View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent update, when ever I attempt to open a ".ogv" extension from within Dolphin File Mananger in KDE4.4.2, I get a window that pops up every time for Checking For additional Software to install. It does this in spite of the fact I already have several players and the default set to SMPlayer to play the files. How do I turn this behavior off? It's really annoying because you either have to wait for it to finish checking (and finding nothing BTW) or Cancel it in order to play the file. This just started recently. I don't see anything obvious in Dolphin configuration, but I'm not even sure it's related to Dolphin at all.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThere are numerous fs checks with transaction log replay at every boot of my opensuse 11.4 notebook.I do not see any error messages on the console during shutdown or startup (but maybe I am just reading too slow)./var/log/messages contains some error messages from NetworkManager during shutdown, but I think they are unrelated.Filesystems I use are ext4 for /boot, ntfs for windows partitions, reiserfs for the root filesystem and for several logical volumes.
As far as I could see the checks are only done on the reiserfs filesystems on the logical volumes but I cannot see any warnings during volume group activation, so it seems the logical volumes are deactivated at shutdown.Of course I do wait until the notebook powers off by itself on shutdown.I'll provide /var/log/messages of a shutdown/boot shortly

Because I was getting some package errors, I ran the Repair Installed System option that shows up after boot. During System Check when earching for package databases,YaST2 is not able to find /var/lib/rpm/Filemd5s. After a while, a YaST2 box pops up and says that it Successfully rebuilt the package databaseïbut I get the same error when I run System Check again. I've chosen both Rebuild Package Database as well as Revert to Original Package Database (saved by YaST)In both cases, it saysat it was successful, but the same error occurs the next time I run System Check

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsed to run Gentoo, years ago, getting back on the linux train. Anyways, got a new media pc and am having some troubles getting it to function. I am using ImageWriter, an OCZ Rally 4gb flash drive and have tried both HTTP and BitTorrent downloaded copies of 11.3 with the same md5sum check wrong error. What am I doing wrong? Is it because it thinks it is a CD or am I getting bad copies of the ISO? I am so out of practice I can't remember anything about installation anymore and am at a loss.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to Debian but not Linux-based systems. I have been experimenting a lot with Debian Lenny/Squeeze. I am growing more comfortable each day with the Debian design. Yet there remain many unexplored areas. I am creating a migration check list. Things to check, prepare, or reconfigure when moving from one Linux-based system to Debian.
I have a good computer background and my current check list probably is fairly good. Yet I would appreciate input and opinions from experienced Debian users of things to watch in such a migration. Login defs, passwd/group files, different directory locations, keymaps, services and daemons, etc. I am not too concerned with the desktop as I plan to stick with KDE 3.5 for a while and I can basically move those settings across.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a custom file, that is created by a X (not known) program. I would like to "try" to read one of the files it creates. Of course one way is to try to open it from c or java and try to see what is inside the file. For that I have to do a few retries with different data types.
Thus I was thinking if there is any program, that can facilitate this checking by reading the file with all the different ways fast.
I was able to burn a DVD-RW with K3B (after changing "sudo chmod 4755 /usr/bin/wodim") but when I try to burn to a CD-R it fails after the opc check. I tried changing the write-speed to 8X (since that's the max for this CD-R) but it still fails.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.04 32 bit. I am familiar with the option on the alternate CDs to check CD integrity. Is there such a thing for the normal desktop live/install CD? I know the download image is OK. I have created several virtual machines from it. I believe the CD is OK - I have installed 2 physical machines from it.
I am now installing on my old Dell Poweredge 400 SC. When I first boot from the CD I get the message "The installer encountered an unrecoverable error..." then it brings up the Live CD OS. From there I can manually run install. The first time it got about half way through copying files to the hard drive and died. It indicated an I/O error. Could be dirt in the DVD drive - it is older than dirt. Or it could be the CD. Dirt I can clean with some compressed air. How do I verify the CD? I am downloading the alternate CD now as I try a second run at installing.
I have a LOT of bookmarks collected in time in my Firefox Browser, but i have found that some of them are dead.
I was "googling" around and found that:
Code:
wget --spider --force-html -i bookmarks.html
Can check all the bookmarks if are online/offline, but where it saves the results?
So the question is: Someone knows an app to check my bookmarks online/offline state?

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis query is about Machine # 1 - Asus P5Q Deluxe, C2Duo 3.0GHZ, 4.0 GB ram, nVidia 8500, openSUSE 11.2 64-bit, KDE 4.3.5I am having a little concern about the way Dolphin file manager behaves in the 64 bit openSUSE and am wondering if there is a solution for it.Every file I download from the net goes into a 'Check' folder, and I check it over before moving it to it's proper place. In the 32bit version nSuse 11.2, I can watch files being downloaded to that 'Check' folder. I call this realtime file postingIn the 64 bit openSUSE 11.2, I have to close the 'Check' folder and reopen it to see the downloaded file, so, everytime I download something, I have to close and reopen the 'Check' folder. It does not post the file to the folder until the folder has been closed and reopened.I have checked the settings of both machines for Dolphin file manager and see nothing [apparently] different, yet this still persists.
