My brother installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a Packard Bell Easynote NJ65. He has a wired home connection, which seems not to be working now. It was working with the same machine under Vista. What are the first places I should look? Any hints or clues or people with similar issues would be most welcome.

I have Packard Bell easynote tn36 and I used to use ubuntu 10.10 and then when I upgrad it to ubuntu 11.04 the wireless doesn't work (disable) and I can't press the botton of Enable wireless.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with the keyboard on the Packard Bell EasyNote R4. I'm using the standard xorg driver that gets configured by the Debian Lenny installer and the problem is that the keys sometimes generate weird keycodes or something, causing unwanted behaviour of the window manager (XFCE 4.4) such as creating a new terminal window or shading windows. Could the keyboard be faulty or does someone know of a driver that would work better with this model?

My only problem is that the headphone minijack-out wont work. When I plug in a minijack, the pc-speakers just keeps on rocking.
There is an issue with built-in microphone on the KAV60 laptop - it produces no signal to apps. If I plug in external mike - it works fine.
lspci shows:

I have installed openSuSE 11.2 on my PC (Packard Bell iXtreme I9610IT) and the installation has been successfully completed.

The graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GT220) was not detected at startup, but the open source driver function quite good. The display (TFT-LCD Monitor HP 2009v 20") has a good resolution altough the screen resolution is smaller than expected, and a frequency of 70Hz (that would be correct to 60Hz). There's no problem, I have found a tool for install NVIDIA drivers in 1-click: NVIDIA - openSUSE (with the official owner NVIDIA driver the display resolution is 1600x900 and the frequency is 50Hz).
The only problem I have found is that sometimes (specially if I open many applications) when I press the shut down or reboot button, the OS logout me instead shut down or reboot itself. When I login again, I can shut down or reboot without any kind of problems (is it a problem of stack?). But the most worrying aspect is that, altough I installed the official owner NVIDIA driver, sometimes when I login again the video shows me only wavy lines.
I have a wired problem in Ubuntu 10.10, My Ubuntu can connect with Wireless network, however it cannot connect to Wired Connection. I installed dual System, one is Ubuntu 10.10, the other one is Win7. Under Win7, I can both connect to the Internet in Wired or Wireless mode.
The more wired phenomenon is: When I plug in the cable, I can see the icon connected in my network manager. But I cannot visit any URLs. By checking the "ifconfig -a", I can see the IP addr was assigned to my eth0.

Running a wired connection through a Linksys router that suddenly stopped working today.I thought this was a ipv6 issue sinced I enabled some of those settings to share a connection with my PS3.I have since disabled IPv6 in Firefox and through the grub. The RealTek adapter will not even show a connection through the network manager when connected.The onboard adapter will show a connection, give me a ip address and MAC but still will not load the internet. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both adapters through the network connections, as well as reinstalling Firefox to no avail.I've also tried using Open DNS servers.I cannot ping through the network tools either. Hard for me to paste a ifconfig since I'm on my laptop.I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 (not dual booting).I did some updates this morning but it worked fine for a little while after that, until I tried to connect to my PS3.

I could access the internet no problem.I then ran the install, and fully formatted my HDD (i have 1 HDD for the OS and another for storage)It crashed halfway thorough, so no problem, i just re-formatted the hardrive and installed.However, It didnt connect to the internet, I literally tried every single forum looking for the solution, including editing the Network interface file.After a bit of diggingfound my user privileges did not allow me to connect to ethernet, and randomly use audio devices.SO, no problem I checked the boxes, but it still wont connect to the ethernet now, and it was fine before, tried re-installing twice with full format, but still doesnt work.

My lan card is Realtek PCI and is present on system (i can read mac address and all settings). In connection manager I was try to set everything manually (IP, netmask, gateway and DNS) or leave automatic - without success. I am connected to router. I don't want to feed "log-hungry" people because how to resolve ubuntu lan problem can help me (not someone who will want to try). I cannot connect manually because there is no option when I click on network icon (I can just uncheck connection, but that's all). I can't even access to my router (from computer with Ubuntu, because I can access from another computer). All logs shows lan card proper. Windows XP on the same computer booted from another HDD works fine.

I am using a livebox with two wired PCs. One windows and one Ubuntu. The Ubuntu machine used to work fine on the internet. I have not used it for some time,t having got it running again there is no wired connection - Ubuntu searches but comes upd connection disconnected. I have checked the cable and that is fine I swapped the two cables over and it works fine on the Windows machine.The cable in the livebox shows two constant lights. The green light does not flash though - it is constantly on - I beleive this means the connection is good but there is no data flow

My ubuntu karma desktop is plugged into a wired connection that goes through a router and into my cable modem.Everything was working fine like it had been foseveral months yesterday morningSomething happened by the end of the day that has screwed up my wired networking. I plugged my laptop into the same cable thats plugged into my ubuntu, and the cat5 cable is live. Also when I plug said cable into the ubuntu box, the ethernet lights come on, or atleast a solid green one. Under network settings, there is only one wired network "Auto eth0", but it says "last used: never" which is strange since I've been using this for months. When I click edit the main settings are MTU automatic, ipv4 automatic DHCP, and ipv6 ignore.hat could the problem be? By chance did a karma update get released that broke the networking
Ever since my BT Hub 2 has updated a few weeks ago I'm unable to connect to the internet either wireless or wired. I duel boot on my netbook with xp and duel boot my desktop PC with windows 7. None of the Ubuntu�s are able to connect, I have no problems with the windows side of things.
Has anyone any ideas on how to fix this until BT decide to fix the problem. Preferably a step to step guide as I have limited experience with Ubuntu. I�m using Ubuntu 11.04.
I'm using Archlinux with NetworkManager to connect to the internet. When I'm in my room, I've an ethernet cable and still receive the wireless signal.Sometimes (like when we have a power cut, somebody is rebooting the router or simply something wrong with the provider), I'm disconnected during a few seconds, NetworkManager ask me again the password of the wireless (even if it remembers it), and then I'm ok.But when I'm not in front of my computer, while I haven't push the button "ok", it doesn't connect, even with the wired connection.That's not very normal in my opinion as there is supposed to have two different and independent connection. I ran sudo dhclient to try release and renew my IP, in case that was the problem. It released and renewed successfully, but still didn't connect to the Internet.
I tried to install Ubuntu 10.10 with the live CD and it kept freezing at creating ext4 file system for /. I finally got it installed using the alternate cd method. Now, my internet connection is not working. I am connected to a router with DHCP. When I boot up with windows, everything works fine. Ubuntu says that I'm connected with a wired connection but I can't access anything on the internet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust bought a laptop Packard Bell Easynote TJ61 with an internal sound card Conexant CX20561 (Hermosa) and successfully installed Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. Only problem was that the microphone (internal and external) was not working in all applications (soundrecorder, audacity, skype etc). Output audio (eg- Rythmbox) worked fine with ALSA and PulseAudio.
Tried a LOT of stuff, but the decisive move was to add: options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=laptop to the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and reboot.
I have been looking around the forums searching for similar problems, it seems not only me had this problem. About a month ago I did a regular update via Upd Manager. The next day - no wired connection.Still managable, since the local library has wireless. Now that won't work either.Just after I upgraded from Jaunty, I accidentally removed NetwMngr from the top right corner of the screen, but that should not have anything to do with how the program works, right? I now cannot reach NM, if I run it from the terminal, nothing happens visibly.

Heres my problem, I am unable to connect to the Internet even though my wired Ethernet connection says it is connected normally. The wierd thing about this is that I also have a wireless card in my desktop and when I connect through that I am able to connect to the Internet. I am connecting to a router that is functioning as a repeater to my main router/cable modem. I have tried to solve this myself but am having no luck. Ironically, earlier today suddenly my ethernet connection worked for a few minutes without me modifying anything.

I have two PCs one has Windows XP the other has Ubuntu 9.10 on it, the Windows PC has no problems getting on the Internet (I'm posting this with it) and getting an IP address from the wired router. The wired router I have is ONLY wired it does not have wireless at all, it is currently setup to hand out IP addresses between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.254.
The Ubunutu 9.10 PC worked great last night surfed all over the place for hours, then finally shut it down last night when I went to bed, shut down appeared to be normal like it always does when it shuts down, then this morning when I booted it up it gave error: "WIRED NETWORK - disconnected you are now offline".
