I switched from 11.2 to 11.4 yesterday. I noticed that the Appearance dialog has only three tabs instead of four tabs. The last tab "Interfaces" does not exist, in where I can select "Show Icon in Context Menu". But I do not know, how to show icons in context menu.

View 1 Replies View RelatedUpon a fresh installation of Ubuntu Natty, I have noticed only a couple of my nautilus-actions are actually showing up in the context menu. On further review, I noticed Nautilus-actions has changed a lot, and I cannot seem to figure out why most of my actions are not showing up. It seems no matter what I change, they will not show up. Some of the ones I cannot seem to get up are 'Wipe' commands and several of my homemade ones that worked flawlessly in past Ubuntu versions, such as Chown, Make Executable, Renamer, among others. Oddly, two of them work just fine, Search Here and Open Root Nautilus. I am not sure why these work, while the others do not, other than they are not used by selecting item(s)/folders. Also, I noticed there is a change with the parameters, in which now all of them use %F instead of %M. Does anybody know why that is, and/or does it really matter. FYI, I am using the classic version, not Unity as my desktop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Eclipse and am trying to create a launcher for it in the main menu. I finally figured out that a .desktop file needed to be made in /usr/share/applications, but I can't get the icon to show up. For the "Icon" field in the .desktop file,tried giving an absolute path to an icon in my home folder, and I also tried putting the icon in all the folders under /usr/share/icons and just putting "eclipse" (the icon file name) as the valueI had copied this last from some of the existing .desktop files that worked, but still had no luck. Does anyone know how to do this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen you go to System/Preferences/Appearance/ and the Appearance Preferences window displays the graphical representations of the themes, on most of them the gnome image-missing.png is displayed where the window menu icon (far-left on the titlebar) should be displayed. I never had this happen with Intrepid, but I do have this situation now on Jaunty. It's not just with new or added themes, it's the system's default installed themes as well. If you search around the net you'll see that this is a pretty common problem. Is a .png getting deleted, or is it something else in the process that is 'broken'?
Many of my apps display their proper menu window icons (like nautilus, ff3, etc.) - but others do not. I assume the ones that don't are trying to use a system or default icon rather than their own and that it is missing?Here are two screenshots I grabbed off of google to show you the difference.Missing...Not missing.
Suddenly the application launcher (the one that pops out when pressing the green chameleon button) has changed and I no longer get the formerly so pretty application launcher. Instead I now get a simple context menu style drop down menu.
I first noticed this after I updated PackageKit. is there a way to get this back to the previous applicationn launcher. When adding just the applet (without the button) it still looks the same, just the button doesn't pop it out anymore, as it chose to pop out a grey drop down instead.
This is on OpenSuse 11.4 KDE 4.5 and the latest desktop kernel
After much Google-ing and headaches I finally found out how to change the Gnome Menu Icon in F10. I love the Echo Icon theme, but I hate that Pac Man main menu icon. I had to get rid of it. Here's how to change that icon--and even to replace the standard "Infinity" icon with a much nicer version--or even switch that out for something totally different.
First, enable GUI root logon. This makes copying/pasting the icon to the protected icon folder much easier. Here's how [URL]When you have completed that, log out. When you get to the GDM login choose "Other" enter "root" in Username and then your root password. Now you're logged in as root.
Go to USR/Share/Pixmaps and there are a few nice Fedora icons. There's the "Infinity" logo but it's a much nicer, shinier version of the standard one. It's called "fedora-logo-sprite". But if you're feeling adventurous then try--as I did--"fedora-logo-small", which is the fedora name and a small "Infinity" logo (there's also the "Powered by Fedora" icon too). Copy one of those and paste it to Home or Desktop, or wherever you want. You just want to put it somewhere to stage. Now change the name to "start-here".
Now go to /USR/Share/Icons/(name of icon set using)/24x24/places/ and remove the "start-here" icon (send to Trash). Go to where you staged your replacement icon, copy it, go back to the /USR/Share/Icons/(icon set used)/24x24/places/ folder and paste it. Be sure to empty the Trash Can before you log off as Root User. Log off/ log back on as "you" and the icon should appear. I used the "Fedora (Infinity)" logo as Main Menu instead of the Menu Bar and it works great. The "Powered by Fedora" icon would look great too.

Some themes will include an icon for the Gnome Main Menu that you may or may not like including the default Fedora "infinity" Main Menu icon.Most launchers, whether on the desktop or on a Gnome panel, will permit you to change the individual icon. The Gnome Main Menu offers no such facility. Whereas there have been several challenging methods suggested to change that icon on a system-wide basis, there is an easy and straightforward way to do it on a user account basis.
Note: the method described herein applies only to the single Main Menu icon usually added to a Gnome panel in place of the custom Menu Bar that Fedora creates by default. This method does not work with the default custom Menu Bar. To add the Main Menu to a Gnome panel, right-click a blank area of a panel and select Add to Panel, then select "Main Menu" from the box that appears. Move the Main Menu icon to your desired location by right-clicking it and selecting Move. On my laptop, I have stable installed. The original install was about two years ago, and I've just been keeping up with all of the stable updates. It is now an up to date Lenny. Over the months and years I have added several new icon themes to Gnome. I have noticed over time that several of the icon themes' icons have turned up missing. As you can see, icon themes Amaranth, Crux and Dropline Etiquette are missing their respective theme icons. The icon themes work, when selected, but the icon theme icon in the "Customize Theme" window never appears. Several of the other icon themes are the same. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the icon theme packs, but that doesn't fix it. I also have a desktop system of Debian stable with some of the same icon themes as on the laptop, but it does not have this problem. However, it is a much newer installation.
I've been searching and searching, trying to find a way to remove the little arrow next to the gnome main menu icon.Found a way by editing gnome-panel/panel-menu-button.c <--- however I cannot locate this in Fedora 12... help me out here, this has been nagging me for quite some time now.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an old p3 compqa desktop install 10.04.2 lts on it. install went ok. set to autologin. when it does so, gnome starts but there is no bottom or top menu bar. keyboard shortbut for terminal works and keyboard shortcut alt-f1 for running programs works but i would like to get the top menu bar or at least know a shortbut to get to network preference because i can't seem to get the machine configured for net access...

When I try to open some file, including directories, "Open with..." window appears.
I have a recent install of squeeze. Beside applications from the squeeze repos, I have installed a few applications from their own deb files / repositories, such as Skype, Google-Chrome (not the chromium in the squeeze repos), Opera and Teamviewer.
All those placed their menu entries in the gnome menu, however periodically, at a new login, the Google-Chrome and Teamviewer menu items are missing. The applications are still there, but they dont show anymore in the menus. Only way to get them back I found so far is to reinstall the application.
F13 just installed for me on a server back in the states for me. I VNC into it to setup my personal website. The GNOME menu listings do not have the tool I am familiar with that tells me which process are running, allows me to stop and start them, and to install them I believe if they are on the machine. I can see that MYSQL are on the machine with the Add/Remove tool. I also see myphpAdmin. I need to get both of these up and running. I should be able to do this with out going back to 1980's terminal commands right?

I've just finished an upgrade from debian lenny to squeeze.But when I tried to log into my Gnome session the menu and the taskbar was missing and when i click on change desktop preferences nothing happen and i m not able to run anny command as well (alt+f2). I am using openSUSE KDE 4.
Up until an hour ago, my openSUSE 11.0 KDE 3.x Konqueror had the usual Ark archive extraction options on the context menu. An hour ago, during an extraction operation, Ark and/or KWin crashed and I had to log back in.
Now the Ark extraction options are no longer on the menu. All I have is the Ark "Extract To..." option.
What happened and how can I fix it? And yes, I have all the required integration plugins, etc., the thing was working fine for the last two years. Now it's broken. Where is the config file or lock file or whatever that I need to find to fix this.
