I just installed the ATI Catalyst drivers for my Radeon HD3200, and upon reboot my mouse has disappeared. I can still use it, it's just that there's no pointer on the screen. In addition, moving windows and loading/scrolling any window is very, very slow.I also noticed there's no entry for the mouse in xorg.confI have run aticonfig --intial and aticonfig --initial -f, to no avail.

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust install xubuntu today and I saw the beautiful "xubuntu" loading screen image when the computer boots up. I also see this screen when the laptop shuts down. However after installing the proprietary Catalyst drivers for my laptop, that boot image was replaced with just a plain text "XUBUNTU 11.04" and a few lines of text. It looks ugly everytime I boot the laptop.

Despite the fact that the installation wizard says the install completed, nothing changes once I reboot.I read somewhere that it was possible to install it via the "Hardware Drivers" utility. Is that true? If so, how can I go about doing that.At the moment I've got the "ATI fire gl" driver activated, but playing videos in fullscreen is painfully slow and I'm hoping AMD's proprietary driver can help.btw, My system can run pretty much any video (HD or not) in fullscreen under Windows 7. AFAICT, F14 does not have any formal support right now (no rpms, etc), and there are some pitfalls to using the ATI installer which I am sure have resulted in system re-installs, unhappy faces, and people stuck without a proper driver. This is because while the installer seems easy to use, it's unfriendly in so far as it does not check for pre-requisite software first, and when it craps outs, it doesn't tell you anything is wrong, but it will leave your system without a functioning X server. The first time I ran it, the GUI installer told me everything was complete and that all I needed to do was reboot! When I did, X would not work, and reinstalling the original xorg-ati driver, etc, did not fix it.....
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't remove my old 10.6 catalyst drivers. First I have removed both fglrx packages installed from ATI repo. Then I removed the xorg file, run mkinitrd and finally a reboot to start again with radeon drivers. (fglrx module is not running anymore). After that I run the 10.8 installation script, aticonfig --initial, mkinitrd and finally the reboot. Now the fglrx module is running but when I open de catalyst control center the information tab shows catalyst 10.6 drivers version (8.741 package version). Radeon HD2400 + openSUSE 11.3. Is there something else I should remove before installing catalyst drivers again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have installed VMWare server 2 on a windows XP host. Then I installed Suse 11.2 on the VMWare server. For the most part everything seems to be working Ok. However, the key board will type two letters with every keystroke. I have used the the accessibility options to force a hack fix (slow keys). Also, the host pointer looses synchronization with the guest. Simple fix, running it off the screen forces VM to synchronize.
I have managed to find work around solutions, but overall it is annoying and effects my productivity (IE Ctrl+C takes about 2 seconds to register!!!). I would like to find better solutions. So I am looking for advice on how I could address these issues, I need advice on two methods:
1) Assuming the problems are within Linux, I will need to tweak/change the drivers for my mouse and keyboard, how would I do that?
2) Assuming the problem is with VMWare Tools, I will need to tweak/update the tools. Now, I have noticed that Suse has their own custom setup for the tools. Thus the documentation for tweaking the tools doesn't apply (ie cannot find vmware-tools-config.pl). So how would I go about playing with that side of things?
3) Ruled out the problem being with VMWare itself. Whenever I run the system in command line mode, or in the graphical installer, the keyboard works fine. It is only within KDE that the problems arise. Thus it is either X-Windows/KDE or the VMWare tools layer that is causing the problem. So my next question, is there a way of turning components off and on to narrow in on what component is causing the problem?
I've installed my the ATI drivers as per this link: SDB:ATI drivers - openSUSEHowever when trying to reboot on normal mode the OS opens only tty1 (terminal 1?), you know, the one with green theme background. Fortunately I was able to reboot and log with failsafe. Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed openSUSE 11.4, and I really like it compared to other linux versions I've tried, but I find it requires a bit more linux know-how.
Being fairly new to linux, it has been quite the effort to learn but I started getting the hang of things via online support and such. Lately I've been having some problems.
I need linux to run a TCAD program, and it requires some openGL functionality and was giving me errors when I tried entering the software related modeling GUI.
Anyhow, I thought it had to do with my graphics drivers, so I decided to update them via ATI proprietary driver. After doing this, the system booted me into the console rather than X.
I tried numerous online guides on how to fix the issues, by running all sorts of boot commands (nomodset), and I read the graphics driver theory, as well as trouble shooting ATI graphics.
In the process, I also installed a radeonhd-xorg11-something through YAST, and that caused a black screen altogether upon boot. I managed to boot into failsafe with x, and from there I removed it via YAST, however this did not resolve issues. I also deleted any xorg.cionf files in hopes that the system will default back to the radeon driver.
As it stands right now, I can only boot into my system via failsafe mode. I'm keeping the unit off for now as it's probably tired from all the hard reboots I had to do . If someone can help me resolve this issue, I can turn it on and enter any commands required, such as finding out the graphics card, the kernel, the driver currently running, etc and I can post it here.

With ubuntu/linux mint everything was working perfectly.
At links the mouse pointer disappears within Internet Explorer 6.0. I just updated to the latest version of ubuntu which run like a charm. This problem however is annoying.I can press Ctrl to see the pointer but the fact is it should never disappear.
I do have problems with the graphics (Intel 4500) which sometimes at reproducable cases stops responding. (When trying to update graphically and having to answer a question in a child window to the main window). Is this problem a wine setting or something with x11 or compiz or ?
My mouse cursor is disappearing when it's not moving, or when I scroll a window with the middle wheel... Then when I move the mouse, the cursor is appearing!
This has started after few things...:
- old video card has died (ati hd4850)
- integrated motherboard video card used (ati hd4250) after solving the black screen (xorg, ati drivers... you know :s )
- since many weeks, computer has not been used before I've plugged a hd7970, solved 1 more time the black screen (.....)
And after many updates + this new video card = cursor is kidding :p
I've tried to change my cursor settings in the GUI config, nothing better.

Problem solved by renaming all cursor files...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed openSuSE 11.2 onto an HP Pavillion dv5-1040 (openSuSE as only operating system), first from net and then from CD. Initial installation took place around 20 December, and is still going on (!). After much back and forth (installing Atheros 928x drivers etc etc), I was able to get the wireless network up and running (perfectly).
The PC was set up such that I would be logged directly in at boot. For security reasons, I wanted to have a login with username and password, and I was able to get that going (unfortunately). The side-effect was that I am no longer able to access the network! I have been extensively searching the net find a solution, but without success. I strongly suspect that the solution is to set one or more parameters in a script, but what parameters in what script?
I installed debian 7 with lightdm and MATE 1.8 (from backports) on a new PC.
Since the first day the mose keeps disappearing. For example when I click on something, the mouse disappears and only comes back when I move it. Sometimes it already disappears when hovering over a button (especially annoying when it happens while you try to resize a window).
That problem did not happen for example in LXDE, which I installed just to test that.
I did install MATE 1.8 on several laptops/PCs so far, never hat that problem. Maybe it's because of quite recent hardware?

I have got an interesting issue here. After having ubuntu running for awhile I will visit a certain website that maybe running a script or flash or something and then all of a sudden the screen goes blank for a second and then everything comes back except the mouse pointer is no longer visible. I can logout and then back in and the pointer is back. I wasn't going to ask about it but it is getting annoying having to log out and than back in. I am running a ati card with the iopen source ati driver. It is a VisionTek 9250 pci card with 128 mb of ram. I wonder if it is a combo of this, Adobe Flash and Compiz.

Upon rebooting, all my graphics were very choppy (moving windows, scrolling etc). The sound is working though. I dont understand how fixing sound can mess with the graphics but hey it isnt working and thats what matters.I have an installer for the ATI drivers downloaded from ati.amd.com. when I had a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10 and installed these drivers everything worked 100% without any problems. And by spent the day updating to Fedora 15, I mean that like the last 3 updates I've tried with Fedora, they end up getting hosed and I was forced to rebuild using a live disk. That being said I was able to install a fresh instance of Fedora, as well as use leigh123linux's "F15,F14, F13 & F12 Nvidia driver guides" thread to install the necessary drivers on my machine. However after the last reboot, I'm stuck with a funky top screen.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried to install the ATI proprietary driver for an HD 5800 (Catalyst for Linux 64 bit, v. 10.8). The two main instruction sites are:

I chose the hard way method. I downloaded the driver. Restarted SuSE 11.3 in mode 3. And as SU followed the method above, including adding the zypper programmes (which found some already installed and which installed a whole lot more). When I then attempted to run the install (sh ./atidriver-install-10.8-x86.x86_64.run) and selected automatic mode. It completed 82% and stalled attempting to install "Postprocessing Kernel Module".
I pressed control c to kill the process and attempted to re-install using the manual mode and then using the build mode. In both instances, same outcome. When I rebooted, and entered my password, the desktop did not load but sent me back to the username/password page. I can't get back in. Does not matter as I have backed up my docs.
I decided to install the proprietary driver because the colours on the desktop corrupt after the 2nd boot following a clean install. i.e. on the initial boot the colours are fine. Second, this is the 3rd effort I have made to install the driver after a clean install of SuSE 11.3 and there is no change in outcome. So, my question: anyone any suggestion what is going on and how I can install the driver successfully? Or, do I not understand the new regime in SuSE 11.3 and should I not attempt to install a new driver.
I think i found out what was crashing my computer my Graphic card every time i start a game the computer goes down. I have a Ati Radeon 5570. Desktop Effects: Disabled System Info: 2d: fglrx 3d: ati I downloaded the Ati Drivers from the website after installing the Open Source not sure if that is causing a problem. Here are the steps i took. su - UNSUPPORTED="yes" sh ./ati-driver-installer-11-2-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE-autodetection zypper in fglrx* aticonfig --initial reboot It will crash whenever i start a game and randomly when i run ..... VLC etc.. Edit: Should i uninstall all opensource/ati and start over and if thats the case whats the best approach to this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo xorg was acting up, and I went into the Hardware Drivers menu to see if the driver had a problem. The driver was disabled, and could not be activated. I downloaded the new ATI driver. I uninstalled the old one, installed the new one, and ran the config step just like it specifies in the install instructions. Upon reboot, I got a blank screen instead of the login screen.I managed to drop back to the command line and uninstall the driver, so now I'm stuck in ubuntu with one monitor instead of 2.
I'm going to attempt to revert to the old ATI driver (which I still have in my home dir), but I wanted to be sure to get this into the forums before I ruined my GUI again.

Maybe I waited not long enough (5 minutes), but the screen was blank, then I gave up.Anyone has an explanation. I can always re-install everything, but then what went wrong with the nVidia package
