Debian Hardware :: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M And 4k Display - Small Icons / Windows And Texts

Mar 5, 2016

I have recently bought a new notebook, an ASUS K501UX, and I have encountered some problems installing Debian 8.3 on it.

In fact, already during the installation process it looks like there are some problems with the video card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M), since the lower part of the screen is just black (even if it still "exists", that is the mouse can go "behind" it and click the "next" or "cancel" buttons which are "covered" by the black stripe): [URL] ....

This problem persists also after the installation. Furthermore, since the screen has a 4k resolution (3640x2160) all icons, windows and texts are painfully small: [URL] ....

As you can see, however, if I take a screenshot all the desktop is visualized. This is what the screen actually looks like in the lower part: [URL] ....

I tried changing the resolution from the Settings, but apart from 3640x2160 no other options are available. Furthermore, the display is labelled as "Unknown display": [URL] ....

I then tried to change it with xrandr, but the output of xrandr command is the following:

Code: Select allxrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 3840 x 2160, current 3840 x 2160, maximum 3840 x 2160
default connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   3840x2160      0.00*

I then looked around the web, and found that this is a problem related to the video card driver. So, I followed the DebianWiki on the subject to install the driver, namely I installed the nvidia-driver package and then configured xorg with nvidia-xconfig. However, rebooting Debian, all I got is a blank screen with a flashing pointer, and xserver not working at all (if I press Alt+F3 and login and then try startx I get a long list of deadly-sounding errors like "screen not found").

What should I do? Should I try installing the drivers from the NVIDIA website? I've read (also in the DebianWiki) that this can cause problems to the system. Or is it really a driver problem? Why doesn't it detect the screen?

My monitor is an Acer x193w which will do 1440x900 but there is no option for that. The monitor is just listed as a generic CRT, and only 4x3 display modes are given. Ubuntu Multimedia :: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE & VX20LHD Monitor - Screen Resolution In Windows 7

Sep 9, 2010

I recently purchased a cheap computer to use for everyday tasks. It came pre-loaded with Windows 7. The monitor I am using is a Vizio VX20L. It's native resolution is 1366X768. I have no problem with the screen resolution in Windows 7 but in Ubuntu, I am having some issues. I have the propriatary Nvidia driver installed in Ubuntu but for some reason I cannot get the screen resolution right. I am currently using a resolution of 1360x768 and the right part of my desktop is not on the screen.

I have tried to adjust the screen size using the monitor settings, but I still cannot get the whole screen to show up. If I set the resolution to Auto in the NVIDIA X Server Settings, it defaults to 1280X1024 and I can see my whole desktop, but it is streeeeetched. Here is some relevant information pertaining to my system:

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04
Integrated Video chip is NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE
The driver I'm using is NVIDIA accelerated graphic driver (version current)[Recommended]
screen is a Vizio VX20LHD

Debian :: Nvidia GeForce 7050 Not Working In Lenny?

Mar 7, 2010

I just did a fresh install of Debian lenny and I'm having an issue with the display driver. The system is defaulting to 1600x1200 and it's not allowing me to change it to a lower resolution. The PC has a Nvidia geForce 7050 display card and the monitor I bought with the machine goes up to 1366x768 resolution. I ran the dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg but nothing happens, it's only giving me options to change the keyboard. There is nothing on the xorg.conf for the monitor settings:

Seletion "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"

Apparently, the install did not picked up the display card automatically. I also looked up the drivers for the adapter and downloaded the nvidia-glx_173.14.09-5_i386.deb file but, don't know how to install it.

Debian Multimedia :: KDE Compositing Broken With Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS?

Sep 9, 2011

I just tried to install KDE in Debian testing on the machine with Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS using Nvidia driver (280.13-1). However KDE breaks when compositing is enabled, and the only way to make it work is to disable compositing. This problem seems to exist for a while already:[URL].. Is it really Nvidia's problem, or something with KDE? Is there a point in contacting Nvidia about it?

Debian Multimedia :: Nvidia Jessie 64bit KDE Small Menu Characters

Jan 2, 2016

I was updating my system (sudo apt-get upgrade) and had several nvidia drivers proposed as "Suggested"... I changed the options for apt-get to include the suggestions, did the upgrade, and suddenly the normal size fonts in menus, along the "task bar", inside Chrome tabs and headers, and other places became too small for my old eyes to read.

I have tried Google and found issues within Gnome (mostly fonts too large).

I have tried removing the nvidia-driver so I could go back to nouveau (which worked fine) but the next time I updated my software table (sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get upgrade) the nvidia drivers seemed to return, even though I had purged the nvidia that I had removed... what remains on the system is:

Code: Select allglx-alternative-nvidia                          install
libegl1-nvidia:amd64                            install
libgl1-nvidia-glx:amd64                         install
libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386                          install
libgl1-nvidia-glx-i386                          install
libgles1-nvidia:amd64                           install

[CODE]....

The motherboard is a Gigabyte AMD 9 Series FX Motherboards GA-970A-D3P; CPU is AMD FX-8350; video card is a GEForce 8400 gs; system has 32GB of 1866 RAM; a SSD for software and 750 GB spinning HD, both SATA III/6G.

I just want to be able to easily read the headings, and content in dolphin

OpenSUSE Hardware :: NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M And NVIDIA Optimus Support?

Apr 3, 2011

I own an ASUS N61JV-X2 notebook PC that has an Intel HD IGP, nVIDIA GeForce GT 325M GPU, and nVIDIA Optimus technology. I am running OpenSUSE 11.4 64 bit with GNOME. I used to be a former Ubuntu user. I used Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat 64 bit. In Ubuntu, it was not recommended that I install the proprietary nVIDIA binary drivers because it would cause me to log into a TTY console upon reboot.

nVIDIA states that they have no plans to support Optimus technology in Linux at any time. Would it be recommended that I install the proprietary nVIDIA binary drivers in OpenSUSE 11.4 64 bit with GNOME? Will I get the same problem as in Ubuntu? How do I do this?

Fedora :: KDE 4.4 Post Upgrade - Small Or Broken Icons

Mar 16, 2010

I would like to ask whether somebody has had the similar experience after KDE 4.4 upgrade.
1. From the attached picture you can see that an icon for xine has a different size. When I change it manually and align the icon, it has previous status after the restart. If I delete that icon and recreate it again, it's smaller than other icons. Icon size for desktop is set up to 32, Desktop Activity.
2. Minimizing/maximizing e.g. Firefox breaks all icons in task bar. I am able to refresh only Firefox/Thunderbird icons.

What can cause these issues? Maybe:
1. my nouveau driver
2. bugs in KDE 4.4.
3. my theme

How to work around on this issue? Any generic driver that would work for this display adaptor? whether version 5.5 would work with this card?

Hardware :: NVIDIA Geforce 7050 Compatible ?

Apr 30, 2010

I purchased a new computer and I am trying to boot up gparted to partition the HD for installing my Linux Distros, but it gives the famous error Quote:

input signal out of range. So I tried booting up some other live cd's, some give the same error as above and some tell me that the resolution or refresh rate in wrong. Of course using a live cd I have no control over that. I also tried three different monitors that have run Linux just fine on other computers.

My only thought that I could come up with is the NVIDIA Geforce 7050 graphics is not compatible with Linux. Can anyone confirm this ? Or is there something else I can try ?

Hardware :: NVidia GeForce G 310M Support ?

Feb 13, 2011

I am thinking of buying a Lenovo IdeaPad Z360, it has a GeForce G 310M.

I can't find much info on Linux support but an Ubuntu thread seems to suggest it isn't good. Can someone confirm that this card works with the latest nVidia drivers on Linux (Arch in particular)? It'd be even better if you had the Ideapad Z360 and could report on any other hardware problems I might have?

NVidia seems to say they have support (listed without the G however), but I've heard conflicting reports and so would like to check.

EDIT: I also found these:

[url]

Does the Z360 have optimus and the Z560 not so? I can't detect that either of them have it but occasionaly, someone says that they do. Can anyone confirm this? I thought the only real difference was the screen size.
