Ubuntu :: Multiple Partitions Shown In Nautilus?
Jan 4, 2010For two of my partitions on sda (they are NTFS parts) I have configured them via the NTFS Configuration Tool to mount at boot. This is OK - I can see them in Places, Computer; they are listed together with the mounted icon to the right. However, there is also two other partitions listed - that are not shown as mounted - with the same label name. (I can also see these duplicate parts listed if I click on Places ad look down at the various devices attached under Computer). If I right click on these unmounted parts I see there is a greyed out option to Remove. How do I remove these duplicate partitions?

Everytime I boot debian my partitions are not shown in Nautilus and gnome-panel:While nautilus is this way, if I plug USB drives it doesn't run automount.If I execute the command "nautilus -q" and restart the gnome panel, the partitions are shown and the usb automount start to work,if I add "nautilus -q" toartup automatically my desktop gets deactivated.Image after "nautilus -q" and "killall gnome-panel"Does anyone know how to fix it, and make the partitions and the usb automount work correctly

Feb 14, 2010I have a logical partition formatted with NTFS and created (from Windows) after Ubuntu 9.10 was installed. It's name is "Volume". Now, it doesn't show under places nor nautilus. I think it is shown when using the Live CD again. It is shown in Volume Manager. How can I have it show up next to my other partitions?

Jun 5, 2010Actually, Nautilus allows two instances of the same folder, or two folders with the same name in the same directory, as long as one is hidden (with the .prefix) and the other is shown. It happens that, if during a download (through a download manager or a torrent client) the user adds the . prefix to the download folder, another will be automatically created by the application (let's say Transmission for example) and the download would continue to that new folder. If any renaming happens (or if the original folder is restored), the download will resume to the folder with whichever initial name. Eventually, the user will be left with an unusable/corrupt complete download.

lvm was created in 2nd partition type primary.
yesterday i had deleted all partitions in the first drive of windows only from ubuntu disk utility. today i went to install windows and the partition space was shown as [139gb] , i thought this is the first hard disk. But my guess is windows must have taken the free space on my home partition inside lvm[ 150gb which roughly translates to 139 GiB.
SO first i deleted the whole partition of 139gb which was shown different in unallocated space as a slight less figure and then i created a 30gb partition on that space shown and went ahead, windows post creation again showed 139gb and then gave a message on next window that partition does not contain data to install windows xp. Strange i thought, this becoz next screen before the format partition as ntfs is all to be shown. Then i just felt something fishy and rebooted and then ubuntu of 2nd hdd is not booting.
I ran test disk from gparted live cd and i find td recovered the boot drive but not the 2nd primary partition in which lvm [root,home,swap] is created. It shows the lvm as 279gb. But not the 3 logical partitions inside it.
Now when i boot post the grub menu i get the following message
This disk contains all my data and the first drive was also wiped out full. test disk is not able to get anything on that windows drive.........

May 2, 2011I have an old computer where i tried to install openSUSE 11.4 today. While installing it showed some error regarding like ntfs drive mounting... i skipped those messages. But now no ntfs drives are are available in openSUSE. Is there any way to get those drives back?

Feb 9, 2009i'm tying to dual boot Vista64 (already installed) and Fedora 10 x86_64. I am running a Dell XPS 410 running 2 sata hard drives raid 0 (ICH8DH). I started the process by shrinking my C drive on disk0 leaving 64.45GB of unallocated space. Next I rebooted into Fedora install DVD and when i get to blue graphical install screen i get message asking if my drive is GPT and if it is it may be corrupted. I click NO, and it comes up with a message telling me i have to initialize my drive if i want to use it ( have to click NO twice) and if i do it i will lose all my data.
i can click no and keep proceding through the install until i get to the partition setup screen. No hard drives or partitions are shown. I've tried googling the problem and get bits of pieces of information scattered in different parts but nothing conclusive to my problem i think. As far as my background of knowledge goes, I'm new to the linux community but give me a thorough guide and i'll do fine (i hope). I've been using fedora on a separate laptop for 2 days now .

This used to work fine. Since this morning, openSUSE crashes when X is attempting to start. I can still boot into openSUSE by removing that flag, but even then I still don't see the chameleon.

Jul 15, 2011I have been setting up my laptop as a dual boot with Win7 (yuckkk!) and Ubunutu 11.04. My HP Pavilion dm4 came with 4 primary partitions used by Windows! (Again, yuckkk!) I got rid of Windows_recover partition (I don't remember the exact name) converted that primary partition to an extended partition and then installed Ubuntu in virtual partitions. All that works.What I don't like is that the partition HP_TOOLS shows up in Nautilus, and if you click on it, it self-mounts and makes that partition accessible.

May 29, 2010I have 2 drives formatted NTFS, which I'm mounting with /etc/fstab to ~/Movies/ and ~/Music/ and an EXT4 partition on my primary drive for games, mounted to ~/Roms/ and I would like for these drives to NOT show up in the side panel of nautilus.
I've been doing some looking around, and what I've found so far is that supposedly if you mount a partition/drive somewhere besides /media/ nautilus will ignore it. I'm finding this not to be the case, and it's driving me bonkers. here's my fstab:

Dec 9, 2009I had a Windows 7 RC/openSUSE 11.1 dual-boot on this computer running on RAID 1. When I installed Windows 7 final, somehow it screwed up my RAID 1. I fought with it for a while, but decided to wipe the logical drive, and then go into BIOS and disable RAID. I reinstalled Windows 7 on the HDD, but I have no RAID now. BIOS shows 4 SATA drives. Windows sees all of them just fine. But the openSUSE 11.2 install DVD can't see any partitions on sda, sdb, sdc or sdd. It however says I still have two RAID logical drives, which I don't. I'd really like to install openSUSE 11.2, but I want it to recognize my Windows partitions, if for no other reason that to see my MP3 collection, my eBooks, etc.

Apr 10, 2010I have a pretty weird problem, which is that I can't format any partitions anymore.
It started when my laptop suddenly froze and I killed it (I just ran FF, IRC client, Kopete, ... and I think the last thing I did was plugging in a USB drive). When I wanted to boot the machine again it gave me a lot of errors that the root and the home partitions are both corrupted.
Repairing the system with the DVD didn't help at all and finally I removed all the partitions to reinstall the whole system.
During the installation it can create the partitions, but it can't format them with ext4.
I tried to format the partitions with a live CD and YaST Partioner and the same problem showed up code...

May 24, 2010Texts about partitioning with LVM are quite technical.However I should like to find a text explaining me how to manually make LVM-partitions in OpenSuSE. Like which ones, how big, how to do it. I made an auto LVM with /home. Problem is my entire disk is not used (/root was 5GB max /home was only 7GB max on sda2)and I was not able to make the partitions the seize I wanted.
I have now sda1 configured as /home 280GB and sda2 with the proposed partitioning of Yast. So only 5,9 GB for root. It looks like my try-out is working fine, however. Using normal partitioning is not a good option on my PC. He shows lots of black screens. With LVM no problem at all.

Oct 7, 2010Since i first installed my openSuse 11.2 on the laptop, I didn't know how much space I'd need for this OS to run. Now I've encuntered the worst - The root prartition is 6GB big and it might run out of space shortly (700MB left).I had Win XP on it but as soon as I learned openSuse to make basic tasks - i removed the ntfs partition.The HDD is 28GB, I have 6GB root, 7,5GB home, 750MB swap (512MB RAM) ans 14,65GB free space off the deleted NTFS.Is there any way to join the partitions, so the root can be 16GB in space and home around 12GB?
Or maybe just make another second /home partition and use a program to allocate the "missing bytes" from root to another partition if it runs out of space?
OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 /dev/sda Missing In Partitions?
Aug 22, 2011I have an acer travelmate 632 running 11.3.The grandkids have been playing playing frozen bubble in fullscreen mode but the "full screen" was actually only the central part of the monitor.Yesterday, there were a bunch of updates. Today, the kids again played frozen bubble but this time, the "full screen" was really the full screen, not the sub-window. After exiting the game, a window popped up telling me that a monitor had been disconnected and would I like to reconfigure. I said yes.
After reboot, the graphical login failed saying that a serious error had been encountered and that I should consult the KDM logs. I went to console mode but was unable to log in. Neither as root or as the regular user. Both fail with "Login incorrect". In fact, the only way in now is via single-user mode.
Looking through the /var/log/messages, I see a curious set of mesages complaining the, for instance, "/dev/sda4 is not in PARTITIONS" note the upper-case. I then see that, despite what "mount" tells me, ?home (sda4) and /boot (sda1) are not mounted. That is, I cannot list their contents. If I manually mount those partitions, I can list their contents.
