OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Notification Missing?

Jun 6, 2011

I booted up the live cd for openSUSE 11.4 and to my surprise the wifi worked with my d-link usb adapter. So I decided to install to the hard drive sinse everything else worked too. After installation and after the auto-configuration is done I am logged in. But the problem is now the wifi icon in the notification area is gone and I cannot connect to anything. I found this weird knowing the icon was there running on the live cd and that I also was able to connect to my home wireless on it as well.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Broadcom 4328 Wifi Card Missing From System - Lspci

Mar 27, 2011

I recently installed suse 11.4 x64 onto my hp tx2000 tablet. everything has been working great including the wifi card. It's a broadcom 4328 a/b/g/n/bluetooth card and it was using the broadcom-wl driver. Earlier today i plugged in an usb wifi adapter to test whether it worked on suse plug and play. Well after plugging in and using this wireless adapter, my internal wifi card is no longer visible to the system. I've tried lspci and its not displayed. I booted into a different suse install and it wont work there. My bios does not seem to have a disable feature and the killswitch is in the correct position. The bluetooth is working but the wifi is not. In lspci i used to see "hp integrated (wireless+bluetooth)" and "broadcom 4328..." but now only the former.

Ubuntu :: Can't Move Wireless Icon In Notification Area

Nov 14, 2010

The icons in the notification area became out of order when I switched displays (laptop / external display). I was able to rearrange all of them by right-click > Unlock from panel > Move except for the wireless icon which doesn't have a "Lock to panel" option when I right click it. Is there a way to move it back to the left of the date?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: 11.3 - Can't Set Up Wireless / Wireless Card Is Not Being Used?

Want to eventually make the switch over but figure taking it slow and learning on an old laptop would be best.

I went through the installer and everything looks great so far except I can't for the life of me seem to be able to get the wireless working. I tried everything a windows newb like me could think of ... it looks like to me the wireless card is not being used since it can't detect anything? I read some threads and here are the results of common terminal stuff that most people say to do:

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Painfully Slow Wireless Throughput On Atheros AR5001 Card

Aug 12, 2010

I have a Acer Revo R3610 nettop on which I installed oS11.3. It has an Atheros AR5001 wireless network adaptor.I'm getting very bad latency and throughput on with this card. In comparison my Thinkpad with Intel card achieves at least 10 times the throughput from the same location. Also when I boot my wifi will come up authenticate and then a few seconds later disconnect and reconnect. I've tried updating the kernel to 2.6.35 as one of the fixes was to improve the performance of the ath5k driver. I'm using wpa2 authentication.

Here are some details:

Code:

mediacentre:~ # /sbin/lspci -nnk
00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Host Bridge [10de:0a82] (rev b1)
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0222]

[code]....

Is there anything else I paste that will help determine the cause of the bad throughput. Browsing the web or copying files across the network is bordering unusable.

I have updated everything since the installation through a wired connection, that didn't help. I have read the stickies, but to be honest, I'm so new to this stuff I'm kinda lost. So my wireless network has a WEP encryption and I have entered that password as a 64 HEX Key in the Wireless Manager widget. It connects to the network and says is labeled as active, however there is still the yellow exclamation shield next to the connection. Firefox and other apps don't have access to the internet.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Is Giving BSOD (Black Screen Of Doom)

Nov 3, 2010

i'm running 11.3 kde 4.4, with a Broadcom 4318. since installing 11.3 a few days ago, whenever i'm connected via wireless, one of two things always happen: when trying to play video (hulu, ....., etc.) in firefox, within a minute or so i will get the BSOD--that is, my screen will go black, and my cap/num lock lights will flash on and off. also, when regularly browsing the internet...not long after opening firefox, it will stop working like i have no connection, and then i will get a frozen screen and system within a minute or two after seeing a variation of this communication message:

"Message from syslogd@sbkra at Nov 2 21:09:53 kernel: [956.784417] process irq/11-b43 (pid: 1974, ti=debee000 task=dd291170 task.ti=debee000 Message from syslogd@sbkra at Nov 2 21:09:53 kernel: [956.784424] Stack: Message from syslog@sbkra at Nov 2 21:09:53 kernel: [956.784458] Call Trace: "a couple times, i've gotten this message and the following freeze when running video in firefox.

strangely, i have no problems running streaming audio through smplayer. and i have no problems playing saved video files through smplayer. and i have absolutely no problems whatsoever browsing or playing online video while connected via ethernet.

i've also searched through the various forum sections to try to address the issue, but nothing i've tried has worked. nor has anyone had a problem identical or even similar to this. btw...in relation to "broadcom", yast tells me that i have "b43-firmware" and "b43-fwcutter" installed. nothing else. i do not have "ndiswrapper" installed, because this gave me problems in 11.2, and this problem mentioned here was happening in 11.3 before i uninstalled "ndiswrapper". and the repos i have are: Packman, OSS, Non-OSS, and Update.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Card Dormant Until Wired Connection Detected?

Feb 2, 2011

I have searched and have not found anything specific to my issue. I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome. Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I don't know if that has anything to do with the boot sequence. Using the <modprobe ndiswrapper> command as root does nothing permanant

I am running openSUSE 11.3 updated with all the latest patches and I cannot connect to my wireless router. I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.

I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. OpenSUSE Wireless :: Device Is An Integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
