OpenSUSE Hardware :: No Sound Input From My Microphone

Jun 17, 2011

I have no sound input from my microphone. With a fresh install of 11.4/gnome desktop it was working.

Then all I did was installing the multimedia support from the script in the opensuse guide (which interestingly includes some files for k3b so I suspect there is a conflict of libraries now that some kde libs have been installed) and a full system update. After that, my mic has stopped working.

If it helps at all, the output of the ALSA Information Script at my machine is hosted at: [url]

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Microphone Is (input Sound) Not Working

Jan 4, 2010

I have had trouble with my sound since installing. I have been able to get output sounds to work by setting my sound output to:Internal Audio Digital Stereo (IEC95 instead of:However, my microphone does not work. I know it was working earlier on but I can't figure out what the settings were at that time. Are there any ideas on what I can try to get the input and output audio working correctly?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Microphone / Sound Input Not Working

Jan 21, 2011

I've tried to look for a solution for a few days now, and haven't had any results so far. I really hope you can help me so I can get to talk with my girlfriend.I'm running Lubuntu with 10.04 LTS, and alsa version 1.0.23 on Samsung NC10.Hardware works, soundcard is recognized by the OS, modules are loaded, alsamixer volume up and unmuted, sound output is ok, arecord or sound recorder don't get input.

- The microphone hardware works. Having the volumes up I hear the noise from the speakers when tapping the microphone.
- Soundcard is recognized by OS (and like I said, music and all other sound output is perfectly fine)

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Microphone Config With Onboard Sound?

Apr 12, 2011

I have the MCP55 HD Audio on board. Is there a way to configure the mic to mono, 16 bit with 16000Hz sampling as a system input. The signal will be read by the installed program pocketsphinx_continuous.

This is not to make recordings. I can make these settings in KRecord/KDE3. This is for the system input. The mic works with the program and KRecord.

Or must a compatible sound card be installed?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: No Input Sound With Mic / Get That?

Jan 14, 2011

I have the following problem. As trying to record with an analog microphone through arecord, audacity, gnome-sound-recorder i can get no sound captured. Then i've tried skype where the volume is too low and the sound is distorted.

Until i was using an usb webcam with mic integrated i had no problem using skype but with a simple usb mic i can't get sound recorded. I've tested 3 different mic in a windows os and in opensuse 11.3 on the same pc with a double partition. All of them are working fine with win but not with opensuse.

Bellow i' m providing some info as requested in a similar post from oldcpu

11.3 x86-64 & vt1828s - No sound from mic or line in code...

i've tried to upload to the alsa site but it gave me only a .txt output therefore, i've put it on pastebin.

Sound output works without problems. The only problem is the mic input.
When the volume of the mic is at 100% i can here sound from the speakers, what should mean that the mic is working, but it's not capturing anything. I've checked the mixers from yast>harware>sound and seem to be all up as in alsamixer in terminal and kmix.

I'd like to add that i'm using opensuse 11.3 with kde 4.5.5 updated today through the stable repositories and to have even updated alsa, as proposed always from oldcpu in the same post mentioned in the beginning of this post, from the following site and for my specific kernel.

Ubuntu :: Very Low Microphone Input In Lucid?

May 16, 2010

Having setup lucid lynx, I am struggling with the sound setup. Output is fine, but I can barely hear myself in Skype, after a make a test call, to listen to my own voice. The sound preferences dialog offers multiple device settings to configure, with most offering 3 mic inputs. I've maximized all of them, and yet still no change. I have to make lots of Skype calls every day. This is a Dell xps m1530 laptop.

Software :: Microphone Input Is Vanished

Aug 1, 2010

The internal microphone never worked, but external worked fine through the input jack with all programs, including Skype. Then, I noticed that the mixer no longer had a microphone control (including in alsamixer). No recording program would work any more, BUT - Skype still worked! OK, so the only program that needs sound input that I use is Skype, so I just left it that way. But now I downloaded a newer version of Skype, and ran it, and my microphone was dead. So I went back to the old version, which used to work fine, and the mic is dead in that too. To make sure it wasn't a setting, I moved the whole .Skype directory out of the way. Still no sound at all from the mic. when I did the Skype test call.

The hardware must be OK, as I am a heavy Skype user and had no problems. Simply running the newer version killed it instantly, and i cannot get it working again. I don't understand why the microphone input control is no longer available. No mixer program can see it. It used to be there, but then there it was, gone!

Ubuntu :: Sound: Mic Doesn't Work - Audio Input Level Graphically Shown In Sound Preferences Shows No Fluctuations In Sound

Aug 3, 2010

I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.

Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.

Hardware :: Microphone Input Fails For IPod / What To Do?

Feb 18, 2011

I'm running Fedora 14 and have installed a Creative Audigy SB0790 card which runs off the CA0106 driver. The sound output is just fine when playing internal sources like sound files and CD's. However, when I plug my iPod into the microphone port, I get no output from the card. I can see that the signal is getting in as pavcontrol, gnome-volume-control, and gstreamer-properties all show activity. In fact, I can hear the signal when running gstreamer-properties, but not after I close it. Is there some special setting or app needed to play music through the mike port?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Cannot Capture Sound From Line In Input In 11.4 (no Pulseadio)?

May 18, 2011

I have been searching for an answer through most of the recent posts about sound issues but have not been able to find a solution. I am currently unable to capture sound from the "Line" input on my sound card. I do have sound and is working correctly for all applications and I do have P/A disabled (I'm not a huge fan of the sound quality with P/A enabled). I have checked and re-checked many settings but to no avail have not been able to capture sound. I'm sure I may be missing something or have not done something in order for this to work. I was using openSUSE 11.4 on a different pc and had no problems, unfortunately this is a different pc with a different sound card which is on-board so I am not entirely familiar with it yet.

It is a C-media CMI9880 which shows up as a Intel HDA (ICH6) and appears to be configured correctly.

Debian Multimedia :: No Microphone Recording But Input Does Works In Some Way

Aug 12, 2011

For some time, my microphone input doesn't reach the recording application, but instead goes directly to the loudspeaker. If I make a sound in the microphone, it will go to the loudspeakers, and Audacity or Skype will not "hear" anything (and of course, with this set-up, there's a constant noise in the loudspeaker, coming from the microphone). This problem goes away if I install PulseAudio. So obviously, there's nothing broken with either of ALSA or hardware, only some misconfiguration somewhere, and PulseAudio can make a sense of the mess. Playing with all sorts of configurations in Alsamixer didn't help.

Unfortunately, I don't want PulseAudio, because it causes output problems which are a bit too subtle for me to describe coherently here. So I'd rather fix ALSA than Pulse. Please direct me into how to investigate this. The OS is Debian Unstable, the audio card is an integrated Intel ALC1200.

When I do it with the MIDI-to-USB connector in windows and ubuntu, whenever I press a key, I get what is programmed into LMMS through connecting in a channel. I can't get the piano or guitar or whatever sound that the keyboard is making into the computer. I can upload some video to show what I'm talking about with the aux connector.

General :: Getting Sound To Application From Sound Card Line-in/microphone?

May 7, 2010

I'm trying to use an application (e.g., mplayer) to play sound that comes in my sound card (via the mic jack). (What I'm really trying to do is sync a sports broadcast by putting a delay on AM audio, as described here. I'm stuck at the part where it says "this shouldn't be too difficult".) I've seen some hints that there might be code-heavy solutions using LADSPA or some JACK SDK, but there's just gotta be a simpler way. I'm hoping for something like

Code:

mplayer -delay -7 - < /dev/mic

but I'm darned if I can find it. I'm sure there are plenty of other sports fans who would find this useful for syncing radio with the digital TV feed...

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To "listen" To A Microphone Input

Jun 10, 2010

I have a vinyl turntable. The only output it has are some RCA cables. I've connevted these to other RCA cables, so now, I can put it into one of the audio in jacks on my computer. It's just a standard microphone plug. In Windows, there was an option that would let me listen to the input, and this would be the only way I could listen to my vinyls. In kubuntu, I can't find any way to do so. I don't want to have to boot into Windows 7 every time I want to listen to my vinyls, so is there any way I can get around this?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Crashes When Using Microphone?

May 28, 2010

I use Ubuntu 10.04 but I had this problem in 9.10 too.

I have a problem regarding my sound preferences. I have a microphone and I want to use it to make calls. The problem is that when I speak into the microphone when a program like Skype is used, my sound suddenly crashes(The microphone won't take any input nor will I hear any sound from the speakers if I play a video or music. This gets fixed if I restart the computer). This also happens if I go to Sound preferences → Input or Output and edit something there.

If I don't make any of the above, the sound works just fine as I can listen to music and play videos.

I don't know much about computer hardware but here is some info about my sound card:

Code:
VIA Technologies, Inc. VT1708/A[Azalia HDAC] (VIA High Definifion Audio Controller) (rev 10)

Subsystem: Biostar Microtech Int'l Corp Device 820f

Slackware :: Using Mumble 1.2.2 - No Sound And Microphone Not Working

Mar 28, 2011

I used Mumble 1.2.2 for a while on my Slackware 13.1 system without any problems. After some time (before 1.2.3 was released) it suddenly stopped working. A few days ago, I wiped my disk and re-installed Slackware 13.1. Compiling 1.2.3 worked. Running it just stopped with a "FUTEX"-Error. I searched the source code for futex (with "-i" parameter) and didn't found anything. There were matches in the compiled object files. So, it's probably something with Qt.

Then I compiled Mumble 1.2.2 and run it. Worked. But it didn't find my microphone. I can hear everybody else but I cannot talk. I tried every device but there is no sound. If I activate the microphone in alsaconfig I can hear myself, so the microphone seems to work. A few minutes ago, I compiled Mumble 1.2.3. You know what? It runs without any "FUTEX_WAIT" error. But, the microphone does not work.
