OpenSUSE Install :: Install 11.2 On Packard Bell IXtreme I9610IT
Jan 16, 2010
I have installed openSuSE 11.2 on my PC (Packard Bell iXtreme I9610IT) and the installation has been successfully completed.
Packard Bell iXtreme I9610IT
CPU: Intel Core i7-860 (Cache: 8MB | FSB: 1333MHz)
Motherboard Chipset: Intel P55
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 dual channel
HD: 1TB SATA (7200 rpm)
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT220 (1024MB)
Sound Card: RealteK ALC 888S HD 7.1 (integrated)
iXtreme I9610IT | Packard Bell
The graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GT220) was not detected at startup, but the open source driver function quite good. The display (TFT-LCD Monitor HP 2009v 20") has a good resolution altough the screen resolution is smaller than expected, and a frequency of 70Hz (that would be correct to 60Hz). There's no problem, I have found a tool for install NVIDIA drivers in 1-click: NVIDIA - openSUSE (with the official owner NVIDIA driver the display resolution is 1600x900 and the frequency is 50Hz).
The only problem I have found is that sometimes (specially if I open many applications) when I press the shut down or reboot button, the OS logout me instead shut down or reboot itself. When I login again, I can shut down or reboot without any kind of problems (is it a problem of stack?). But the most worrying aspect is that, altough I installed the official owner NVIDIA driver, sometimes when I login again the video shows me only wavy lines.

I'm the proud owner of a Packard Bell Easynote MZ-35 laptop computer. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on it and I'm very happy
My only problem is that the headphone minijack-out wont work. When I plug in a minijack, the pc-speakers just keeps on rocking.

I'm having trouble with the keyboard on the Packard Bell EasyNote R4. I'm using the standard xorg driver that gets configured by the Debian Lenny installer and the problem is that the keys sometimes generate weird keycodes or something, causing unwanted behaviour of the window manager (XFCE 4.4) such as creating a new terminal window or shading windows. Could the keyboard be faulty or does someone know of a driver that would work better with this model?

My brother installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a Packard Bell Easynote NJ65. He has a wired home connection, which seems not to be working now. It was working with the same machine under Vista. What are the first places I should look? Any hints or clues or people with similar issues would be most welcome.

There is an issue with built-in microphone on the KAV60 laptop - it produces no signal to apps. If I plug in external mike - it works fine.
lspci shows:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
Adding various options "model=..." for snd-hda-intel ALC272 does not help (ALC272 is returned by "aplay -l"). What else could I try?

what is the best/easiest way to install a all-in-one device from Hewlett Packard (hp)?Is there a way/makes it sence to set it up via Yast? I do not know why this wiki. How to set-up a HP printer - openSUSE.shout be "obsolete" (at least not for all-in-one printers). And for "only" printers: Is there an other way including bidirectional communication (ink etc.?).

I'm using a Packard Bell Easynote Tn36 laptop, and I'm having trouble with Ubuntu 10.10 and the wireless network card, (probably because of lack of driver). I.e. it is disabled.
How can I enable it?
I input this code:

I've searched all over Google and searched the forums and I have not been successful in finding out how to disable the System Bell (Beep) computer-wide. It's annoying hearing this extremely loud "BEEP" when I hit backspace one too many times, even when my sound is muted. People look at me like I'm crazy. Even if I try to backspace a non-existent character in my Google Chrome browser, I am struck with a crazy Error Beep. Long story short, how do I disable the System-wide "System Bell" ("BEEP") permanently? I'm on OpenSuse 11.3 using the KDE 4.4.4 Desktop.

If I install the factory release now, can I easily convert my system to a normal 11.3 point release later, after 11.3 is out? If so, how would I do it? (11.2 has an issue that affects me. It's fixed in 11.3 already, so I have to use 11.3 if I'm going to use openSUSE.)

i have a backtrack install that i would like to keep while installing suse for an everyday OS; i start the install process but when it gets to partitioning the hard drive, it doesnt seem to recognize anything already being on there; it just gives me the setup for suse, ie:
sda1 ext3 = OS sda2 or sda5 = swap. do i have to configure a partition scheme? i installed ubuntu on a desktop alongside windows very easily due to grub graphical install/partition; is there not a similar function for suse?

After a fresh install of opensuse 11.3 x86_64, using a NET install CD, I noticed that the boot disk layout has overlapping partitions. I've noticed one other post that mentioned this at the very end. Is this a known problem already? Or is there something I'm missing that makes this okay?

I'm running openSUSE 11.3 and screwed some things up so that I can't install anything, including UNetbootin. So I decided to completely reinstall. I'm limited to using my hard drive as there's no CD/DVD or floppy drives installed on the machine and BIOS does not support booting from USB.
I found these instructions - Install any Linux distro directly from hard disk without burning any DVD - Just Another Linux Lover Blog
From the terminal enter these commands
sudo mkdir /distro
sudo chmod `whoami`:`whoami`
cp MYLINUX.iso /distro/distro.iso
Now extract Linux_kernel & Ram_disk to /distro#
Open /boot/grub/menu.lst
#ADD NEW ENTRY#
title Install Linux
root (hdX,X)
kernel /distro/Linux_kernel
initrd /distro/Ram_disk
Reboot and select "Install Linux" from grub. Blog Widget by LinkWithin
Creating the folder "distro" on root was easy and went smoothly. I can't seem to make the second 'whoami' command work, though. I copied-and-pasted "sudo chmod `whoami`:`whoami`" into the terminal. It asks me for the root password, I enter that and then get
chmod: missing operand after `holly:holly'
Try `chmod --help' for more information.
I didn't see anyone reply in the comments of that page saying they had trouble with it, so I think I'm just being an idiot. One person did suggest adding distro at the end on another page and it gets me
chmod: invalid mode: `holly:holly'
Try `chmod --help' for more information.

i know if u search a solution in forums u get so much confused information. i hope this little manual will help all with the nvidia driver problem! u dont need to edit or create a xorg.conf or something to run the driver correct and u need no blacklistedit too! if u did the standard opensuse 11.3 install its only about 2 kernel packages and the disabling of the x11noveau driver.
1. after standard installing opensuse 11.3 update and install the opensuse softwareupdates
2. install with the yast software re/installer:
(from Desktop or from the terminal. the terminal text command is: yast2)
[Code]...
u dont need to change the menu.lst after all, only u get many problems. run the midnight commander and delete the nomodeset word and the noveau driver would be normally still active after reboot.

As soon as I was done installing and I was on a fresh desktop, I installed the Yast updates that were available, rebooted, and now I can't login to any of my User accounts. Whenever I try to login, it tells me that it is "Unable to Open Session".o any of you know how I can fix this without having to reinstall all over again

Since I've installed opensuse 11.4 instead of 11.3, I cannot install .rpm packages nor execute updates. I get the following message: "There has been a (probably temporarily) when connecting to the software source/repository" (own translation) details: Media source [URL] does not contain the desired medium So, probably there is something wrong with my software sources. Could anyone give a suggestion to repair this since I'm not a linux expert and would like to install new software on my newly updated machine.

how to update my system online (for example my firefox 3.0 to 3.5) but i can't figure out how this possibly works. I tried the "online update" using Yast2 but apparently (according to Yast) there is nothing at all to be patched on my system. I tried to click on the Firefox-3.5.5 rpm in the repository web-interface and open it using "install software" but the process aborts because of unresolved dependencies. Is there an easy way to update software without having to download/install every dependency manually?

When trying to install 11.2 from DVD, the user information I entered at the beginning of the install gets lost. I get to the Automatic Configuration step at the end of the install where the computer needs to reboot, and it asks for my user ID and password (it shouldn't do that). It won't accept the user I created (always says login failed), but it will accept root. That really doesn't matter, because the Automatic Configuration step has done anything, and I have a busted install. I've tried the install 4 or 5 times, but it is always the same problem. I eventually reinstalled 11.1 without any problem (though I did have to click Use Entire Disk on the partition section so it would delete the ext4 partitions created by the 11.2 install and create ext3 partitions).
