I'm using Amarok 2.3.2 on openSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4r3. How can I enable DAAP sharing of my Music library so that I'm able to access it in Rhythmbox from my Linux Mint 9 desktop?
View 1 RepliesI downloaded Rhythmbox from the repositories but found that DAAP sharing is missing (it is not in the plugin list). I've searched around a bit and it's supposed to be in there standard. Does anyone know where I can find this plugin and how to add it?

Has anyone gotten DAAP sharing to work between Itunes 9 and Banshee? I have a Windows Vista, Mac OS X, and Fedora 12 box setup on my network. Both Mac and Visa have itunes 9 running on them, and when opening Banshee the Itunes Library shows under shared music but when I select it; I get the below error:
Unable to connect to music share
* The provided login credentials are invalid (I removed the share password, same issue)
*The login process was canceled
*Too many users are connected (not the case)
* The music is hosted by itunes 7 (hosted by itunes 9)
Is the Banshee DAAP plugin supported with Itunes 9? Are there any work arounds?
I recently got an iPod touch 2nd gen. I plugged it in and it immediately showed up in Rhythmbox. I dragged and dropped music files to the iPod icon listed under devices on the left hand pane. The files ARE on the iPod, I can confirm by finding them on the device in Nautilus. The problem is, they do not show up in the music library on the actual iPod. Did I miss something, or is there a step I must take to get them to show up in the iPod's music library so I can play them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been building my digital music collection for some time and used to house it on a local drive with no quality issues. A while back I built myself a file server using ubuntu and mdadm in a raid1 configuration to protect against potential drive failure. I link my iTunes library to the music files via a samba share and everything works great on the surface. I've started to notice that random songs are becoming corrupted with pops clicks and silent pauses. I'll even re-download an album and notice that it's corrupted a few weeks later. Now I'm at a loss to what is causing this issue; I ignored it at first but it seems to be getting worse and more widespread as time goes on.
Do you think this could be caused by mdadm? It reports that all is fine via 'cat /process/mdstat' but I wouldn't know where to look or what to look for if there were syncing issues. The other possibility is that I have iTunes set to keep my music folder organized for me, but I've never heard of it actually corrupting the files it shuffles around. The bottom line is that my library is getting crappier as time goes on and I cannot stand for that!
I just signed up for a 30 day trial of Ubuntu One mobile. I have music all over the place and thought that this would help me sync it on my phone. I shared my Music folder on my laptop, but all it was upload the file structure (not the music) to the server. How do I get Ubuntu Music to sync my existing collection?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have several devices (server, tower, notebook, android phone). I want to have my music library in sync on all of them. So what I thought of was a revision control system that just takes care of CRUD actions (or rather CRD). Maybe it could keep track of the files using their initial name and tracking any renaming or deletion. All popular software I know (git, svn, cvs, ...) is out of question because they save too much overhead (they diff the binary files).
Streaming doesn't work either for me because I don't always have an internet connection. Synchronizing the music using tools like unison is very inefficient too because I write metadata to the files so their hashsum, timestamp and size change constantly. If there is a diff or sync tool that ignores minor changes in size and ignores timestamp and permissions and so on, it would maybe be fine but I don't know one.
I haven't been able to find it yet, but I may just be overlooking it in the programs I've tried. What I want, is to have a lossless music library on my desktop. Be able to browse this music library, select certain songs, and convert them to a mobile friendly format as I push them onto my phone for playback. Such as a flac to mp3/aac conversion while it pushes them onto the phone. Is there a program that does this? The last time I was able to do this, was in Windows using J River Studios Media Center, and it did this quite well.

I figure I might as well keep XP for a few games and for syncing my iPod nano with iTunes.I want to set up my computer so that my music library on my windows partition will be accessible to Banshee (or perhaps another program) so that I can listen to my tunes in Linux. However, I want to make it so that Banshee can't actually edit my files/tags (I want to leave iTunes in charge of that). I just want it to be able to play the mp3s and aac's (none of my files are in DRM format luckily). So I guess what I am asking, is can I make my iTunes folder on the Windows partition READ-ONLY to the Linux OS maybe?

I allow uploads from all employees to the media folder on the server. As you can imagine, it's going to get a bit messy in there with multiple spellings of artist and album names for directory names, duplicate files, and incorrect filenames and tags. I was hoping I could find a script that I could run daily as a cron job to clean up the media drive. I would like to maintain a path similar to: /mnt/music/Artist/Album/Song.file

The drive mounts successfully in Linux and I can manually play tracks from it, but I don't seem to be able to point Rhythmbox or Banshee to the drive or to folders on the driveto add them to their libraries. Is there any way to do this? Otherwise I'll have to begin the very long process of juggling files between hard drives until I have enough free space to format one of them
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I have about 50GB of music in the Music library. I can connect from, play to, and download music to my DLNA enabled phone (Samsung Galaxy S), everything works fine.
When I start Rhythmbox on my laptop (Ubuntu 10.10), it sees my PC (appears under "Shared" in the left panel), but the tracks won't show on the list, it seems as if it fails to retreive the list of media. No matter how long I wait, nothing happens, the tracklist remains empty forever.
I have installed the "coherence" plugin from the Software Center.
I'll attach the console output rhythmbox generates when starting up,
Sidenote: it works the other way around, I can "Play to..." Rhythmbox from Windows Media Player.

We have a collection of music for the entire family. Can each user's Music folder point (for lack of a better word) to the same physical directory? Can I do this with mounts, or is there a better way?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with streaming media (music and movies), well just transfer speeds period, from my Windows Vista desktop PC and my Ubuntu laptop On my Windows PC I have two folders shared: Music and Movies. I also have Media sharing enabled on my Windows PC so that I can stream my music and movies to my Xbox360 and playstation 3. My game consoles have no issues at all with playback speed and quality. My laptop is a dual boot with Windows and Ubuntu.
Streaming to my laptop under Windows is fine. Playback is great and copying files to and from my network shares(Music and Movies folders) is fast. However, under Ubuntu, I've mounted an SMB share to the Windows computer to each folder. When I browse to an MP3 song in VLC, I cannot even listen to it! It'll constantly buffer every few seconds. Forget about trying to watch a movie in VLC either! XBMC and Boxee are useless because they NEVER finish scanning the network folders to even add my content - let alone try to stream them.
Trying to copy 89MB (an album worth of MP3s) from the Windows server to Ubuntu was going to take 8hours! Something is definitely wrong here and I just can't figure it out. Should I be connecting to Windows using some other networking method besides SMB? My network is setup with my Windows Desktop connected via 100MB ethernet to a wireless router. The Router is dual broadcasting in G and N modes. I have excellent connection strength and full network rate (54MB for G) on my laptop. Again, networking is fine when using Windows on the laptop.
I will be getting an older PC back in the near future. It is a Pentium 3 with 256 MB RAM and 40 GB HDD. I would like to use it as a media file sharing PC and a jukebox for my living room stereo. I can stream music to my living room using my Linksys WMB54G, unfortunately it only natively supports Windows XP. Does anyone have experience connecting a WMB54G to Linux, particularly a light-weight distro?

Because when I cloning computers with Clonezilla it is matter which type of drive connected to cloned computer. So I must firstly clone computers with IDE drives, after that with SATA drives. If all drives would detected as /dev/sda I would can clone all computers at once! Is there simple way to enable new libata library without recompiling kernel? Is there already compiled kernels with this feature?

In the mpd configuration file I have to point to the directory in which the music is.
How do I do that? Is it something to do with mount?
I did a fresh install of Lucid alongside Vista on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804. When I went into "Personal File Sharing" under System > Preferences, it said that the necessary packages were not installed. Using the documentation at this link: [URL] I went into a terminal, opened shares-admin, and as promised it told me that I didn't have the right software installed, and allowed me to check both NFS and SMB to install. I did so, installed, and at the end, it said everything was successful.
After exiting the dialog, the window asking me to install NFS/SMB appeared again. I selected to install, it disappeared, and then reappeared. It did this repeatedly, until I decided to close it out. I then went back to the guide, and went to add a new share. But the drop down box would not allow me to choose Windows share, only Unix (NFS). How do I enable Windows File sharing? I have used Ubuntu in the past and have got it to share with Windows computers flawlessly. Now, it appears that this essential (for me) functionality is broken.
I have Fedora 10 with 2 nic's and have used the firewall tool, network manager, etc.,then disabled the firewall front end and wrote my own iptables rules but can not even enable eth1 to use it. Tried 2 different common cards (like a network everywhere 10/100) Service network restart says eth1 not there.
Right now Ive:
eth0 connects direct to internet via my cable ISP.eth1 I've set as 192.168.1.1, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway I wasn't sure but I set as my IP on eth0 isp supplied. DNS wasn't sure, just left blank.
But I can't even enable eth1 to test those settings.
then with gui firewall crap disabled I wrote my own iptables ruleset: (kernel flagged for ip forwarding)
with all chain policies set to allow.

I allowed ports 3689 and 5353 for incoming and outgoing traffic in firestarter but my other machines wont detect a DAAP share. They do see them when I turn off firestarter. I'm even more confused when I see that I have a local connection using port 56690 when I turn off firestarter and monitor the log. It seems that DAAP is using 56690 but when I allow it for incoming/outgoing it still doesnt pick up my DAAP shares.
Is there a way I could fix this? I mean, I could run without a firewall but...idk if thats such a good idea :/

Same with DAAP I'm using rhythmbox to both broadcast and listen to the DAAP, and the rhythmbox on the remote computer cant connect here either. ssh and VNC are working on the other computer as well, I can connect to other computers using ssh on both computers, and I can VNC over to the other computer without any problems, its the traffic going myway that seems to be hitting a roadblock. is it possible that since I installed a different system (was Ubuntu Natty before, and I was using all three services before I installed Fedora), I need to do something on my remote computer so that this won't crop up?
If I do System-Preferences-Personal File Sharing it tells me that I can't enable sharing over the network because "the required packages are not installed on your system". It doesn't tell me WHAT packages I need to install!

This is more of a question for developers of rhythmbox DAAP support. I am using rhythmbox to remotely access music exported by mt-daapd server. It works fine. But it does not seem to close connections properly. This problem is very severe when you press "prev" button a few times. How to reproduce (this just one way):
1) Start playing a few songs (playlist or an album).
2) press "next" button a few times
3) then press "prev" a few times.
The playback might even pause for many seconds if you are not a LAN. Now check connections opened by Rhythmbox.. (netstat -n | grep 3689 on client). You will notice a lot of connections, and they stay for a very long time.. multiple hours. Let me know if anyone needs more info.
I would like to enable personal file sharing so I can access my laptop (hp Mini laptop w/ ubuntu) from my mac mini (OSX 10.4.11), but the message I get in PFS dialogue box is "This feature cannot be enabled because the required packages are not installed on your system".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a small problem with Banshee that I need some help with, if possible. I'm currently using the latest version of Ubuntu 11.04 and it's up to date. The problem i'm having is with Banshee playing music files over my DAAP share. My DAAP server is running Firefly (mt-daapd), and Banshee can see the server and shares just fine. It loads the song list from the server, but when I select a song to play it just sits there. Rhythmbox works just fine, sees the share and plays the songs ok (which is what i've fallen back to for the moment), so I know it's not a hardware or software problem from the sound "system".
Other features of Banshee play just fine, including internet radio stations, internet archives, and importing songs from the server (which makes the song local instead of networked from a single source). Ok, so streaming from the DAAP share isn't working; here's the output from the terninal I started Banshee from:
