OpenSUSE Install :: Option To Continue Boot When Something In Fstab Failed?

Jul 13, 2009

I have already started a thred here about RAID failure: RAID5 failed, system drops into limited single mode - openSUSE Forums

I was not able to boot the system until I commented /dev/md0 in fstab

Why is it so?
This is just a files sharing partition, it is not a system partition.

Is there any option to always ignore any errors and continue boot?

OpenSUSE Install :: Boot Procedure Stops And Doesn't Continue By Itself?

Jul 18, 2010

I have an issue with normal boot (fail safe boot doesn't have this problem). The boot process just stops and nothing happens, I just see the green background, the white lizard and no moving progress bar. I've given it about 40min without touching it, but nothing happened. If I press escape, the last log print says its mounting/mounted the hard drive. Not until I touch the head pad or press a key, it wakes up and the boot procedure continues. I once had a similar problem on opensuse 11.1 which could require much tickling before booting up completely. This was never seen on 10.3, 11.0 and 11.2, but now its back in 11.3.

OpenSUSE Install :: Boot Very Slow After Adding HD To Fstab

Dec 15, 2009

I have an external hard drive that I use with my laptop and I want it to be mounted at boot. I used YaST to do this by using the Partitioner. I selected the volume, then edited then chose to have the partition mounted at boot.

On next book the computer booted up and mounted the device as I expected but the boot up process took a long time. When I would usually get the desktop I got only a black screen for about one minute, the the desktop finally loads. I tried to reboot a number of times but I still get the same delay.

When I go back and choose to have the hard drive not auto mount and then reboot there is no delay in loading the desktop. So it seems like mounting this device is delaying the loading of my desktop on boot somehow.

Below is the line that is added to my fstab file to auto mount the drive:

OpenSUSE Install :: Update Failed. "No Fstab Found"?

Aug 31, 2010

I was trying to update (from 11.0) to 11.3. Booting from DVD, selecting root (after "show all partitions", because none was offered at all), there is a message "No fstab found." and then "Failed to mount target system".fstab on target root is definitely readable and OK. (this is a dd copy from my current system, which is fine.). The target root fs is ext4 (seems ok, see y2log):

OpenSUSE Install :: Boot - Utorrent Starts Before Fstab And The Network Drive Is Unmount

Jul 9, 2011

I succeed in uTorrent server's install as a daemon in Opensuse 11.4 and it works great. I've already change my fstab file to add a network drive to be mount on startup localize in /mnt/freebox/. This is also working great. The issue is during the startup, utorrent starts before fstab and thus the network drive is unmount.
In my utorrent init.d daemon script, I ask for $Network starts in first time: Code: Required-Start: $network Is there any possibilities to order the startup and ask to fstab to start before uTorrent Daemon?

OpenSUSE Install :: No USB Boot Option In BIOS?

Aug 29, 2010

Under Windows XP in the C Drive, I've downloaded PLoP boot manager to force the USB boot. I've tried about a thousand things and I get a different error message at different times from each attempt. I've got all of those documented, and I imagine I'll need to post them. I'm just not doing it quite yet as sometimes I give too much information and I really feel that I'm being an idiot here, missing something simple.

I'd like to install openSUSE onto the D Drive, using the USB and PLoP to boot it. I've downloaded openSUSE's torrents for all iso's (Net, DVD and LiveKDE). In order to get those files onto the USB, I first format to FAT32. I've tried UNetBootIn, LiLi, and mounting the iso on Daemon Tools and then copy-paste into the hard drive. None of these work and they all give different errors. Is this even possible, am I wasting my time? This is getting incredibly frustrating as I've been at it for nearly a week.

Ubuntu Installation :: Way Can Continue Or Repair Partly Failed Ubuntu Install?

Jan 21, 2010

I have a sony vaio vgn-AR71s with dual boot Vista and Ubuntu, no problems there.Since, over time, I messed up my previous Ubuntu setup while trying to get my wifi working, I decided to reinstall the whole thing and give it a fresh start. (as after two Kernel updates my wifi card drivers should be supported)I Reinstalled Vista and drivers after which I downloaded the latest Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD, burned to a disc and rebooted. When the Ubuntu installation was almost finished I got an error, the disc I was using got overheated (bad quality CD) and there was a problem copying certain files. However my hard disk was successfully partitioned and divided in half (1st partition Vista -NTFS and second Ubuntu -Ext4). But my laptop still boots directly into Vista ignoring the partly failed Ubuntu install, no boot option at startup. When I reboot using the LiveCD I can only install Ubuntu on a newly created third partition.

Is there any way I can continue or repair the previous ubuntu install? I searched this forum and the internet for options and hints yet don't seem to find an answer. The good thing is my wifi card is finally working (when I booted from the LiveCD it immediately detected wireless networks yeay)

OpenSUSE Install :: Grub Not Using Saved Boot Option?

Jun 21, 2010

After giving it my best shot, I had to give up and finally decide that I need "acpi=off" added to the kernel line in grub. I have done so, saved it:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-0.2-default root=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST950212A_5LE02797-part1
pci=noacpi

I have tried "acpi=off" "pci=noacpi". But on boot the system totally ignores this and loads the acpi support from the kernal, which shut down the USB ports. Where is this option used in Suse so that the kernel will recognize on each boot?

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Boot After Online Update Option?

Dec 17, 2010

Everything was OK until Ive made update (yast/software/online update <-- BTW kupdate applet isn't working, just update bar appear and stuck on 0%). i haven't installed any additional packages, only the defaults (KDE desktop). after update only fail safe option is working (booting normally and looks like normal desktop, no visual differences between normal and fail safe booting, if there should been any). OpenSUSE Install :: Failed Dual Boot Win 7 And 11.3

Dec 27, 2010

I've been googling and couldn't find solution to my problem. In the past I was able to get around dual boot with Win XP but that Win 7 seems to be more resistant to dual boot. I have a Toshiba Portege T110 that came with Win 7 home edition. I parted the hdd using gparted and put Linux on extended partition. It was OK up till then. After installing Opensuse 11.3 and installing Grub in extended partition, grub came up but when I chose windows, I got error from windows boot manager saying it couldn't find winload.exe. I tried to manipulate the grub by typing:

rootnoverify (hd0,1)
makeactive
chainloader +1
boot

That didn't work at all. So I reinstalled Win 7. After Win 7 back up, I again tried to fix grub by doing this:

find /boot/grub/menu.lst (this gives hd0,5)
root (hd0,5)
setup(hd0)
quit

After rebooting, grub came back but when I tried to access win 7, I again got the black screen saying my winload.exe is missing. I'm reinstalling my win 7 for the 2nd time now. But I'd still like to get the dual boot with Opensuse 11.3 to work. What have I done wrong? Should I put grub in MBR or the mount point / ? or should it be left alone in extended partition? And how do I move grub to different place?

Ubuntu Security :: Add Acl Option To Fstab?

Feb 23, 2010

I've got a partition, let's say sdb6, which is one of the partitions of my second hard disk.On boot ubuntu only mount my boot partition, let's say sda2, which is on my first drive.Once ubuntu started if I want to mount a partition I usually click on it under the Places menu and an authorization is required. As I would like to add acl to a partition following this thread

Quote:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8787962

I've tried to add acl option to my fstab, but my /etc/fstab doesn't have any info of any of my partitions and it originaly looks like:

Quote:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier

# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name[code]...

My goal is to mount/unmount any partition with acl loaded and graphically ,but I reached my limit on my linux knoweledge.

Ubuntu Installation :: XFS - Which UTF8 Mount Option In Fstab

May 9, 2010

I have since quite a long time the problem that files using special characters in their filenames are not displayed in various applications. In console or Thunar I have a special "white questionmark in a rhombus" sign for every special character. It is an XFS partition. I have read a few times that this can be solved by using the iocharset=utf8 option in /etc/fstab, but this option is not recognized and the mount inhibited.

I used other options: utf8 as well as nls=utf8, but that was not recognized neither. What option do I need to specify to enable utf8 for XFS ? Samba works. That means I can play an MP3 file in Windows exported from the XFS disk using Samba, although the special character is then shown as "_" in Windows..
