I'm trying to monitor the temps of /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc in Conky (/dev/sda is an SSD so not necessary, or even possible). I have HDDtemp running as a daemon, and returning correct temps for both drives when run from konsole. Output:

I'm using Ubuntu Netbook Edition on my family's 4 netbooks. Sadly (and a big mistake in my opinion?), I can't add a temp monitoring applet to my panel, but that's not really the point. I am needing a way to monitor my computer temps that includes a graph (kinda like a CPU usage monitoring graph).
I really need this ability because I have another regular laptop that overheats at times and I would like to see the history without using a script to do it via text and logging.
I'm thinking of a web based app that will monitor temps and values fed in from a data acquisition device but am seeking advice on what to use to produce the web page would php be powerful enough? The app will also have to have access to a shell for scripting, I know thats a security risk but it will not be in an exposed env. The web page will have a series of lcd readouts displaying the aquired data refresh rates will probably be around 5 seconds along with control buttons to turn on and off values. Storing data in a mysql database for statistical reports would be needed eventually. Ubuntu 9.10 will be the os. Is python easily integrated into apache?

When I do the 'sensors' command in Terminal, this is what shows up:

what I can use in Ubuntu for monitoring CPU core temps, CPU and memory speed and such, used CPU-Z, prime, HD tune up and and the like when OC'ing and UC'ing my Windows PC's but what Ubuntu equivalents are there?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Dell Insp. 1545 2.16 GHZ 3GB RAM I have the following problem that I don't have on Vista. Problems:
1. Fan is running almost constantly
2. Cpu temps reaching 69C, stable at 54C
3. Temps spike especially with Java and npviewer.bin (in both FF/CHROME)
Ex. In system monitor, npviewer and Java take up about 90%, and while running, the CPUs are at 1. 80% 2. 90%. However, even when these processes are killed, basic activity (FF, file browsing etc) cpu% stay near 50/70, and fan stays on. Question: any suggestions? I heard restricted drivers could cause this problem. Any thoughts?
Does anyone know if it's possible to grab the temperatures from an ATI card using the open source radeon driver (not fglrx/catalyst).
I must say that the radeon driver has come a long way and works wonderfully under Lucid for my needs. I'm just a bit worried about the lack of PM support and how high my temps might be. I would prefer some way to keep an eye on things
This is a triple-monitor setup with two video cards, where the mouse pointer gets "stuck" if it tries to cross from one video card to the next one. It worked correctly in openSUSE 11.2 and doesn't work in openSUSE 11.3 with the same xorg.conf. This is a 64-bit openSUSE 11.3 with xorg 7.5-11.3 (the openSUSE prepackaged version). I've already tried NVidia drivers 256.53-16.1 (the openSUSE NVidia repository version) and 260.19.12 (the latest off of the NVidia website).
This is the same xorg.conf that I used successfully in openSUSE 11.2. I tried a new automatically generated xorg.conf using nvidia-settings and it had the same problem. This forum won't let me upload the relevant files, but here: [URL] is a tar-ball with my xorg.conf, Xorg.*.log, /var/log/messages, and the NVidia debugging output.
just setup suse 11.3 , put on the Nvidia 19.29-22.1 drivers via yast , no kms is set in inetd , nomodeset on grub boot line etc... Even tried installing the driver " the hard way " dual monitors come up, setup xinerama to "Extend" my desktop , and the main monitor ( right side ) is good, visually the left monitor (2ndary) is good.. but whenever I move my mouse over to the left screen the mouse pointer dissapears, flickers along the right hand border of that screen... and if i move the cursor back to the original screen i have to really fight to get it back to the main screen....Copy of my xorg.conf , still very basic...

I have just installed Os 11.3, it is my first time to try Linux. Install went fine have Dual Boot Win7 and openSuse 11.3 KDE I have a 26" TFT TV as Monitor 1 DVI and Dell 16" as Monitor 2 VGA all working fine . Autoconfig started and TV display vanished, install finished and went into display settings to check problem and for some reason it is saying both displays are on my 16" Dell. I will Add Screen Shot to show problem. wanted to switch to Linux for years but never had the guts, i was hoping to learn Linux with this distro and when have a grip on it drop windows and use Linux as Primary.

im having problems running this conky script, i've done what the author said which is copy the files to the home directory, now when i run the files i get the error below, i have checked to see if i have the cairo engine installed and it's installed fine, i am not sure where the problem stands.

Once finished I decided to move the box to far corner and work with it via putty and vnc. But then problems with vnc started. Whenever I tried to connect via vnc I got background screen with cross cursor and then it stuck, no login screen. I spent a lot of time trying to fix it. I red many forums and this one in partucular : VNC is not working - openSUSE Forums Nothing helped. I have noticed that vnc doesn't work if monitor not physically connected to the box.
Once monitor connected, even if monitor is not powered up, vnc resumed to work correctly. GNOME system monitor is constantly freezing and not responding when i click on first tab 'System' Do somebody knows some workarounds for this issue? From what I understand 11.3 is out sometime next month and KDE 4.4.4 is the KDE environment that will be released with that iteration of SUSe.
About a month ago I read about a number of problems with multiple monitor support under 4.4.4. Primarily these issues seemed to be with no more than 2 monitors. The SUSe 11.2 machine here uses KDE 4.3 runs three monitors (Intel core quad, pair of NVidia PCIe graphics cards). I was wondering whether any of the bugs with this type of configuration have been resolved. From what I understood 4.4.4 worked with problems using Twinview but I was not able to find anything that addressed the configuration of having separate X Screens.
