As the title suggests, I am attempting to install 10.04.2 LTS on a PC equipped with an ASUS M2NPV-VM mobo and integral NVidia GeForce 6150 chipset/card and AMD dual processors.
Result: While the CD with the installation software loads, the splash screen comes up distorted and is displayed as several black and white horizontal bars. I have tried this with low end monitors with a VGA input with the same results. It appears to me as if though the video driver on the installation CD is not suitable for the mobo's chipset, but I may be wrong.
Forgive me if this was already posted but I couldn't find it. I am attempting to install F10 on my Acer Aspier 8730-6031, but I have video drive compatibility issues with my 9300m. Does anyone know of any drivers for this card or any fixes?

Unfortunately, I need to install the proprietary NVIDIA driver for my job (CUDA stuff). I first installed F13 + kmod-nvidia from Fusion on a machine with a GeForce 7200GS, and everything works ok (after turning nouveau off).
Then, I proceeded to update another machine featuring a GeForce GTX280 (again, nouveau blacklisted). The install was apparently successful, but X turned out to be extremely unstable and always crashes a few seconds into the session, either by leaving a blinking screen or by causing the machine to reboot. Thinking that some file might have ended up corrupted, I reinstalled F13 and tried nvidia-graphics from ATrpms. The result was the same: computer hanging a few seconds into the X session. Finally, I installed from the NVIDIA sh package, and again same outcome .
The card is most likely ok because I ran it with F10 till yesterday flawlessly, so I can only guess that it is the new version of the driver coming broken from NVIDIA. I tried installing version 185.18.36 but it cannot figure out the version of my kernel headers, and the legacy versions available from the repos do not support the GTX 280, so I cannot be positive about version 195.36.24 being bugged.
Both machines are x86_64 (a Phenom II and a Core i7). Especially, does anyone know how I could get version 185.18.36 to run on F13?
tried to install drivers for FX 5500 today, the one that Ubuntu recommended (173) and the current version (260). Both installs failed when it tried to set up python-support. Returned an exit status of "10". I don't know what that means. I could really use some help, because I just installed UT2K4, and without the driver, I can't play it. I'm running the latest release, as noted in the thread title. Dunno if it helps, but it was a clean install, because an alternate iso upgrade failed and mucked up 10.04.

The driver : NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.42-pkg2.run is downloaded from Nvidia website, but it can't drive the chipset successfully. So i can not start X-window. If anyone has a solution to this problem?

When Fedora 14 boots, I can hear the nvidia GPU fan spin up to its max rate.
With Windows on this same machine, the same fan starts at the same rate but drops to a lower (and less noisy rate) so we know there is graphics card supports fan control.
Does anyone know if its possible to set the nvidia's fan speed via the nouveau (or other) driver/util?
I have looked at nvclock (0.8b4 being the most recent I could find) but running this reports that the card isn't supported, although it reportedly supports the NV5x backend.
Is there anything special I need to do to use this card in conjunction with Fedora 14? It's been acting a little strange lately. Also I think the card may have some type of 3D support although I'm not entirely sure on that.
